Chapter 319
AELIANA
Kingston doesn’t come home until it’s late in the evening, it’s dark, and he doesn’t answer anyone’s calls. My heart leaps into my throat when he enters the room, the fabric of his clothes soiled with blood.
I move toward him without thinking, my legs carrying me his way on pure instinct. However, the moment I get close, he takes a step back, pushing Maddox in front of him. That’s who catches me. “Kingston.” My mouth falls open, pulling away from Maddox.
He doesn’t look at me, his eyes are fixed somewhere over my shoulder. “Rowan, please keep her away.” He says, his voice hoarse and cracking. “Don’t let her come near me right now.”
I don’t need Rowan or Maddox to keep me away from him, I take a step back and watch him leave. He leaves behind a trail of red footprints, the bottom of his boot ruined like the rest of his clothes. “Aeliana,” Rowan heavily sighs.
I try to walk away, but Maddox spins me, holding my hand still. “Give him some time,” he says. “He needs a moment, he’s not himself right now.”
“Is he hurt?” I swallow, there’s no way of telling with the way that he looks, but if he’s hurt because of me,
I can’t take it.
“No,” Maddox tells me. “But give him some time to gather his thoughts, it’s been-”
I nod, “Excuse me.” I quietly say, blinking back tears as I walk up the stairs, taking slow steady steps.
“She’s not okay, is she?” I hear Audrey ask, “What the hell is wrong with Kingston anyway?”
“Shut up,” Maddox growls.
I want to cry, my knees grow weaker with each step, and by the time I make it to my bathroom, my knees
buckle.
I ruined everything.
Kingston is mad at me, he asked there be no secrets, he asked that I communicate with him, but I didn’t know how. I was so scared, and everything I feared happened. He can’t even look at me now that he
knows what Brandon did, what I let him do.
The tears come heavy, silent and suffocating. I hold a hand over my mouth, muffling any and every cry that could escape. I’m drowning in a wallow of self–loathing and regret when I hear footsteps outside the door. For a heartbeat, I fear he’s back, but then I hear a familiar voice, the one that doesn’t make my stomach churn. “Aeliana,” Kingston calls. “Where are you? I..”
I get up so fast that I bump my head on the sink, the dull thud making me sit back down. “You’re back,” I say, pulling the door open. Kingston steps inside and nods, staring down at me with disbelief. “I’m sorry.”
I blurt out.

He joins me on the floor, “What for?”
“I made you leave, I made you throw up.”
“You didn’t make me throw up,” he says, cupping my face in his hands. “I didn’t throw up because of you, I’m sorry I made you think I did, but I was…” He trails off, unable to finish his sentence.
“Disgusted?” I finish for him.
His eyes widen, “Never. I was just shocked, Aeli. I couldn’t believe he did those things to you, and I let him get away with it.”
