Rage bubbles beneath my bones, and I turn towards him. “You weren’t there,” I snap. “How would you know?”
“You’re right,” he raises his hands in defeat. A devious smile on his lips. “Please tell us what you think happened.”
What I think happened?
God, I really hate Audrey’s family.
Even her extended family is full of assholes. “I’m trying to,” I frown, looking away from Elder Campbell. “But what good is it if you already think I did it on purpose?”
“Apologies, Luna Aeliana.” Elder Winston says with a warm genuine smile. “Carry on, tell us what happened.”
“I was headed downstairs for a glass of water, and Seraphine ambushed me,” I begin, the scene replaying in the back of my mind as if it just happened a minute ago. Every emotion I felt then makes its way into my bones again. “We had an argument because she kept trying to coax me into doing something I didn’t want to, and I stood my ground.” I swallow. “We wrestled for my arm...” I trail off, my words not sounding right even to me. “I don't know if that's the right word, but she was pulling my arm, and I wanted her to stop, I didn’t mean to push her.”
Elder Xander grins widely. “I thought you said that you didn’t push her.”
“I didn't,” I choke out, shaking my head. “I merely shoved her hand away, and she slipped, that’s what happened.”
“Okay,” he nods. “We have footage from the packhouse.”
“We don’t have cameras in the house,” Rowan counters.
“But we do have someone who was living on the Web.”
“It's called Live, Elder Xander,” Audrey says, momentarily diverting my attention to her. I often forget she’s part of Kingston’s council since she’s in charge of the littles’ safety. “Her friend was live on a social platform, and people saw what happened because the phone was angled near them.”
“Play it,” I confidently say. “You’ll see it was an accident.”
He struggles with the projector for a moment before one of Kingston’s Gammas gets up to help him, and they successfully project his phone screen onto the flat screen.
“So here we have you, and your sister.” He says, motioning to the screen where you can see Seraphine and me in the background of Noah on her stream talking about the cup of tea in her hands.
I didn’t notice her phone that day, all I saw was her and Rowan looking uncomfortable, and now I know why.
