Aspen pauses, “You're never leaving home again, princess.” He tells him, kicking Rowan in the groin for the threat I just made.
“No, no, leave him alone, please.” I rasp, “We’re not together anymore. I’m not pregnant either. Please…you’re hurting him. You’re hurting him.”
I pull free from Danielle. I need to do something, but I don’t know what to do, they’ve gone mad. The last time they beat someone up like this, they killed him, and that one tried to fight back.
My vision swims, and I quickly lose my balance, falling on the concrete floor
“Noah,” Danielle gasps. “Oh my God, Help!”
“Rowan,” I whisper, watching him through blurred vision. All I see is red, I can’t even make out an outline of his features.
“Princess?” Calix pauses, running to my side. “Noah?”
“Fuck, she’s bleeding.” Ares gasps.
“Rowan,” I choke out, fighting the darkness. “Please, Calix…”
“Okay, little one.” He caresses my forehead. “Calm down, he’ll get help.”
“That's not supposed to happen,” Danielle says, her voice trembling with fear. “You have to take her to the hospital now.”
Calix sweeps me into his arms, and that's when I feel something trickling around my head. “Rowan..”
“Bring the ingrate.” He groans.
KINGSTON
I visited the vineyard yesterday to give me something to do, and I wound up spending the night there because my business partner was there and he insisted I stay the night for his anniversary dinner. I stayed, and earlier this morning, as I returned, I got a call from Danielle asking me to come to the hospital and not to call her mother-in-law.
I tried to get here as soon as I could, and even though I’ve been staring at him for the last ten minutes, I can’t seem to understand what happened, and Danielle had been crying when I arrived, so I couldn't ask questions.
“What the hell happened?” I finally ask once her sobs have quieted down.
“Noah’s brothers thrashed him.”
“Fifty of them?” I wince.
“Three,” she sniffs. “He didn’t fight back.”
“No shit,” I snort, looking back at him. He looks like a rag doll that has been through a hundred wolves, battered and bruised. Three men couldn't have done this to him had he fought back, hell ten wouldn't have done this much damage in a fair fight. “Where is Noah?”
“Room twenty-four,” Maddox answers as he enters the room. He is dressed casually, so I assume he hasn't treated either one of them. “She’s still unconscious.”
“Are they going to be okay?” I ask.
“Yeah, Noah looks good.” He nods. “Her brothers didn’t let me near her, but the nurse who saw her tells me she’s fine.”
“Rowan?” Danielle chokes out.
“He’ll live,” he smiles. “He just has a few bruised ribs, two broken bones, a few scratches, swelling and mild scarring.”
“I see.” I nod. He looks like he is far worse off than the diagnosis Maddox just gave. It's a good thing the damage will heal fast.
“You should get that stomach bug checked while you’re here,” Maddox nods at me. “I can’t keep treating something that I’m unsure of.”
“I’m fine,” I wave him off. And right now, I am. My stomach seems to act up sometimes in the afternoons and late early mornings.
His eyes knit together. “You’ve had a recurring stomach bug, you should get a scan since none of the medications is working.”
“Do you not trust in your knowledge?” I counter.
“I graduated top of my class, asshole,” he snaps. “But I don’t have double vision. I can’t see inside you, get you a damn scan.” He scolds. “I’ll find an available—”
