Am I A Good Girl novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Catherine was lying in a hospital bed watching a TV drama when the door was suddenly thrown open with a loud bang.

She looked up-and froze.

Standing there was her biological father, Herman Wilde.

“What are you doing here?” A flicker of disgust-and fear-crossed her face.

Herman let out a humorless laugh. “What? If I hadn’t dumped you at that orphanage years ago, you think you’d have met that rich patron of yours?

“I’m out of money. Transfer me 15 thousand dollars.”

Catherine jerked upright and glared at him. “Why should I? Have you ever raised me for even a single day since I was born?”

Herman slouched into the sofa as if he owned the place.

“Cut the nonsense. Catherine, I know every last rotten thing you’ve done.”

“If you hand over the money nice and easy, we don’t have to burn bridges. Otherwise… you know exactly what I’m capable of.”

Catherine’s hands balled into tight fists. It took her a long moment before she finally released

them.

“Fine,” she said through clenched teeth. “Give me some time. Once I’m discharged, I can start making money.”

Herman snorted. “Look at you. A penniless nobody who somehow managed to catch a fancy early-stage cancer? What a waste of everyone’s money.

“I’ll give you two days. If I don’t see the money by then, I’ll go straight to your adoptive father!”

He stood, kicked the door open, and walked out without a backward glance.

Catherine grabbed the glass cup beside the bed and hurled it at the floor. It shattered into glittering shards. Her breath came in ragged bursts, hatred burning in her eyes.

Why…

Why did everyone else get to live happy lives, while she was tossed aside at an orphanage by that animal she had to call a father?

Why did she have to live a life people sneered at?

She had worked so hard. She had finally managed to push that golden girl out of the house.

She would never-ever-go back to the miserable life she came from.

Catherine dragged herself out of bed.

Ever since tricking Angelique out of her chemotherapy slot, her body had been recovering better

and better.

Soon, she would be discharged.

But she couldn’t wait. Right now, all she wanted was to sell the property, business shares, and the company she had stolen from Angelique.

Then she would transfer the money overseas in batches and find an excuse to leave the country.

That way, her beast of a father would never find her again, and neither would those idiots from the Benson family.

Yes. She had to move fast.

She told the nurse she wanted to get some fresh air, then called a taxi straight to the bank.

At the bank counter, Catherine handed over the card. Her hands trembled with excitement.

In a few minutes, Angelique’s money would be hers. Freedom was so close she could taste it.

The teller glanced at the screen, then looked up with an odd expression.

“Ma’am, the name on this card doesn’t match your identification.

“Are you sure you didn’t bring the wrong card?”

Catherine froze.

“That’s impossible! When we processed the paperwork, my family had already transferred the card ownership to me!”

The teller shook her head. “I’m sorry, ma’am. The cardholder is still Ms. Benson, and this account

is under property-protection freeze.”

Property protection… freeze? Catherine’s mind went blank.

Catherine’s stomach plummeted. How could that be? She had watched Angelique sign the transfer papers herself.

She had checked every line, every signature. Had that bitch played her?

But that was okay. She still had the shops and the company.

Catherine rushed out of the bank and called a friend who had connections.

She waited anxiously on the bench outside. A few minutes later, her phone rang.

“Cathy, about those shops and the company-everything is still registered under someone named Angelique Benson.

“Two days ago, her lawyer filed for full ownership protection.”

Catherine went rigid.

The world seemed to explode in Catherine’s head.
