The direct flight to Hegreau had been delayed until the early hours of the morning due to weather.
By the time the plane finally lifted off the runway, Florence was seated by the window, silently watching the familiar landscape of Nightfang Pack shrink beneath the clouds.
The further the plane climbed, the smaller everything became-until all she could see were endless mountains and sweeping clouds stretching toward the horizon.
Only then did it truly sink in: she had left everything behind. For real.
This was her first time traveling alone to another country.
It was never part of her life plan, nor had she ever possessed the courage to make such a decision before.
But maybe it took forgetting who she was to become who she could be.
If not for the accident that took her memory, she might still be trapped in the prison she built herself, orbiting Baldwin like a helpless moon.
But then again, maybe after you’ve changed that, you realize letting go isn’t as painful as you thought it would be.
Once she accepted that the people she loved had never truly loved her back, walking away became surprisingly easy.
Whether it was Baldwin or her parents, Florence had stopped hoping.
And without hope, there could be no disappointment. So she gave it all up.
To her surprise, it didn’t hurt. There was no regret-only peace.
And beneath that peace, something else quietly began to burn: anticipation.
With those thoughts, the heavy fog inside her heart began to lift.
Even her wolf, which had been listless and withdrawn for so long, stirred with new energy. She could feel her strength returning.
Before she knew it, the plane touched down.
As the cabin doors opened, Florence took a deep breath and stepped forward, pulling her
suitcase behind her.

The long flight had left her tired, and in her exhaustion, she stumbled. Her suitcase jolted forward and smacked into someone’s leg.
“Oh no! I’m so sorry!”
She looked up, startled-and for a moment, her breath caught in her throat.
The man before her was tall, with striking features and a gentle smile. His presence radiated the strength of an alpha, but without the overwhelming dominance. Instead, he exuded an effortless kind of grace.
He was the kind of handsome that stayed with you—the kind you remembered.
“It’s alright,” he said warmly, bending down to steady her suitcase.
She thanked him quickly, flustered, then hurried off with her luggage.
Outside the airport, a gust of warm air greeted her, snapping her back to reality.
This was it. She had really left. And somehow, she felt free.
Her phone rang. It was Zera Bird, her best friend.
“Florence? Why did you suddenly leave the pack? Did something happen?”
Zera’s voice buzzed with concern. “I just saw your Facebook location and freaked out—you’re overseas?!”
Florence looked at the cars zipping past on the busy street and replied quietly, “I ended my mate bond with Baldwin. I’ve left Nightfang Pack for good. Naturally, I need to get away from him.”
The line went quiet. Then Zera spoke again, disbelief thick in her voice. “Wait-didn’t you used to love him more than anything? What happened?”
“I used to be,” Florence said with a faint smile.
A memory flashed-Baldwin’s eyes, soft with affection, but never for her. Always for Ursa.
“He loves someone else. I don’t want to keep fighting for a marriage that was never mine to begin with. I’ve wasted enough years trying. Now, it’s time I live for myself.
“The last time I saw him,” she added after a pause, “I didn’t feel anything. No more love. No more hate. Just … peace. I’ve accepted that he doesn’t love me. And I wish him well. I’ve also decided to let go of the version of me that clung to him for so long.”

Zera let out a long sigh. “I knew it. Baldwin never appreciates you. But maybe it’s for the best- sometimes you have to walk away from the wrong person to find the right one.
“Hey,” she continued with a more upbeat tone. “Remember our promise? You said you’d help me out one day. I just opened a new college for werewolves here in Hegreau. We’re taking in new students, and I’m in desperate need of a good tactical director. What do you say? You’d be perfect for the job. I know those kids would be eating out of your hand in no time.”
Florence was startled.
Back then, she had given up her career and dreams for Baldwin-choosing instead to become the perfect Luna, the supportive wife.
Now, standing at a crossroads, her friend’s offer felt like a lifeline. She was tempted to accept the job.
She had planned this trip as a way to relax and recover-but suddenly, Zera’s offer sparked something deeper.
Even though she was an omega, her professors had once praised her tactical mind, saying her battle strategies could rival those of the top military alphas.
Still, doubt lingered. She’d been out of this game a long time.
It had been so long since she touched anything related to combat theory. What if she were rusty?
“Zera … Are you serious?” she asked, gripping her phone tightly.
“Dead serious! I’ve been hoping to recruit you for ages. Say the word, and you can start tomorrow.”
Zera sounded thrilled. “You’d be amazing at it. And we’re desperate for someone with real skill -if anyone can make a name here, it’s you.”
Hearing her friend’s confirmation, Florence took a long breath.
She used to think that losing Baldwin meant losing everything. But now she realized-there was a whole world out there waiting for her.
From now on, she was going to live for herself.
As love? Maybe one day she’d meet someone who truly saw her and cherished her.
But right now, she was ready to rediscover the woman she used to be-confident, capable, and free.
