Amnesia Erased Luna's Pain and Love novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17 Shadows Behind the Smile

As they passed through an intersection, Ursa suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt. “Alpha! What’s going on with you? You’ve been totally out of it all day!”

The man in the driver’s seat tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

The Ursa in his memories had always been gentle, her words soft and sweet-but this tone was … different.

“Ursa?” He turned to look at her, confused by the sudden change.

Ursa quickly realized she’d slipped up. Her expression faltered for a split second before she forced a polite smile. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap-I was just startled. My emotions got the best of me.”

She lowered her gaze, long lashes casting shadows beneath her eyes. “Don’t take it personally.”

Baldwin studied her downturned face, a strange sense of unfamiliarity creeping in.

But just then, the unread messages from the private investigator flashed across his phone, dragging his attention elsewhere. He started the engine again. “It’s my fault. Let me take you home so you can get some rest.”

Ursa’s knuckles turned pale as she gripped the hem of her dress. She didn’t speak again until the car stopped in front of her family villa. Forcing a weak smile, she whispered, “I’ll head: upstairs. Drive safe.”

The moment she shut the door, the smile fell away from her face. Every trace of warmth vanished from her eyes.

She pushed open the front door to find the air in the living room so tense it felt suffocating.

Her parents sat stiffly on the couch, a few crumpled papers spread across the coffee table. It was Florence’s letter of disownment.

Tara looked up, her eyes red and puffy. “Ursa, Florence is missing. Her phone’s dead, and no one’s been able to reach her.”

“It’s been days,” Martin added quietly.

Ursa bit her lower lip. In the mirror, her eyes were rimmed with red, but the gleam of excitement couldn’t be hidden.

“Should I help? I know people-maybe I can ask around about Florence?”

“No.”

Baldwin’s tone turned cold. “Take care of your parents.”

The abrupt click of the call ending left Ursa with her hand frozen midair, still holding the phone.

She wanted Florence gone-forever, if possible. Only then could Baldwin and her parents be entirely hers.

Downstairs, their anxious voices drifted up. Ursa quickly pulled on her mask of concern again and hurried down the steps. “Still no word about Florence?” she asked, her voice filled with just the right amount of worry.
