Chapter 117
Chapter 117
Documentaries needed to be filmed with minimal interference to animal behavior.
For example, right now, the video showed an orca mother roughly smacking its calf around.

When Leah came back, it was so exhausted that it could barely swim. As soon as Leah saw Sierra, it started bawling, “Sierra. my mom smacked me!”
Orca moms were super laid-back with their calves and didn’t pull any punches when smacking them around.
Sierra noticed that the spot where the baby orca’s skin got messed up was bleeding a bit.
Sierra frowned. “How’d you get that injury on your head?”
The baby orca couldn’t see it, but orcas were tough as nails.
Without even thinking, Leah said, “Guess it was the humpback whale. I shoved its kid onto the shore, so it sent me flying into the rocks. Probably got scratched up there, but whatever, we heal super quick.”
The baby orca was chunky and didn’t care about her injuries at all.
Sierra had it swim closer for a quick check. Seeing it wasn’t serious, she let it go.
After all, even if Sierra tried to treat Leah’s head wound, it would just get washed away the moment it went back into the
water.
“Leah, just go about your business. We’ll be heading out to the deep sea soon,” Sierra said.
Leah had no clue that the video of it getting smacked by its mom had been caught on camera and was about to be broadcast to the whole world.
When Leah heard Sierra wasn’t filming them anymore and was going to focus on other fish, it pouted, “Don’t want to film me anymore? Sierra, I’ll do anything you ask.”
Sierra’s voice was gentle. “We’ve got to film lots of sea creatures, but if you like being on camera, once we’ve got enough footage, I’ll give you your own special shoot.”
Leah was just too adorable for Sierra to resist spoiling it a little.
Sure enough, Leah was thrilled and eagerly offered, “You guys want to go to the deep sea? I can lead you there!”
But Sierra just shook her head, declining the offer.
The deep sea was risky, and the biggest problem was that humans have a limit to how deep they can dive.
Leah could handle way more pressure than humans ever could; it could be dangerous for them, maybe even make them
sick.
When Leah heard Sierra’s explanation, its face fell in disappointment.
Most importantly, Sierra asked them to keep their distance, or else they’d end up making all the fish scatter.
Leah could only go along with it, and in the end, the whole orca pod decided to watch over Sierra from 900 feet behind, so the other fish wouldn’t get freaked out.
Sierra and the others suited up in their protective gear.

Sophie gave Sierra’s oxygen equipment a thorough once-over, and once she was sure everything was good, she said, “Stay safe out there.”
Sierra gave a thumbs-up, popped in her mouthpiece, and flopped backward off the boat with a splash.
The rest of the team followed, dropping into the water one after another, leaving only the two non-swimmers, Timothy and Mark, on board.
Ethan, Sophie, and Alex trailed behind Sierra, while the orca pod kept their distance, hanging back even further.
Down on the ocean floor, schools of fish glided together, bathed in sunlight as they moved through the water.
The ocean covered 70% of the planet, and the vibrant coral reefs were like a lively bazaar, packed with all kinds of marine life.
But in the endless, lonely depths, there was a whole different kind of energy and mystery waiting to be discovered.
With her camera in hand, Sierra filmed all sorts of creatures one would never expect to find lurking in the deep sea.
Suddenly, a red damselfish, red from head to tail, popped up right in front of Sierra’s camera, looking all pitiful and taking up the whole screen.
Sierra nearly jumped out of her skin.
The damselfish stared at Sierra, wailing, “Miss, you gotta stand up for me!”
Sierra was stunned for a moment.
The moment Sierra dove in, the red damselfish spotted her right away. There was this pale, silvery glow around her that made the fish feel drawn in; it just couldn’t help but swim over.
But most of all, humans were always good folks, and they would always have their backs!
The red damselfish pointed at the kelp growing on the coral, which was absolutely swarmed with sea urchins. Each one had black, spiky needles and was chomping away at the kelp like there was no tomorrow.
The red damselfish grumbled, “I bust my fins every day taking care of my veggie patch, and those sea urchins just sneak in and steal my crops! Can’t they grow their own food? Why do they have to eat mine?
“You guys should hurry up and catch those sea urchins and sell them for some cash!”
Sierra froze for a moment. She’d seen plenty of videos before. Local fishermen would go snorkeling to look for sea urchins, and every time, a red damselfish would show up to lead the way.
To thank the damselfish, the fishermen would crack open a few sea urchins and let the fish have a taste.
Word got around on the ocean floor, so when this red damselfish spotted a human, it swam right over to complain.
The red damselfish’s blue eyes were practically begging, and it swain over with a pretty piece of coral in its mouth, dropping it right in front of Sierra
Sierra sighed and wondered, ‘Honestly, how can I say no to that face?’
Sierra and the crew rolled up their sleeves and helped the red damselfish clear out its garden.
As they were leaving, the red damselfish waved its little fins like it was saying thanks and goodbye.
Sierra’s oxygen tank only lasted an hour, and after they’d filmed over seven hundred clips on the first day, everyone finally decided to head back to the yacht.

Chapter 117
As the orca pod watched Sierra getting ready to board the big boat, Leah swam right up to her and asked, “Sierra, can we hang out with you again tomorrow?”
After a pause, Leah added, “We promise we won’t bother you.”
Sierra was always super patient and accepting when it came to animals.
There was no way Sierra could say no to Leah’s little request, so she nodded. “Of course, you can.”
Leah was absolutely thrilled. It rolled over and belly-flopped onto the water with a massive splash, making the yacht shake like crazy. Sierra nearly went overboard!
Leah circled around Sierra, calling out, “Promise! Sierra, we’ll come find you tomorrow!”
With that, the orca pod sang out a melodious call, slowly fading away across the surface, leaving only their long, distant songs echoing from the depths.
Back in the cabin, Sierra handed over over seven hundred clips to Coleson, then quickly took a shower.
There was no signal out at sea, but the yacht had Wi-Fi.
As usual, Sierra started a livestream, and viewers joined in quickly.
People noticed Sierra wasn’t in her dorm this time and started asking where she was.
Sierra said, “I’m out on a mission right now, out at sea. But the signal’s pretty spotty out here, so I might not be able to stream next time.”
[Whoa! You’re out at sea? I always thought you only helped wild animals on land!]
[Can we see the ocean?]
When Sierra saw the request, she didn’t even think twice; she grabbed a jacket and stepped outside.
Sophie quickly followed her out.
Out on the deck, the sea breeze whipped by, bringing that salty scent.
The sun was setting, painting the ocean with streaks of gold. Seagulls skimmed across the water, then perched in a neat row along the deck.
They seemed like they wanted to chat with Sierra, but seeing how busy she was, they just watched her in silence.
Animals always knew when to back off, but some people just didn’t have a clue.
Sebastian spotted Sierra and Sophie on the deck, phones in hand, and figured they were just snapping pics. He scoffed and stepped out.
He’d just had someone dig up Sierra’s background.
Sierra was just a small-time celeb from Hustralia who got roasted by the whole internet and booted out of the spotlight, so she ended up working as an animal keeper.
Sebastian thought she was some big shot, but she was just a little fry.
Sebastian just couldn’t wrap his head around what those folks from Hustralia were thinking to send Sierra to shoot a documentary.
And Coleson actually wanted to kick Sebastian out and put Sierra in front of the camera instead.
