Chapter 116

Leah was shocked at first, but it quickly accepted that Sierra could actually understand it. Not only that, but it was also actually pretty happy about it.

“Sierra, so we’re good friends from now on, right?” Leah asked eagerly.

Sierra nodded. “Yes.”

“Wow, I finally have a human friend! Will you stay with us forever? I can catch you tons of manta rays and dolphins, and we can even play with the baby humpback whales!” Leah said.

Leah paused, then hesitated. “But we can’t mess around with the humpback whale mom. It’s way bigger than us.

“Last time I tried to play with the baby humpback whale, her mom smacked me and sent me flying 30 feet into the air! Good thing I swam away fast, or Sierra, you’d only see me bobbing on the surface now.”

Just thinking about it, Leah couldn’t help but shake its head.

It shook its head a few times before remembering Sierra was still riding on its back, and it forced itself to stop.

Sierra looked at the little one, who seemed so pitiful. If one didn’t know better, one would think it had just survived a disaster.

It turned out, when orcas weren’t busy just surviving, they were all about having fun.

They pretty much went around messing with anything that swam nearby.

Turtles? Hula hoops. Manta rays? Volleyballs to smack around. And even dolphins and sea lions weren’t safe from their wild

games.

No wonder they were called the troublemakers of the ocean.

But every species had its own habits and lifestyles. Sure, humans might think those poor sea creatures were getting picked on, but Sierra wouldn’t interfere with how any species lived or survived out there.

It was just the way things went. Big fish ate little fish, and little fish ate shrimp/

People planted veggies and kept chickens and cows.

This was how animals had lived for thousands of years.

So in the end, going with the flow of nature was what counted.

Sierra didn’t say anything. The big ship was now just a stone’s throw away.

Leah suddenly stopped, its voice hesitant and sounding all innocent. “Sierra, do you mind swimming over there by yourself?”

Sierra froze. She lowered her head, staring at Leah, who looked totally guilty.

Leah explained, a little embarrassed, “We really love those little humans, so whenever we spot a boat, we just have to follow

“But those big ships are super dangerous. Some of my friends tried to play with humans and got crushed by the ship, were left all bloody, and some even had their tails snapped off.

“I’m too scared to get close. I don’t want to end up like that.”

Eeah was the only orca who could be friends with Sierra. If something happened to Leah, it’d be such a shame.

Sierra paused for a moment, then got what Leah was saying.

“Leah, you can go over there. Just don’t get anywhere near the ship’s propellers, Sierra said.

Sierra pointed at the propellers. “Your friends probably got too close to those things; that’s what got them killed. But you’re right, next time you see a ship, better keep your distance. Not every human out there is nice.”

Leah

gave a tiny nod. “Yeah, Sebastian is the worst. He always tries to make us pose for his photos.

“At first, we went along with it, but he’s not nice at all. When we didn’t want to do it anymore, he wouldn’t let us leave. If we tried to swim off, he’d get all mad and jab us with these really long poles!”

Leah’s voice trembled as it continued, “One of my sisters died because he shoved one of those things right into its blowhole.”

After that, every time they spotted Sebastian, they would go after him without hesitation! Hmph!

Sierra knew orcas just couldn’t resist humans, the same way people couldn’t help but adore cute kittens or puppies.

“Sebastian’s bad news. You all better keep your distance from him,” Sierra said.

Just then, Coleson showed up.

He was on an old iron boat, streaked with rust along the sides.

Coleson spotted Sierra sprawled on the little orca’s back, froze for a moment, then asked, “The orcas aren’t giving you any trouble, are they?”

“Awooo!” Leah let out a playful whale call. “Us, mean to Sierra? No way! Honestly, I wish Sierra could turn into an orca and join our pod!”

They’d totally be Sierra’s ultimate simps.

Coleson could practically feel Leah rolling its eyes at him. He asked, “Is it dissing me?”

Sierra reached out and patted Leah’s smooth forehead, but then she noticed the skin there looked kind of ulcerated and damaged.

She didn’t dwell on it, just gave a small, tight-lipped smile and said, “Leah’s sweet. It is not dissing you.”

Coleson thought about orcas’ reputation in the ocean and said, “I’m not so sure. I don’t know much about animals, but orcas have got a reputation for having a dirty mouth.”

Leah’s little eyes went wide with rage. “Damn it! Who’s spreading that crap? Just tell me who started it and I’ll hunt them down and smash them to bits, bleeped-out curses!”

Leah just let loose with a whole string of unrepeatable curses.

Sierra was speechless. Yeah, this time it was actually swearing for real.

Sierra tried to clamp a hand over Leah’s mouth, but Leah’s mouth was way too big for that; there was just no way to shut it

So Sierra quickly switched topics. “The orcas are super chill with us, so we can keep filming. But Sebastian?”

“Just ignore Sebastian,” Coleson said without hesitation. “As long as the documentary gets aired, it doesn’t matter who’s on camera, Sebastian or any of you.”

Hustralia owned the biggest share, so no matter how much Sebastian threw a fit, he couldn’t do a thing about it.

Hearing Coleson’s answer, Sierra nodded. “Sounds good. Just have your boat follow us from behind.”

Coleson grabbed the supplies from the old iron boat. “Stay safe out there.”

Sierra glanced at the package; inside were bottles of water and some diving suits.

“Got it,” Sierra replied.

Sierra grabbed the supplies, patted Leah on the head, and said, “Leah, let’s go back.”

“Okay!” Leah chirped.

Leah didn’t even bother talking to Coleson. As it left, it sprayed him with water, much gentler than when it sprayed Sebastian, but Coleson still ended up drenched from head to toe.

Coleson was stunned for a moment.

Sierra sighed, “Leah, when we get back, you’d better stay out of your mom’s way.”

Leah didn’t get what Sierra meant, but it still took Sierra back to the yacht.

When Leah turned around, it caught its mom shooting it that icy glare. Leah blinked its little eyes and gave a soft little whine.

That look was way too familiar. Every time its mom was about to smack it, it would look at it exactly like that.

Smack! The orca leader smacked Leah right in the face with its tail.

“Leah, how many times do I have to tell you? Humans are way too delicate! What if you actually hurt one?” the orca leader scolded.

Leah sulked, sinking itself underwater until only a sliver of its back showed above the surface.

Leah complained to its mom, “But that human was so mean! He was saying bad things about us!”

The orca leader gave Leah a glare and didn’t even hesitate to shut it down. “Now you’re even picking up lying? Let’s see if I don’t straighten you out today!”

Leah saw its mom gearing up for another smack, and with danger written all over the situation, Leah bolted, its fins churning the water as it made its escape.

“Mom, I really didn’t lie!” Leah cried, its voice full of panic.

“Man, you’re so mean! I’m never gonna forget you! Just you wait, payback’s coming your way!” Leah wailed.

Next time Leah saw Coleson, it was totally gonna soak him with a giant blast of seawater!

Sierra watched Leah getting chased and smacked, and it totally gave her that classic vibe of a mom about to give her kid a good whack.

Sierra turned around and said, “Ethan, get the camera set up.”

With a small smile, Sierra looked straight at the camera and said, “This is some prime footage right here.”
