Chapter 133

Chapter 133

‘Suicide?’ Sierra thought, her expression shifting instantly.

Finn continued, “I don’t know what’s happening to them. Last night, my mom suddenly gathered with a huge group of whales and said the ocean was polluted. They had to find a way to fix it.

“My mom told me to go with you to Hustralia and never come back ever again! Sierra, what am I supposed to do? Why does my mom want to end its life? Can you go stop it?”

Sierra looked at Finn, her heart sinking like a stone.

‘Are all the whales really going to end themselves together? They want-‘Sierra’s thoughts spun in panic.

Sweat broke out on Sierra’s forehead as she quickly gathered the wildlife rescue team and headed out.

The yacht was too slow, so the orca leader and his pod ferried all six of them across the water.

When the six of them reached the place Finn had mentioned, Sierra saw seven or eight humpback whales slamming their bodies into the rocks, while forty or fifty pilot whales were struggling to beach themselves, letting the sun scorch their sensitive skin.

Finn couldn’t hold it in anymore. It ran over, trying to stop its mother from hurting itself.

But instead of stopping, its mother just got even more resolute, its actions even more desperate.

“Mom, please don’t die,” Finn sobbed. “I’m still just a kid. You promised you’d watch me grow up. If you die, what am I supposed to do? Mom, please, look at me!”

The mother humpback whale shuddered, slamming itself against the rocks again, its skin torn and bleeding all over.

Sierra had the orca leader swim closer, her voice heavy with sadness as she looked at the wounded mother. “Finn needs you.”

The humpback whale was spent, its blood mixing with the dark, polluted water, making the whole scene look disturbingly surreal.

The mother humpback gazed at Finn, its eyes full of sorrow. “Finn, I-I really hate to leave you. The ocean gave us life, made me strong and huge. But now the water’s gone black, and it’s time for us to do what we must.”

The mother humpback whale glanced back at the pilot whales, who kept throwing themselves toward the shore, desperate to end it all.

Even when the waves knocked them back, they’d just fight harder, swimming until they couldn’t anymore.

When the next wave or tide rolled in, the sea would reclaim them, letting them fulfill their purpose,

“Finn, this is what I was meant to do,” the mother whale said, its voice trembling.

Their deaths would renew the ocean, restoring its order and giving it new life.

With those words, the mother humpback whale barely hesitated; it hurled itself once more at the far-off rocks, its determination unshaken.

The jagged rocks shattered beneath it, but this time, it couldn’t muster the strength for another blow. It sank deep into the ocean, vanishing into the depths.

Finn stood frozen, its eyes glazed over as it watched the scene unfold, unable to process the heartbreak in front of it.

Chapter 133

Driven by pure instinct, it plunged into the water without even thinking.

It tried desperately to support its mother’s body, but its mother was so heavy, its weight pulling it down, dragging it deeper toward the ocean floor.

The other whales, Finn’s uncles, aunts, all of them, began to sink as well, their bodies riddled with wounds, streams of blood trailing behind them in long, crimson ribbons through the water.

A piercing, mournful cry echoed through the water. A sharp, anguished sound burst from Finn’s blowhole.

It stopped swimming, frozen in shock, just staring as its mother and its loved ones sank deeper and deeper into the ocean.

In that moment, it was like something clicked inside it.

Its mom once told it that its grandma had passed away when it was just a calf, all because the ocean was poisoned.

And now, its mom was taken from him too, for the same reason.

It was like something finally clicked in his mind. Finn gave its mother’s body one last, lingering look, then, with great reluctance, tore itself away and surfaced, its heart aching with every breath.

Finn looked at Sierra, its eyes full of hurt and grievance, as if it had a thousand things it wanted to say but couldn’t.

Sierra slid off the orca leader’s back and came over to Finn’s side. “I’m so sorry, sweetie.”

“I don’t blame you,” Finn said, its voice suddenly sounding much older. “Mom told me Grandma chose to end its life because the ocean was polluted, so the ocean could return to balance.

“The ocean raised us, so this is my calling now.”

A tear slipped down Sierra’s cheek, blending into the seawater already on her face; no one could tell if it was sweat or tears.

She choked out, “But-”

‘Why do the ocean creatures have to pay for what humans did?’ Sierra thought, her heart twisting with pain.

Finn saw the sorrow on Sierra’s face and tilted its head. Its eyes were weary, but there was a new strength in them. “Mom told me to live well, so I will.

“But if the ocean gets polluted again, I’ll give up my life for the ocean, just like Mom did.”

Finn hated the humans here, but even if it was all their fault, what difference did it make?

Humans dumped their garbage into the ocean, the very lifeblood the whales depended on. If people wouldn’t fix the mess they made, then the whales had no choice but to deal with it themselves.

Finn’s voice was barely a whisper. “Sierra, can I stay by your side from now on?”

Sierra looked at Finn and finally nodded. “Come home with me.”

Over in Hustralia, viewers watching the livestream were shocked and heartbroken as they saw humpback whales slamming themselves against the rocks and pilot whales beaching themselves in a desperate attempt to end it all.

Many couldn’t help but shed tears as they watched the heartbreaking scene unfold.

[Are these whales getting sick because of the pollution? Why are they all trying to end their lives together?]

[Maybe the pollution is making it impossible for them to breathe.]

Chapter 133

I don’t really think that’s the reason. But why isn’t Sierra stopping them? It’s such a shame to see so many rare whales dying!]

[Why isn’t Sierra saving them?]

[Are you even watching? How could Sierra possibly save these whales? They’re huge; there’s literally nothing she can do

[The rest of the team is on the shore, trying to push the pilot whales back into the water over and over, but they just keep coming back to die. What do you expect Sierra to do?]

Sierra watched the stream chat blow up with arguments, staying quiet for a long time before finally saying. I really can’t help.

“Maybe this is just an instinctive legacy for marine life, something they’ve carried since the beginning.

As soon as Sierra spoke, the chat went dead silent. Everyone was waiting for her to drop some knowledge.

Sierra said, “You guys probably know that when a whale falls, life thrives.

“These huge whales think the ocean’s been poisoned, so they’re choosing to end their lives in such a drastic way, hoping their sacrifice will help restore balance to the ocean.”

She added, “And I don’t think this is the first time. So many whales before them have done the same, beaching themselves or smashing into rocks to end it all.

“They’re giving up their lives so the ocean can stay healthy and balanced.”

What Sierra didn’t say was that if the pollution in this area didn’t stop, the whales’ sacrifice would only temporarily restore balance to the ecosystem.

Years down the line, when new whales arrived and sensed the ocean dying all over again, they’d make the same desperate choice.

It was an endless loop, impossible to calculate or escape.
