Chapter 152

In an instant, Emory’s face turned as pale as a sheet.

He opened his mouth, wanting to explain himself, but the way Elliot was staring at him, like he was about to eat him alive, made Emory freeze up. He was so freaked out he couldn’t say a thing.

Seeing this, Dalton realized there was no point in grilling them here. He just barked, “Search the whole house.”

“Yes, sir!” Over twenty cops stormed inside, sweeping through every corner as they started a full-on search. But before they could even find Sierra, she walked out on her own.

The moment Sierra stepped out from the back door, every single pair of eyes in the place snapped to her.

“Sierra!” Elliot called out, hurrying over to her.

Then he saw there was a guy standing right behind Sierra, and Elliot’s eyes narrowed in surprise. But this guy looked absolutely wrecked.

Two grown women were dragging him forward. His whole body was covered in bruises, some big, some small, and his leg was probably broken. He was limping so badly that he could barely move.

And the worst part? There was a shard of porcelain jammed right into his eye, blood streaming down his face. There was even a faint trace of blood at his crotch.

‘Damn, that’s brutal, Elliot thought, eyes wide in shock.

Elliot stopped dead in his tracks, eyes wide with terror. He couldn’t help but squeeze his legs together; just seeing that made him shudder.

Emory stared at Darius in utter disbelief. He’d only been gone for a few minutes, and now his brother was a complete wreck. Emory’s eyes nearly bulged out of his skull in shock and fury.

Darius was trembling from head to toe, wracked with pain.

When he saw Jon, it was like he’d finally found his savior. He broke down, snot and tears streaming down his face. “Emory, these women are vicious, especially Sierra…

Just mentioning Sierra’s name made Darius shiver uncontrollably. ‘Sierra is like the Grim Reaper coming to collect my soul,’ Darius thought, his whole body trembling.

She didn’t care that he was a grown man. She just jammed a shard of broken plate right into his eye, then had the other women go to town on him, kicking and punching him all over.

And to make things even worse, they actually broke his manhood, right then and there.

As Darius poured out the nightmare he’d just endured, it finally dawned on him. He was surrounded by cops.

Like he’d found his last hope, he started sobbing and begging, “Officers, you have to help us. Please, you’ve got to do something.”

Elliot had actually felt a little bad for Darius, dude looked like he’d been through hell. But the moment Darius started crying to the cops for help, Elliot just lost it.

Without hesitating, Elliot sent a brutal kick straight to Darius’s crotch.

Darius was so beat up he’d gone numb, barely feeling anything anymore, but Elliot’s kick was like flipping a switch. His Brain just short-circuited from the shock and pain.

He clutched his crotch, howling in agony, the pain so intense it felt like he was dying.

Elliot didn’t hold back at all. He kept kicking Darius, shouting, “You think you’re the one who’s been wronged?

“You kidnapped all those runaway girls, and you really thought I wouldn’t figure out what you sick bastards were up to? Honestly, you’re lucky they didn’t just finish you off.”

“I’m not,” Darius protested, scrambling to defend himself. “We didn’t kidnap anyone. We actually bought those girls to help them out. If it weren’t for me and Emory, who knows where they’d have ended up, maybe sold off to some awful place”

Daisy, right behind Sierra, heard that and stormed over, rolling up her sleeves and aiming a vicious kick straight at Darius’s crotch.

She said, “Give me a break. So, now I’m supposed to thank you for ‘saving’ me? You think you’re some kind of savior of runaway girls? If it weren’t for you bastards, I wouldn’t have ended up like this.”

Daisy made sure to target Darius’s crotch with every kick.

The cops all pretended to be super interested in the ceiling, acting like they couldn’t hear Darius’s blood-curdling screams at

all.

Once they figured Daisy had let off enough steam, the cops finally stepped in and pulled her away.

Daisy was absolutely livid, complaining to the officer, “Officer, don’t listen to his nonsense! He’s a human trafficker, snatching everyone from little kids barely three to grannies pushing eighty.

“Who knows how many people they’ve sold? Before I even got here, they’d already sold off seven or eight girls. The rest of us? We’re just the ones they couldn’t get rid of.”

The cop’s face hardened instantly. ‘Seven or eight girls already sold off? And all in just a few days?’ he thought, his jaw clenched in anger.

“Cuff them!” he barked.

The rat that had crawled out of the cellar was chilling in the corner, enjoying the show.

It’d always hated those two scumbags, so when Darius was getting beaten up in the cellar, the rat scurried over and kicked him a couple of times, too, then crawled up his pant leg and took a few bites for good measure.

Heh, those two finally got what they deserved. From now on, all the food in the cellar belongs to us, the rat family, the rat thought, feeling pretty smug.

“It’s a damn shame about all those girls they trafficked. There must’ve been hundreds, maybe even thousands. Those two bastards stuffed all the dirty money they made selling them into the cracks between the cellar bricks.

“And to make it even worse, they kept a secret ledger with the name of every single girl they sold,” the rat said, shaking its head.

As soon as Sierra heard that, she spun on her heel without a second thought and headed straight back.

Elliot was still standing there, hands on his hips, giving Darius a piece of his mind. But the moment he saw Sierra turn back, he didn’t hesitate. He kicked Darius and Emory one last time, then hurried after her.

Sierra didn’t say a word. She just made her way down to the cellar, following the info the big rat had spilled.

Elliot and the wildlife rescue team slipped in after her, keeping quiet.

Sophie asked, “What’s going on?”

Sierra shot Elliot a look, then answered Sophie, “The rat just said that after Darius and Emory sold off those women, they hid all the cash in the gaps between the bricks down in the cellar.”

It took Elliot a moment to catch on. He leaned against the wall and said, “The cellar’s huge, Sierra. Don’t go searching by yourself. Let the cops handle it. No need to risk it.”

Plus, he hadn’t even spotted a rat earlier, and seriously, he didn’t believe the rats could speak.

But just as he finished talking, Elliot felt the wall he was leaning against suddenly go loose beneath him. He quickly straightened up, a jolt of nerves running through him.

The next second, a bunch of bricks dropped to the floor, exposing stacks and stacks of thick cash. There had to be at least a million bucks there.

Elliot was shocked. He started grabbing all the cash, and then found a thick notebook stashed in there too.

Elliot’s eyes went wide. “Damn, that rat’s actually supernatural.”

Everyone there was speechless.

Sophie didn’t even bother to point out that Elliot’s tough-guy persona was now in complete shambles.

Sophie stood next to Sierra, watching her flip through the notebook, and suddenly couldn’t help but laugh.

“Well, that was easy. Emory and Darius literally listed out every woman they trafficked, plus the families they sold them to. The cops are gonna have a much easier time running the investigation now,” Sophie said.

Sierra nodded. Everyone turned over all the cash and the notebook they’d found in the cellar to Dalton.

Dalton’s eyes lit up. “Good thing we found this notebook. Otherwise, digging into this case would’ve been a nightmare.”

There were at least a few hundred women written down in there. If Emory and Darius hadn’t bothered to jot everything down, nobody would ever be able to track them all down.

With this notebook, it’s gonna be way easier for the cops to sort everything out.

After coming out of the cellar, Sierra grabbed some bread from one of the wildlife rescue team guys, broke it into crumbs, and handed them to the big rat to say thanks.

The big rat took a bite, and its eyes practically sparkled with delight.

“Sierra, thank you. We rats have never tasted anything this amazing in our whole lives,” the rat exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement.

Sierra smiled. “Honestly, I should be the one thanking you. If it weren’t for you, my team probably wouldn’t have found me so fast, and we never would’ve discovered all that cash and the notebook in the cellar. You were a huge help to us.”

The big rat gave a sheepish chuckle. “Sierra, you’re the first person who’s ever said anything nice to me. Not like Elliot. He kept poking me with that spicy stick of his, acting like I was some kind of nuisance…”

Clearly, the big rat held a serious grudge against Elliot. While the rat was still talking, it shot a look over at Elliot.

Elliot was staring right back, his eyes filled with confusion and a burning curiosity.

Before the big rat could figure out what weird thing Elliot was doing this time, Elliot walked over and joined Sierra, squatting down beside her.

Elliot picked up a random stick from somewhere and gave the rat’s head a gentle poke this time, being extra careful.

He muttered to himself, “Hey, aren’t you supposed to be some kind of rat spirit? Why is it that I can’t understand a thing you’re saying?”

‘Wait, is this rat spirit actually holding a grudge against me? Is it blocking me out on purpose whenever it talks?’ Elliot thought, feeling a little miffed.

‘But seriously, I’m good-looking, smooth, and basically a total catch. How could this happen to me?’ Elliot grumbled to himself, feeling a little put out.
