Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 160

Chapter 160

Chapter 160

The knocking grew louder and louder.

Sierra and the others quickly got to their feet. Marcus hurriedly sent a message to his teammates, telling them to come over right away.

Someone shouted, “Come out! Get out here, now!”

It was Hank’s voice. –

The next second, the front door was smashed open by the villagers. About thirty burly men flooded into the yard, each gripping hoes, clubs, and a few even brandishing shotguns.

Sierra instantly realized their cover was blown.

Elliot stepped protectively in front of Sierra and Sophie, his eyes flashing coldly as he scanned the crowd, then instantly switched to a friendly smile. “Mr. Murphy, what’s going on here? Why is everyone so worked up?”

Hank spat on the ground, showing his contempt.

Hank, probably in his fifties with graying hair and a pair of narrow, triangular eyes that looked downright menacing, glared at Elliot. “Mining boss, my ass! You almost had us fooled!”

Elliot’s face changed for a second, but he quickly smoothed it over and sighed. “Why would I lie to you? If you don’t believe who I am, just look me up. I’m pretty famous, you know.”

Elliot sounded sincere, but none of the men looked convinced.

Just then, a young man stepped out from behind Hank and pointed at Sierra. You’re Sierra Sterling, and all of you are with the Wildlife Conservation Association. Our secret has definitely been discovered!”

Hearing that, Sierra realized the villagers were ready to risk it all now that they’d been exposed.

She stepped forward, looking at the villagers with a confused expression. “Yes, I’m with the Wildlife Conservation Association, and I wasn’t hiding that from you. But what secret do you mean?”

“You…” The young man was at a loss for words.

Seeing Sierra still refusing to admit anything, even now, Hank was so angry that his face grew even darker.

Meanwhile, Ethan quietly slipped out his phone and started recording from the very back of the crowd, making sure no one noticed.

Sierra kept up her innocent act and asked, “Mr. Murphy, we honestly have no idea what secret you’re talking about.”

Marcus snapped, “What the hell are you guys doing, storming in here like this? And you even brought DIY guns? Do you even care about the cops?”

Hank’s face went pale.

“Don’t let them fool you, Mr. Murphy! They’re here to dig into our bear business. We can’t just let them walk away!” one of the villagers called out.

“That’s right! No way we’re letting them go!” another chimed in.

The villagers bristled with hostility, their aggression palpable.

The young man who’d been standing next to Hank spoke up again. “Mr. Murphy, since we’re all doomed anyway, why not just…”

As he finished, a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes. “There are plenty of bears up in the mountains. No one’s going to care if a few wildlife experts end up dead.”

It was not like this was their first time doing something like this.

Sierra’s and the others’ expressions changed dramatically at those words.

‘These guys have done this before!’ they thought.

Marcus’s face turned grim. “If we die here today, you really think that’ll be the end of it? Your secret’s going to come out sooner or later.”

But the young man just shrugged, fearless. “If you’re all dead, no one will ever know.”

All they’d have to do was pack up and set up shop somewhere else, and they’d get away with it like always.

Sure, it was a hassle, but it was nothing they couldn’t handle.

Seeing Hank still hesitating, the young man leaned in and whispered, “Mr. Murphy, what are you waiting for? They’ve definitely found out about our bear bile business.

“And that guy Elliot? He’s probably not some big-shot jeweler at all. He’s probably a cop. Does he really look like a successful businessman to you?”

Elliot, suddenly getting called out, was totally speechless.

He thought, ‘Why am I suddenly the target here?

“This custom suit I’m wearing easily costs over three hundred grand. How do I not look like a successful businessman?’

If the vibe wasn’t so tense right now, Elliot would’ve totally called him out on it.

Finally, Hank stopped wavering and ordered in a cold, hard voice, “Handle it. No loose ends.”

Marcus pulled out his gun and shot at the empty window next to him. The glass exploded.

He stepped in front of everyone, gun raised, and barked, “Let’s see who dares to try anything!”

The villagers froze in their tracks.

The young man said, “What are you all so scared of? Cops aren’t gonna just open fire. There are so many of us.

“Are we really supposed to be afraid of a bunch of weak experts who can’t even fight back…”

Before he could finish, he got drop-kicked across the yard.

Sophie’s eyes narrowed coldly. “Noisy.”

This guy had been riling up the villagers nonstop, pushing Hank to keep making bad calls.

Now he was trying to drag everyone down with him, so Sophie cut him off with a brutal kick.

Sierra stared the villagers down, her voice cold and fierce. “You think killing us will solve your problems? Trust me, if you go through with this, you’re only digging yourselves into a deeper hole!

“Is that what you want for your kids? To grow up hated by everyone, or to be trapped in this same life, hunting bears forever,”

just like you?”

Her words landed hard, and they could see the shock and guilt flicker across the villagers’ faces.

Sierra’s speech cut deep, hitting them right where it hurt.

Yeah, bear bile really did bring in the money. Thanks to years of hunting bears, the village had built themselves some nice houses and stashed away plenty of cash. But bears were wild. They’d fight back, and sometimes, they’d kill.

Plenty of villagers had lost their lives over the years because of it.

They might risk it all just to put food on the table, but that didn’t mean they wanted their kids or grandkids to be stuck doing this kind of shameful, dangerous work forever.

Some of the villagers started to look uncertain.

The young man Sophie had just kicked to the ground saw the shift in the crowd and hauled himself up, clutching his chest in pain.

His face contorted with fury as he jabbed a finger at Sierra. “Spouting bullshit! You think if we back off now, the law’s just gonna let us off the hook?

“We’re standing here with guns aimed at the police. Do you really think they’ll ever let us walk away?”

Sierra narrowed her eyes.

Suddenly, she let out a mocking laugh. “If you back off now, maybe you can still hold your heads high. But if you try to fight us today, do you really think your village will ever catch a break again?

“If we go missing or end up dead, it’ll go viral everywhere. Everyone will be talking about it. You really think the government will just sit on its hands?

“Trust me, they’ll dig up every inch of this place until they’ve got all of you nailed.”

She shot a cold look at the guy who’d been riling everyone up. “You’re the one pushing everyone because you’re getting the fattest cut, right? You know you can’t run, so you want to take everyone down with you. Isn’t that it?”

The whole crowd gasped in shock.

All eyes were on the man now.

“Zach, is she right?” one of the villagers demanded.

“Yeah, Zach’s always been the one egging us on,” another added.

One of the villagers dropped his hoe, his face pale as a ghost. “I’m willing to go to jail, but I won’t let my kids carry my shame!”

More and more villagers started to snap out of it.

Just then, more police showed up.

The villagers were quickly rounded up and restrained. Dalton led a big squad, escorting all the women, kids, and elderly out of the village, while another team made a beeline for the bear base.

But even though they’d braced themselves for the worst, nothing could have prepared them for what they saw when they finally got there.
