Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 172

Chapter 172

Chapter 172

Richard dropped his phone in the sand, his mind going completely blank.

He stared at Sierra in shock, and then shot a look at Sophie.

Suddenly, he realized and demanded, “You called the cops!”

Sierra scoffed, “Took you long enough to figure it out.”

Richard’s expression kept shifting, but before he could get another word out, Thomas came striding over with the police in

tow.

“Mr. Lane, we’re investigating a case of illegal animal trafficking and animal abuse. Please come with us for questioning,” the lead officer said.

With that, the officer shot a look at his colleague.

Richard was immediately cuffed and taken away.

Not only that, but the police rounded up every zookeeper at Harborty Zoo for questioning. They suspended admissions and started evacuating all the visitors.

With something this big going down, social media exploded in less than an hour.

A video of Sierra wielding a stick to drive off the male elephant and save the female one, squaring up to Richard, went viral online.

But the camera was so far away that all they could hear was the tourists shouting and talking over each other. Nobody could really tell what they were saying before things blew up.

Netizens: [I was actually there when it happened. Sierra saw Bongo getting bullied and asked the zoo to split up the male and female elephants, but they refused, saying it was normal.

[So Sierra just told someone to unlock the elephant pen and marched right in to save Bongo herself.

[Pretty sure we heard Sierra say she was gonna take Bongo with her, but the zoo leader wasn’t having it, so they started arguing. Then a whole bunch of cops showed up.]

[Just here for the drama! But wasn’t Sierra working in Amberty? How did she just pop up at Harborty Zoo out of nowhere?]

[Probably just a business trip. Heard there’s some official memo from the top making zoo directors swap places for a bit to learn from each other.]

[Wait, wasn’t Sierra just some low-level staff?]

[Let’s stay on topic. Sierra has every right to be angry. The female elephant was clearly stressed, and the zoo did nothing. They were professional. They knew it well. I’d be upset, too.]

[Sierra is really intimidating. Even I’d be scared.]

[LOL, the male elephants lined up like naughty kids getting disciplined by their mom!]

The internet was buzzing with all kinds of wild theories and rumors.

Meanwhile, the director of Harborty Zoo, who was over at WonderWild Zoo for an inspection, kept trying to call Richard, but the call just wouldn’t go through.

Just as he was about to ring up another one of his staff, a couple of cops in black uniforms suddenly strode right over to him.

The director of Harborty Zoo watched in confusion as the cops started saying something he barely caught, and before he knew it, cold silver handcuffs were snapped onto his wrists.

By the time he was handed over to the Harborty Police Station, that was when he learned that Richard, with nowhere left to run, had confessed everything in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

“James Renton, Richard Lane and the Harborty Zoo staff have already come clean about everything. So don’t bother trying to deny it,” the officer said.

The cops were floored by how heartless they were.

Most of the animals at the zoo were carnivores, and just feeding them cost a fortune every day. So, to save money, they actually swapped out proper meat for pig feed.

When the authorities checked, they found that the pig feed was basically the lowest-grade starch, with dirt and wood shavings thrown in.

Online, people thought the animals at Harborty Zoo looked chubby because they were well-fed, but the truth was way uglier.

They were living off starch, hardly moved around, and their guts couldn’t handle it, so they just kept ballooning up.

And Sierra said that a lot of these animals were actually poached, disguised as rescues, and then sold off cheap to Hustralia.

No one had a clue how long it would take to take down this huge operation.

The cops laid out all the evidence they had, watching as James’s expression grew worse and worse. Then they hit him with the final blow.

The officer said, “The expert team is already investigating. Your zoo’s been shut down for a full review and taken over by the state. So I’m telling you, you’d better come clean now, or else…”

The officer glanced up at James, who was sweating bullets, and said, “Otherwise, we can’t guarantee how many more years you’ll get slapped on your sentence.”

James shuddered, his shirt completely soaked through with sweat.

He looked like he’d aged ten years in a heartbeat, his eyes filled with desperation and terror. At last, he dropped his head, his lips quivering. “I… I’ll talk.”

At eight that night, the authorities finally responded to the news about all Harborty Zoo staff being arrested.

They revealed the ugly truth: years of animal abuse and feeding the animals nothing but pig feed. Then, with James, Richard, and the rest of the staff present, the official findings were announced.

The police couldn’t sentence anyone directly; the case would be rushed to court for a quick decision.

Finally, the Harborty Police tagged Sierra and WonderWild Zoo’s accounts, ending their statement with a heartfelt thank

you.

It read: [Lastly, the Harborty Police would like to express our sincere gratitude to the director of @WonderWildZoo, @Sierra, for her outstanding contributions to society!]

Netizens were stunned.

They got everything the cops said before, but they had no clue about what the last part was about.

They thought, ‘Wait, how are Sierra and the director of WonderWild Zoo even connected?’

Netizens: [Sierra is the director of WonderWild Zoo? Are you freaking kidding me?]

[Dude, we all thought Sierra was just some ordinary employee. What the hell?]

[Legendary people are legendary wherever they go. Sierra is just on another level!]

[If it were anyone else, I’d probably be jealous, but with Sierra, it just feels totally deserved.

[I mean, not everyone has the guts to fight back against domestic abuse, break away from their family as a teen, ace their way into Northbel University, and then absolutely crush it in a field that has nothing to do with their major.

[And when she was at the peak, she landed a government job and just walked away from the spotlight. Seriously, only Sierra could pull off something like that!]

[@Sierra, can you tell us how Bongo’s doing?]

When the Harborty Police saw the trending topic, it dawned on them a little too late that they might’ve really done something wrong.

They hurried to get in touch with Sierra.

Sierra glanced at the trending topic and was both amused and exasperated.

Aside from the whole System thing and her ability to understand animal language, which she definitely had to keep to herself, she’d never actually tried to hide that she was the director of WonderWild Zoo from the internet.

She honestly thought everyone already knew.

After all, she was rarely at the zoo. If she were just a regular keeper, there was no way she’d be traveling all over the country, or even the world, all the time.

So she never bothered to explain, and thanks to the natural bias people had toward her, nobody ever suspected a thing.

So when the Harborty Police finally revealed Sierra’s true identity in their official thank-you post, the whole internet was left

in shock.

Sierra hardly ever logged into her own account lately.

A while back, she’d actually handed the WonderWild Zoo account over to Ryan to take care of.

Now, Sierra logged into her personal account, feeling like she owed her fans and everyone online a response.

Sierra was never one to overthink things. If she wanted to do something, she just went for it.

She quickly typed up a long message and posted it to her feed. As for how people would react, Sierra just put her phone away and didn’t bother checking.

Sierra had already talked to Thomas about the whole Harborty Zoo situation. The authorities had set up a special task force, and they’d be taking care of where all the animals would go.

That night, Sierra and her crew got their tickets to head back.

But just as Sierra was about to get in the car and head to the airport, the System, which hadn’t made a peep in ages, suddenly dinged in her mind.

After being silent for so long, the System abruptly reappeared.
