Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 190

Chapter 190 Sneaking In

By the time they got to Wolfsbane Meadow, it was already two in the afternoon. The local staff wasted no time and made a beeline for the market to pick up some beef and lamb for Solomon.

As they neared the Wolfsbane Reserve, Solomon was moved into a train car that had been converted from a cargo truck. Both circuses were located just outside the Wolfsbane Reserve, and they were a big hit with locals and tourists alike. The group waited outside until nightfall. As darkness settled in, colorful bulbs lit up around the circus, and Afrinians in traditional dress, along with tourists from afar, began lining up to buy tickets.

To avoid attracting attention, the truck carrying Solomon stayed parked outside. Meanwhile, Sierra, with a mini recorder clipped to her, strode in without hesitation.

Back in the truck, Solomon’s eyes went wide as it recognized the familiar sights outside.

Sierra had already passed the ticket check and entered the main arena, her brooch camera capturing every nook and cranny of the circus.

Solomon’s gaze turned sharp as it bared its teeth at the screen.

This was the circus where it used to get beaten all the time.

Suddenly, Solomon looked absolutely menacing, and the staff in the truck gulped nervously.

The staff member in a black uniform quietly said, “Solomon, calm down. If you’re sure, lift your back leg. If you’re not, just shake my hand, okay?”

He couldn’t understand why Sierra trusted them enough to leave them alone with a lion king.

However, as soon as Solomon heard that, it instantly stopped baring its teeth. It turned its back to the staff member and lifted its back leg.

Solomon let out a growl. “I won’t be wrong. I remember everything here.”

If it hadn’t been for that kind-hearted human boy, Solomon wouldn’t have survived all these years to see Sierra.

“Since we’re here, my human wife, you’ve gotta avenge me,” Solomon murmured softly at the screen.

Fortunately, the truck’s soundproofing was excellent, and Solomon had restrained its voice. Otherwise, anyone outside would have recognized the cries of a wild beast.

Sierra, already inside the zoo, couldn’t hear any of Solomon’s calls at all.

After getting their tickets checked, Sierra and the wildlife rescue team headed straight for the audience section and grabbed their seats.

They had paid extra for front-row seats.

At half past eight, it was completely dark. The circus, which had been brightly lit, suddenly went black with a loud boom.

People started whispering nervously.

In the darkness, the wildlife rescue team exchanged a glance, but no one spoke.

Just as the crowd started to worry that something had gone wrong, a spotlight suddenly hit the stage, slicing through the darkness. Under its beam, a clown dressed in bright colors and camouflage patterns appeared.

His red lips stretched nearly to his ears as the clown smiled at the audience, then pulled several balls from his pocket.

Unlike other clowns, he performed this juggling routine using his right hand and left foot together.

Sierra squinted, finally catching that the clown’s left sleeve hung limp and empty.

She thought, ‘Is this the boy Solomon told me about?’

Sierra squinted and leaned back in her seat.

The clown’s opening act ended quickly, and he put away the colorful balls, ready to exit.

The opening act instantly got everyone hyped up.

As soon as he left, the ringmaster stepped onto the stage. He wore a white shirt with a black tailcoat. He was slender but tall, over 6 feet.

He chatted with the audience for a bit, then an Successfully unlocked!ine the black bears for a dance.”

Soon, the trainer appeared with twelve black bears, spreading them across the stage to ensure everyone in the audience had a clear view.

Cheerful music filled the air. The black bears, which had been walking on all fours, suddenly stood upright. As the music played, the trainer added various props to the bears to make the performance more entertaining.

The crowd burst into thunderous applause, and the bears on stage danced even harder.

Yet Sierra and her team sat stone-faced, unable to join in the laughter because the bears’ coats and leg development looked wrong.

Their coats were brittle, malnutrition visible in every bone, mirroring the tortured bears of Genova County.

Prolonged training and standing had deformed their joints; several were seriously misshapen.

Circus attendees were tourists or locals, and the bears’ naturally thick fur hid their condition, unnoticed unless someone looked closely.

The black bear’s performance alone lasted more than ten minutes.

Next came the goat tightrope act, hounds on rolling drums, lions jumping through flaming hoops, and tigers diving from heights.

One of the lions had such a long tail that it brushed against the flames of the hoop. With the trainer waving that electric baton around, the lion had no choice but to keep going despite the pain, forcing itself to finish the act.

Even then, the trainer smacked the lion with his baton without a second thought.

Sierra saw a large patch of fur on the lion’s belly that was instantly scorched black from the burn.

As the lion limped offstage, it let out a miserable whine, sounding on the verge of tears. It said, “It hurts so much.”

These animals had been in the circus for a long time. They might have struggled before, but without exception, they had been broken. Even in pain, they endured silently, showing no hint of suffering.

Timothy, sitting next to Sierra, was shaking with rage. “This is just too much.”

Sierra closed her eyes.

Timothy only saw the surface, but what Sierra heard were the animals on stage, repeatedly facing the audience, crying out for help.

However, the crowd was just clapping and cheering.

Meanwhile, another batch of animals was forced onto the stage. This time, there were five elephants.

These elephants were enormous; even standing beside them, the trainer barely reached one of their legs.

Two of the younger elephants stood in the middle.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is our grand finale. Once the elephants wrap up their show, we’ll pick one lucky guest to hop on and take a lap around the arena, riding high on these gentle giants,” the ringmaster called out.

The crowd around Sierra burst into enthusiastic applause, voices from many countries mingling, each hoping to be the lucky one.

After the elephants finished their act, the circus lights went out again.

A yellow spotlight moved across the audience along with the music, focusing on the middle of the stage.

Finally, the light settled on a Valorian girl.

Sierra felt the spotlight land on her and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

In the darkness, all eyes were on Sierra. People nearby gasped at her subtle eyebrow raise because what might have looked slick on others carried a distinct charm on her.

The ringmaster’s eyes sparkled when he realized she was a Valorjan girl. He did the usual on-stage introduction, asking where she was from and what her name was.

Sierra just tossed out a random name and got invited up onto the stage.

The ringmaster said, “In a moment, with staff support, you can interact with the elephant. It’s very gentle, so don’t be afraid.”

Sierra glanced at the young female elephant beside her, dressed up in bright, eye-catching ornaments.

It seemed like a gentle little girl.
