Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191 Kill It?

Sierra raised her hand and gently ran her fingers over the elephant’s smooth, unblemished skin.

But if one looked closely, one could spot charred patches beneath its legs.

Circus trainers would never beat the animals where people could see, so whenever they disciplined them, they’d always go for spots that were hidden from view.

Sierra noticed that the wound under the young elephant’s foreleg was already seeping with pus.

Sierra’s gaze grew deep as she turned to the host. “What’s this little elephant’s name?”

“Its name is Seya,” the host replied.

When Seya heard its name, its soft ears twitched slightly. It gently hooked its trunk around Sierra’s arm and whispered, “My name is Seya. Miss, you can do anything to me if you want.”

When she heard the innocence in Seya’s voice, Sierra’s heart tightened a little.

Even though Seya looked massive, it was still just a young elephant, not even fully grown yet.

Elephants could live as long as humans, with an average lifespan of seventy years. If Sierra couldn’t rescue it, Seya would be trapped in this tiny circus for its entire life.

And when Seya got old, and its body couldn’t handle those tough tricks anymore, if it was lucky, it would be sent off to a

ZOO.

But if luck wasn’t on its side, it might end up slaughtered for meat or used for experiments in some lab.

Sierra kept it all inside, not letting a single emotion show on her face.

She greeted the audience with a practiced smile, her gaze sweeping across the crowd. Then she cast a few more glances. at the wildlife rescue team.

Ethan and the others had no idea what Sierra was planning, but it was obvious she’d already made up her mind.

Ethan gave Sierra a subtle nod.

Seeing this, Sierra kept waving to the crowd, all the while gently stroking Seya and showing her affection.

The audience was instantly swept up in the moment, eagerly engaging with Sierra and responding to her every move.

The host was practically glowing, thinking he’d just struck gold.

With Sierra’s unmistakable Valorian beauty, and knowing how popular celebrities are in Hustralia’s online world, he figured that once these videos made it back home, people would be flocking to see her in person.

But what the host didn’t notice was that as Sierra leaned in close to Seya, she used the noise of the applause to cover her words and whispered, “Seya, I can understand you.

“I know what you’ve been through in this circus. We’re here to get you out. Just follow my lead, and do whatever I tell you, alright?”

Seya stared at Sierra, eyes wide with disbelief.

Not just Seya, but the other elephants around them turned to look as well.

The elephants let out soft, curious trumpeting sounds.

“Awesome! There really is a human who gets what we’re saying!” one of the elephants exclaimed.

“Miss, please help us get out! I was captured. I just want to go back to the savannah,” pleaded another elephant.

“I’m from Tontanrik. I’ve been stuck in this circus for thirty years. I miss my mom so much,” sniffled a third elephant.

Even though the elephants were calling out, they didn’t attack.

The trainer found it strange and couldn’t help but glance at Sierra, but all he saw were her bright, innocent eyes fixed on the elephants; nothing else gave her away.

The elephants worked with Sierra. They were already super smart, and after all those years of circus training, Sierra had totally earned their respect. Whatever she asked, they pulled it off perfectly.

Even the trainer was totally stunned.

After all, every elephant had its own quirks. Getling a tout at elephant to work together like this was next to impossible. Successfully unlocked!

Soon enough, it was Sierra’s turn to hop onto Saladback and fide her on the ring.

The circus arena stretched about 1,200 feet, with the stands jam-packed with people on all sides.

Seya took its time, slowly strolling a full circle that lasted nearly five minutes.

Seya was totally used to this part; after so many years, Seya had given rides to at least seven people every single day.

This was honestly the only moment it could really let its guard down.

Seya knelt down on its front legs, and with the trainer steadying her, Sierra climbed onto Seya’s back.

On Seya’s back was something like a saddle, the seat decorated with fake red and green flowers, and a soft cushion underneath.

But as soon as Sierra sat down, she realized it was uncomfortable even for her. She couldn’t imagine how much worse it must be for Seya.

The saddle was made of iron, and it had chafed Seya’s skin so badly that it was covered in wounds, some deep, some shallow, all oozing with pus. Every scar told a story of all the pain it had been through over the years.

Seya could feel Sierra sitting on her back, so light that it was like she was barely there at all.

Seya nervously carried Sierra, slowly making its way around inside the arena.

The trainer was leading Seya, and instead of an electric baton, he was holding a curved knife.

Sierra knew that in places like Thalasia, Afrino, and Uridian, some trainers used a sickle-shaped blade to control elephants. Elephants were huge, and if they ever acted out, it could be deadly. That was why trainers would stab the sickle into their skin to force them to obey.

Seya was still young and gentle, and as Sierra reached under the padding of the saddle, her fingers brushed against deep, crusted scabs.

The other elephants probably had it even worse, but the circus just hid their injuries under bright red cloth.

The rest of the circus was swallowed in darkness, with only a handful of spotlights lighting up Sierra and the elephants in the ring.

The cheers from the crowd thundered on, covering up the years of cruelty and filth lurking behind the circus’s glitzy facade.

Sierra leaned in close, half draped over Seya’s back.

Seya’s big ears fluttered, and its little eyes glanced up, then it gave a dramatic eye roll.

Seya made a confused little noise.

Sierra whispered, “Seya, act like you’re about to stumble and toss me off.”

Seya replied, “Uh, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Sierra urged, “Don’t hesitate. Do it now.”

Seya could feel Sierra starting to slip, and it totally freaked out. Its heart skipped a beat, and it froze for a second.

But it didn’t dare mess up Sierra’s plan. So it just squeezed its eyes shut and, with a sudden whoosh, tossed Sierra right off its back.

Sierra tumbled across the ground four or five times before she finally stopped, feeling like her guts had just been scrambled.

Seya’s ears instantly caught the sound. It knew Sierra had taken a nasty fall. Seya turned, its ears twitching with worry. But to its shock, Sierra was still clutching the red silk and the saddle in her hands.

Even though Sierra was grimacing from the pain, when she caught Seya’s confused look, she still managed a small smile. The spotlight shone on Seya’s back, exposing hundreds of densely packed wounds and the clear indentations left by the saddle pressing into its skin.

The audience saw everything, and the military outside must have seen it, too, thanks to Sierra’s camera.

Solomon saw Sierra take a tumble and started scrambling around the van in a panic.

But the van doors were locked tight. No matter how hard it scratched and pawed at them, nobody came to let it out.

Inside the van, one of the staff glanced at Deborah. “We’ve got all the evidence we need. Should we rush in now?”

Deborah shook her head. “No, Ms. Sterling’s not finished yet. But keep everyone ready. If anything happens, we move in right away and make sure Ms. Sterling and her crew are safe.”

“Yes!” the staff replied.

Back at the circus, the red silk came down, and Ethan and his crew rushed in without hesitation.

The trainer instinctively went to stab Seya with his curved knife, but just as the blade hovered in the air, Sierra, having just scrambled to her feet, kicked it away before it could strike.

The host, realizing things were going sideways, dashed backstage and killed the lights in an instant.

Alex was the first on the scene. Spotting the curved knife on the ground, he scooped it up, hid it behind his back, and acted as if he’d never been there. Using the cover of darkness, he melted back into the crowd.

At that moment, Sierra planted her foot firmly on the trainer’s chest, her voice blazing with anger as it echoed through the circus. “What were you about to do? Are you seriously trying to kill Seya in front of all these people?”
