Chapter 209 Death And Vengeance

Everyone outside the cave froze for a second, but Sophie and Ethan were the first to snap out of it, quickly handing Sierra

some water.

Sophie asked, “What’s going on?”

Sierra’s face was ghostly pale as she stared at Sophie in disbelief. She said, “There’s a dead body in there.”

The white tiger just killed a man.

Back at the circus, Solomon nearly tore the owner apart, but this time, it was on a whole other level.

The body inside, one could hardly tell it was a person. Clothes were shredded, blood was everywhere, and the guts had spilled out onto the ground.

It wasn’t even about eating him. The tiger was just unleashing its fury.

Sierra swallowed hard, her eyes locked on the white tiger. She asked, “Tiger, did you have some kind of history with the guy you just killed? Was there bad blood between you?”

After a few gulps of water, Sierra’s gaze turned sharp. She pressed, “Or maybe this guy had a grudge against your mate, the other white tiger?”

She recalled what the takin had mentioned before: there was a trap set near the white tiger’s territory, and once, a female white tiger fell in, died, and her body was taken away by humans.

Seeing a white tiger in the forest was already incredibly rare, not to mention spotting a pair together.

Sure enough, the white tiger’s icy blue eyes had a cold, eerie glow as it began prowling beside Sierra.

It said, “That human set a trap and killed my mate. I just came down from the mountain and ripped that guy to shreds. That’ s all.”

As soon as the tiger finished speaking, he strode over to Sierra, his massive frame making her look absolutely tiny.

But instead of showing his usual ferocity, the white tiger gently nuzzled Sierra’s hand and said, “Those villagers down the mountain, they kept invading my territory, always disturbing us. Not long ago, my mate fell into one of their traps.

“I only found out what happened when the other animals brought me the news. By then, the villagers had already dragged her body away.

“I tracked her scent and hunted them down. When I finally caught up, I saw that man skinning my mate, ripping out her organs piece by piece. What I did was just an eye for an eye.”

Sierra felt a pang in her chest as she glanced at the tiger’s injured leg. She asked, “What happened to your leg?”

The tiger said, “Humans are ruthless when it comes to payback. When one of their own went missing, they set me up. They lured me out, laid a trap, and my leg got caught in an animal trap.

“They ganged up on me, tried to finish me off, but I managed to escape.”

But his leg was already done for. He might not even last till morning.

Everything finally clicked into place, like a thread tying all the pieces together.

Humans killed the female tiger, so the male tiger went down the mountain for revenge. Then the villagers went after him for payback.

Sierra drew in a cold breath, then exhaled, her breath turning to white mist in the chilly air.

She felt nothing for the dead man, no sympathy at all.

All for the promise of big money from a tiger pelt, he did what he knew was wrong. Just like the tiger said, only fair payback. “Could you bring your little one out here?” Sierra asked.

The tiger understood that this gentle human probably couldn’t handle all that blood inside, so he didn’t say a word. He just turned around and headed back into his cave.

He came out carrying a tiny, emaciated cub in his jaws.

The male tiger gently set the cub down on the ground. The little guy was so weak from hunger that he could barely keep his eyes open, let alone stand up.

Seeing how bad things were, Sierra knew that Successfully unlocked! Doing to be enough to save him.

Good thing she’d brought plenty of medical supplies. Siena uyuyer backpack, grabbed a syringe, and with a quick, practiced move, injected it right into the scruff of the cub’s neck.

Who knew if it hurt or not, the cub gave a weak little struggle, but he was so starved that after a few half hearted attempts, he just lay there, like he’d accepted his fate.

Then Sierra fed him a little more goat milk formula.

The cub was so weak that he could barely latch onto the bottle, but he was determined to survive. It chugged away and somehow managed to drink more than half.

After getting some milk in him, the cub looked a little steadier. He wobbled over to his dad and flopped down right beside him.

One could see the tension melt away in the male tiger’s eyes, like he was finally able to let out a breath he’d been holding for ages.

Sierra said, “White tiger, your leg needs treatment, and your cub’s going to need milk for a while. Let me take you both down the mountain so you can get proper care.”

The tiger’s first instinct was to refuse. He bristled at the idea, not trusting anyone outside his territory.

To him, nowhere felt safer than his own land.

“You just killed someone. Humans will be after you soon. You’re injured, and there are traps everywhere. Where could you possibly go?” Sierra said, her voice steady but urgent.

The tiger’s eyes wavered, a hint of uncertainty showing.

Sierra pressed on, “Do you really want your cub to be on the run with you? I can save him today, maybe tomorrow, but after that? You know I can’t stick around forever.”

The male tiger’s eyes flickered with a shadow.

As soon as Sierra finished speaking, an evil thought crept into his mind.

It thought, ‘If I just kept this human here, she could feed my cub every day, couldn’t she?’

But animals weren’t exactly masterminds. The tiger thought he had it all figured out, but Sierra saw right through his little plan.

Sierra asked, “Are you thinking of keeping me here for good?”

The tiger looked totally stunned.

It thought, ‘Wait, I didn’t even say anything. How did she figure me out?’

Sierra said, “Don’t even try to hide it. All your little plans are written plain as day on your face.”

She paused, then her tone grew much more serious as she continued, “Tiger, I’m dead serious. You and your cub have to come down the mountain and get treated at the wildlife rescue team’s center. The meds in my bag won’t last past

tomorrow.”

The tiger asked, “But what if humans end up hurting my cub?”

Sierra could see just how little the tiger trusted humans.

His mate had been killed by humans, and when he came down the mountain, he saw with his own eyes how they skinned and gutted her. That kind of trauma doesn’t fade easily.

To humans, tigers and lions were seen as cruel, enjoying tormenting people bit by bit before going in for the kill.

That much was undeniable.

But most of the time, as long as people minded their own business and stayed in their lane, they knew full well what kind of danger they were getting into.

After all, there was always some moron poking a horse in the butt with a stick, getting kicked, and then whining that the horse went nuts.

Sierra didn’t even have to spell out who the real fool was.

“Solomon, I promise you: no one at the rescue center will ever hurt you or your cub,” Sierra said, her voice steady and full of conviction.

The tiger hesitated, torn between his fear and the hope she offered.

But there was something about Sierra: her words, her presence, her gaze, that was just impossible to resist. The tiger simply couldn’t say no to her.

But just as it was about to say something, he suddenly picked up the scent of unfamiliar humans in his territory.

He instantly threw himself in front of Sierra, blocking her from harm, and let out a series of thunderous roars at the guys.

who came rushing in.

“Get out!” the tiger bellowed, his voice booming through the cave.

Sierra and the others instinctively turned to look at the newcomers.

There were about six men, all wearing camo-print beanie caps and bulky Carhartt jackets, their breath turning to white mist in the cold air.

Each one gripped a hunting rifle, eyes fixed on the white tiger, looking like they were just waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger.

Sierra frowned.

But she quickly stepped forward, sizing up the group.

One of them looked familiar. Sierra recognized him right away. It was Enoch, the shopkeeper from the supply store at the foot of the mountain.

“Enoch, what’s with the armed crowd?” Sierra asked, her eyes flicking over their weapons.

Those were ancient, oversized shotguns: almost as tall as a kid, with barrels thick enough to make anyone nervous. Just seeing them gave Sierra the creeps.

Sierra kept a pleasant smile, but with her hands hidden behind her back, she subtly motioned for the white tiger to get moving.

The rest of the wildlife rescue team quickly caught on, and even Felix and Emery moved in sync, forming a protective line to shield the white tiger from the villagers’ prying eyes.

The white hesitated for a moment, eyeing the wall of wildlife rescue team and Forestry Bureau members. Then, keeping low to the ground, he picked up his cub and limped away as fast as he could.

“Enoch, what do we do? The white tiger made a run for it!” one of the men called out, panic in his voice.

Enoch frowned. Inside, he was getting nervous.

He never expected that coming up the mountain for revenge would land him face-to-face with Emery and Felix.

Even though Emery and Felix worked for the Forestry Bureau, their jobs were about rescuing animals, not hunting them down.

And now, Enoch and his crew had guns in their hands.

Felix’s eyes narrowed as he stared at their weapons. He demanded, “What’s going on here? Back during the big crackdown a couple of years ago, you all claimed you’d turned in your guns. So what’s with these old shotguns now?”

“I…” Enoch stammered.

He was obviously at a loss.

But watching the white tiger’s retreating figure, Enoch clenched his jaw and said, “Felix, I know you’re a good guy, but I have to take that tiger down. That beast came down and snatched my brother away.

“Now I have no idea if he’s even alive or dead!”

Felix asked, “If your brother’s missing, why didn’t you call the cops instead of coming up here yourself?”

Enoch instantly went quiet.

Ever since the tiger took his brother, they hadn’t dared to call the police. There were way too many animal pelts stashed at home. If the cops found all those pelts, the truth about his brother would be exposed, too.

Enoch ran his fingers over the rough surface of his shotgun. It was freezing out here, but sweat was beading on his forehead.

Felix squinted, and he could more or less guess what was going on between Sierra and the white tiger.

His face darkened as he demanded, “The white tiger was living peacefully in its own territory. Why would it suddenly come down the mountain?”

Felix squinted at Enoch and pressed, “You didn’t hurt the white tiger, did you?”

“Felix… I…” Enoch rumbled, his voice shaky and full of guilt.

Felix’s face twisted with anger. He snapped, “So it really was you! Do you know that hunting with traps is illegal? Every single year we come around, warning you not to hunt as the old folks did. Why do you never listen?”

Felix felt a mix of anger and disappointment welling up inside.

The Greenridge Mountains were the lifeblood of Hustralia, packed with all kinds of wild animals. Back in the day, the

villagers here survived by hunting.

But after Hustralia was established and the laws got stricter, people living at the foot of the mountains had to find new ways to get by. So they opened up scenic spots for tourists instead.

Felix never expected that after all these years, folks here were still out here hunting.

Enoch and the other villagers were left speechless by Felix’s interrogation.

Sierra spoke up, her tone gentle but serious, “Enoch, it’s not too late to do the right thing. You know how much trouble you’ Il be in for shooting wild animals and hiding guns.

“Even if you don’t care about yourself, at least think about your son. I just saw him at the shop. He’s just a little kid.”

Sure enough, Enoch was clearly affected.

He leaned in and whispered something to an older man who looked a lot like him. After that, he said, “We were after the white tiger to find our brother. We never hunt, not ever.

“As for these guns… they’re just rare keepsakes passed down from the old folks. We don’t even touch them most of the time.”

The wildlife rescue team almost burst out laughing in disbelief.

Timothy rolled his eyes, but with Sierra staying silent, the rest kept quiet, too. This wasn’t the time to stir things up.

With everyone standing so close together, and only Sophie, Felix, and Emery armed, there was no way they’d win if a fight broke out.

Once everyone had calmed down, Sierra said, “The person you’re after is in the cave.”

Her words left the villagers staring at each other, stunned.

Enoch and the older guy exchanged a look and rushed inside.

Half a minute later, a gut-wrenching wail erupted from inside the cave.

The older man stormed out, jumped onto a rock, and leveled his gun at the white tiger, who was almost out of sight. Without a shred of hesitation, he shouted, “I’m gonna kill you, you bastard!” and pulled the trigger.

The shots echoed through the mountains.

Sierra moved to stop him, but she was a second too late.
