Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212 The Surgery

The takins were all grazing on the other side, so Cayson didn’t see them when he arrived.

He spotted Emery, Felix, and a few strangers, and frowned. He asked, “This is the help you promised? Are you freaking crazy? You expect me to haul over a hundred pounds of gear up the mountain by myself?”

Cayson turned to leave.

“Hey, wait!” Emery called out, his words tumbling out in a rush. He said, “Dr. Sawyer, do you really think we’d do that? We did bring help!”

With that, Emery turned to the takins, who had already chewed the lawn down to the dirt, and called out, “Baa-baa, come here!”

And then, out of nowhere, Cayson saw a dozen takins crowding at the entrance of the rescue station.

Cayson wondered if he was just hallucinating from hunger this late at night.

Emery called out, “Dr. Sawyer, quit standing there and get a move on. Climb up, let’s head up the mountain before the expert gets tired of waiting.”

Cayson felt it was straight out of a fantasy story.

Seeing that Emery and the others rode on the backs of takins, who were still busy chomping down on the pricey lawn the boss had splurged on, Cayson could only stare in silence.

In the end, he had no idea how he even got up the mountain.

Meanwhile, a similarly surreal scene was unfolding on the other side.

Sophie marched the criminals into the local police station lobby, their hands securely tied behind their backs.

Being so close to the Greenridge Mountains, it wasn’t unusual for wild animals to wander nearby, but takins were a rare sight even here. So when a dozen of these massive takins appeared at the station entrance, the officers froze in shock.

Then, they watched as Sophie hopped off one of the takins and started helping everyone else off the rest.

The first thing these folks did was puke their guts out right at the station entrance, but Sophie didn’t even bat an eye. She just pulled out her ID and told the cops everything that went down.

The cops’ eyes went wide as they listened.

Then, one of them pointed outside at the takins still munching away on the plants they’d worked so hard to get. He asked, ” What the heck are those?”

Sophie just said, “Takin.”

The cops were speechless.

Sure, they knew those were takins. What blew their minds was seeing a bunch of takins hauling criminals down the mountain like it was no big deal.

Up in the Greenridge Mountains, after the takins had left, night had fallen completely.

For now, the white tiger was out of immediate danger, but the bullet was still stuck inside. It needed surgery, and fast.

It was so dark that one couldn’t see one’s own hand in front of one’s face; only the white snow piled up on the rocks stood

out.

Sierra set up a simple tent for the white tiger and its cub to keep the wind out.

She pulled a thin down jacket from her bag and bundled the cub up in it. After finishing all this, Sierra finally breathed a sigh of relief. She and Ethan slumped against a rock, finally allowing themselves a brief rest.

They’d been awake for nearly twenty-four hours straight, but out here in the snow, neither of them dared to really fall asleep. Every twenty minutes, Sierra set an alarm to check on the white tiger.

At four in the morning, a sudden rustling sound broke the silence.

The little takin, curled up next to Sierra, was the first to wake up. Catching the scent of its herd, it squealed excitedly, “Sierra, Sierra! Wake up! My mom’s back!”

Sierra snapped awake at the little takin’s voice.

Successfully unlocked!

She saw a group of people climbing down from, the backskin, Will hunded up in puffy down jackets and white coats.

Felix went off to puke again.

Chapter 212 The Surgery

Emery brought Cayson over and said, “Ms. Sterling, this is Dr. Sawyer from the local rescue station. Don’t worry, he’ll fully cooperate with you.”

Cayson gave Emery a look.

Emery quickly said to Cayson, “Dr. Sawyer, she’s an expert from Amberty. She’s super popular online! You could learn a lot from her!”

Cayson frowned and said, “I’m a vet. How old is this kid? Has she even finished college yet?”

With that, Cayson took a good look at Sierra by the light of the flashlights around them.

He thought, ‘She’s got the looks. What a waste if she’s just a pretty face.’

Sierra was sizing Cayson up, too. She could tell he was doubting her skills, so she said, “Hi, Dr. Sawyer. I’m Sierra, the director of WonderWild Zoo. I’ll be counting on your help later.”

Cayson didn’t hold back. He said, “If you’re not confident about the surgery, just let me handle it.”

Sierra blinked.

She’d heard plenty about Cayson in her previous life. He was a mad genius in the veterinary world. He was only thirty-two, yet already a legend with years of hands-on experience.

Thirty-two years old, PhD in veterinary medicine, and chief of medicine at the rescue station. No wonder he didn’t take her seriously.

Of course, Sierra wasn’t the type to back down. She blinked and said, “So, Dr. Sawyer, how about you watch and learn from me later?”

Cayson looked like he’d just eaten something nasty.

Emery was barely holding back his laughter.

He honestly had no clue who was the better vet, Sierra or Cayson, but Sierra was never one to show off. If she dared to take the lead on the surgery, she’s gotta be the real deal.

Emery snorted so hard he almost choked, then turned and gave Cayson a friendly slap on the shoulder. He said, “Cayson, just watch and learn.”

Cayson bit his tongue and just let it slide.

He thought, ‘If Sierra messes up this surgery, I’m tossing her out myself!’

Sierra brought Cayson over to the white tiger’s spot.

The little tiger heard them coming and poked its head out, bundled up in Sierra’s big puffy jacket.

Cayson glanced around and had to admit, Sierra really knew what she was doing. She’d cleared away the snow as best she could and wrapped the white tiger up in a waterproof sheet.

The poor little cub was skin and bones, clearly hadn’t been doing well before, but now it was meowing and circling Sierra, sticking close as if she were its lifeline.

Even if he didn’t want to admit it, Cayson had to give Sierra top marks for how she handled things.

Sierra was busy directing the assistant vets to set up all the equipment.

Noticing how at ease Sierra was with the gear, Cayson asked, a bit surprised, “Ms. Sterling, have you used these before?”

Sierra paused, then replied, “Some, not really. But most of this stuff is basically the same. It is nothing tricky for me.”

Cayson couldn’t help but puff up a little. He said, “At least you know your stuff. These medical devices are all imported from overseas.”

Sierra said, “Honestly, the equipment at WonderWild Zoo is way newer than this. Dr. Sawyer, how do you power this thing up?”

Since nobody answered, Sierra looked over, a bit curious.

Cayson stared at her in disbelief. He asked, “Wait, you mean you actually have the newest version of this machine?”

Sure, this machine was only about the size of a computer, but even the old model cost over 1.5 million dollars, and the latest version was double that.

He’d been handling it like it was some priceless artifact the whole way here, scared to death he’d break it.

And now Sierra was saying she actually had the newest one.

There were fewer than ten of the latest models in the entire world.

Chapter 212 The Surgery

Sierra’s ears were nearly deafened by his outburst, and even the white tiger lying there waiting for surgery couldn’t help but glare at Cayson and let out an angry roar.

Cayson asked, “Sierra, you didn’t sedate this tiger?!”

He thought, ‘Even a dying tiger is still more dangerous than a person.’

Cayson was stunned. He was starting to think Sierra was a complete rookie.

He was just about to give her a piece of his mind when he saw Sierra reach out and pat the white tiger’s head.

Sierra said, “It takes at least ten minutes to set up all the equipment. Why sedate it so early?”

After that, she ruffled the little tiger’s fur and said, “Baby, go hang out with your dad and don’t let him doze off.”

Then, she leaned over and planted a quick kiss on the little tiger’s head.
