Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 220

Chapter 220 The Purgatory

Elliot came to see Sierra not just for dinner, but also to inform her about an official matter.

It was Elliot’s first time stepping into Sierra’s room. As soon as Sierra walked in, Payton was already waiting at the door, greeting her like she was royalty.

Then Payton spun around a few times before flopping down on the couch.

When Elliot came over, Payton barely left any room for him.

Elliot glanced at the situation, picked up Payton, moved it to the far end of the couch, and claimed the best spot for himself.

Payton barked, “Hey, that’s crossing the line, man!”

Elliot asked Sierra, “What’s the dog saying?”

Sierra couldn’t help but laugh. She said, “Payton says, ‘Dude, you’ve successfully caught my attention.”

Elliot thought, ‘Man, this dog is totally an alpha CEO type.’

It was like they just clicked: Elliot instantly took a liking to Payton.

He especially loved Payton’s smart, knowing eyes.

Then Elliot said, “Sierra, I actually got something to tell you today.”

Sierra sat down too and turned on the TV.

The usual cartoon Payton liked to watch popped up, but neither of them cared. Sierra just turned the volume down, just to fill the silence in the living room.

As soon as Payton saw the TV on, it rushed over, plopped down in front of the screen, and stared up at the cartoon.

Sierra ignored Payton and turned to Elliot. She asked, “So, what’s up, Elliot?”

Elliot said, “A while back, Leonard and I started a wildlife rescue foundation. Every year, the Sterling family and my jewelry company each put three percent of our dividends into it.

“Right now, there’s over ten million in the fund. I haven’t found the right person to manage it yet, so I wanted to ask if you’d be interested in taking it over.”

Ellot paused, then added, “Once you take charge, the foundation is yours. As long as you go through the proper channels, Leonard and I won’t get involved with how you use the money.”

Sierra understood what Elliot was getting at.

She thought, ‘This is basically a roundabout way of donating money.’

This was the first-ever donation her animal sanctuary had received, and the amount was massive.

If she turned it down, Sierra really didn’t want to pass up that kind of money. Her sanctuary was doing well financially, but rescue centers across the country were struggling to get by.

Even if she spread the money around, it could really help many places that are in urgent need.

Sierra didn’t even hesitate. She said, “I’ll take over the foundation.”

As soon as Sierra said yes, Elliot felt a weight lift off his shoulders.

He’d been afraid Sierra would think he was up to something and say no.

Then they got down to business, discussing how the foundation would operate.

In the middle of their conversation, Sierra heard an ambulance arrive outside. She guessed the paramedics were probably taking Sharon to the hospital.

They kept chatting until noon, and when things were pretty much wrapped up, Sierra grinned and said, “Elliot, how about I buy you lunch today?”

Elliot was over the moon, but he played it cool, just nodding. He said, “Sure.”

As Sierra and Elliot headed downstairs, Thomas and the director’s team came over.

The director immediately started apologizing.

He explained, “Ms. Sterling, I’m really sorry. Sharon was sent over by the network. Her resume looked solid, so I let her do the interview. I honestly had no idea she was yo

The director said, “How about this? I’ll get you a new reporter. This time, I promise there won’t be any issues, okay?”

Sierra wasn’t going to take it out on the director.

There was no way the director’s crew could run background checks on every guest, especially since Sharon got added at the last minute.

Sierra said, “I’m heading out to lunch with Elliot. If you want to do the interview, make it after three this afternoon.”

The director breathed a sigh of relief.

Sierra’s interview was demanded by the higher-ups. If he didn’t get it done, his job would be on the line.

He thanked Sierra over and over, then rushed off to find a new reporter.

Thomas stood off to the side, looking like he wanted to say something but held back.

Sierra gave him a helpless look and said, “Mr. Monroe, this isn’t your fault. I just got a little too emotional earlier and ended up putting you in a tough spot.”

Thomas opened his mouth, hesitated, then said, “Well. Honestly, I guess I should’ve handled the communication better. As long as it didn’t bother you, that’s all that matters.”

Sierra thought to herself, ‘Honestly, other than feeling a bit sick whenever I see the Sterlings, they really don’t affect me at all anymore.’

In her previous life, just one judgmental look or a single word from the Sterlings would leave her anxious and miserable for days.

But now, ever since she stopped caring about their opinions, she was as happy as she could possibly be.

Seeing that Sierra really didn’t care and wasn’t upset, Thomas finally let out a quiet sigh of relief. He secretly swore that next time there was an interview, he’d make sure he knew exactly who was coming.

No way he was letting the Sterlings sneak in again!

After saying goodbye to Thomas, Sierra picked out a little hidden gem near the zoo for lunch.

Elliot was buried in work. He even had to answer two business calls right at the table.

Once they finished eating, Elliot bolted out the door. His assistant showed up, looking frazzled, and explained that Elliot had totally spaced on an afternoon meeting and was now hustling back in a panic.

Once Elliot was gone, Sierra returned to preparing for the interview.

The interview went off without a hitch.

Before heading out, the director apologized once more and then left.

Sharon woke up soon after arriving at the hospital.

The doctor said she’d passed out from the emotional blow, and they found out she had a heart condition. The doctor told her to watch her mood and not get too worked up from now on.

Jonathan and Shawn rushed over as soon as they received the hospital’s call.

When they walked into the room, they saw Sharon lying limply on the bed, her eyes blank and unfocused. She didn’t even

notice them come in.

Shawn was startled and quickly called out to her.

Shawn said, “Mom, don’t scare me like this. What happened today? Weren’t you supposed to interview Sierra?”

Shawn suddenly stopped mid-sentence, realizing Jonathan was right there beside him.

Just as Shawn expected, when he looked over, Jonathan’s brows were knit tight, and his eyes were cold and piercing.

Jonathan asked, “Did you go and mess with Sierra?”

Sharon snapped out of it when she heard her sons’ voices.

While Shawn was still trying to figure out what to say, Sharon suddenly grabbed both their hands, her eyes flickering with urgency. She asked, “Jonathan, Shawn, did you have the same dream, too?”

Sharon’s words left both of them visibly shaken.

Jonathan locked his eyes on Sharon, his brows knitted tightly. He said, “Mom, don’t tell me you…”

Sharon broke down in tears. She said, “Today, I went to see Sierra because I wanted to protect her. I told her about the dream I had, but she didn’t even flinch.

“She just looked at me and asked if it was something that would happen in the future, or if it had already happened.

“Jonathan, what is Sierra trying to say? She’s perfectly fine right now, isn’t she? I…”

As she spoke, Sharon pressed a trembling hand to her chest.

Shawn, standing off to the side, looked like he’d seen a ghost.

He thought, ‘Sierra asked if it was a dream or reality. Does that mean she’s gone through all that before?

‘But if she has, then how come she’s just fine now?’

Shawn looked at Jonathan and said, “Jon, I had those dreams, too. I saw a bunch of awful stuff: some of it really happened, and some… I don’t even know if it did.”

Jonathan was smart and quick-witted.

Sharon, Shawn, and he had all dreamed the same thing, and with Sierra’s words echoing in his ears, Jonathan instantly drew the only possible conclusion.

Jonathan said, “Sierra… she might have been reset.

“It isn’t just some dream. It is the hell Sierra had really lived through in her previous life.”
