Chapter 219 I’ll Have Your Back
Sharon’s mind went blank, her ears ringing. She had no idea what to say.
Elliot’s eyes went wide, flashing with shock and disgust, then softened with sympathy as he looked at Sierra.
He thought, ‘No wonder Sierra left without looking back.
‘Seriously, what kind of mother would make her own daughter call her that?
‘Just how crushed Sierra must’ve felt at that moment.’
Elliot stepped forward and said, “Mrs. Sterling, don’t ever come looking for Sierra again. If you’ve got time to spare, instead of causing trouble, maybe you should worry about your own company’s mess.
“The stock market’s a disaster lately, and if I’m not mistaken, your family’s business is on the verge of collapse. That stock contract you keep waving around?
“To Sierra, it’s nothing but worthless paper. It means nothing to her. You’re the only one clinging to it as your last bargaining chip.”
Sharon had been caught up in her own melancholy lately, racking her brain for ways to get Sierra to come back.
As for how long it had been since her husband and eldest son were home, Sharon hadn’t even bothered to notice.
But after hearing Elliot say that, Sharon’s face instantly drained of color.
“What did you do?” Sharon blurted out without thinking.
Elliot shrugged and said, “What could I do? I just saw the Sterling family drowning in trouble and made things a little worse for them.”
He wasn’t lying.
The Sterling family was falling apart, with enemies inside and out. Now that they were down, everyone wanted a piece. Nobody missed a chance to kick them.
And Elliot? He just kicked them a few more times than the rest.
Sharon’s mind was buzzing, her thoughts all over the place.
Just as Sierra and Elliot were about to head into the dorm, Sharon suddenly called out, “Sierra, let me say one last thing as your mom.”
She paused, glanced at Elliot, then said seriously, “Let’s find somewhere quiet and have a proper talk. I promise, if you still can’t forgive me after hearing me out, I swear I’ll never come looking for you again.”
Sierra arched her brow, unimpressed.
She shot back, “Not interested. Save it.”
Without another glance, Sierra grabbed Elliot and strode off.
Sharon started to freak out.
Every time Sierra cut her off so ruthlessly, Sharon was left completely powerless.
Finally, she screamed, “Sierra, you’re going to die!”
Elliot stopped dead in his tracks, even before Sierra did. He didn’t care one bit that Sharon was a woman; he grabbed her by the collar, looking like he’d just crawled out of hell, ready to kill.
His eyes flashed a warning as he said, “Sharon, just because you’re older, you think I won’t slap you? Keep your mouth clean. Don’t you dare curse Sierra like that. She’s perfectly fine!”
Sierra’s job was risky enough as it was, and Sharon just had to go and mention death. Elliot couldn’t tell if Sharon was really sorry or just trying to show off in front of Sierra.
But Sharon’s eyes were unwavering. She firmly brushed off Elliot’s hand.
Her fancy high heels clicked sharply against the ground as she strode over to Sierra.
Sharon paused for a moment, then finally shared all the nightmares she’d had over the past few months with Sierra. Sharon said, “Sierra, I’ve been having these dreams where you get attacked and killed in the street. I’ve been so worried about you. Please, come home with me, okay?ound wall philes you.”

Sierra couldn’t hide her shock; her eyes locked into huren, aplauding for answers.
Sierra thought, ‘Did Sharon really dream about my previous life?

‘Is she just dreaming, or did she get reset, too?’
But then, Sierra just chuckled.
Her laugh was a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Sharon stared, looking like she wanted to say something but couldn’t get the words out.
Once the laughter faded, Sierra leaned in and whispered so only Sharon could hear, “Is that all you dreamed about? Did you ever see who killed me? Who else was there on the street?
“You, Jonathan, Shawn, and that so-called invisible father of mine, were any of you there?”
Sierra’s words hit Sharon like she’d been struck by lightning. She was completely floored.
Her eyes widened in fear, lips trembling. An outrageous idea flashed through her mind, but she refused to believe it.
She thought, ‘No. No way. That’s impossible.’
Sierra gave Sharon a mocking look and continued, “Let me try to picture the scene. You were probably clutching Natalie, covering her eyes, telling her not to look because my blood was filthy. You didn’t want her to see something so ugly. “You just stood there and watched me die, completely indifferent. And then your whole family just faded into the crowd, didn’t you?
“Did your dreams go on from there, Mrs. Sterling?”
Sierra’s voice was low and mocking.
Sharon’s face was ghostly pale, almost white as a sheet.
Her chin quivered, her eyes overflowing with tears that wouldn’t stop.
Sierra scoffed, “You guys really are something. Not even one of you bothered to claim my body.”
Sierra had no idea who had picked up her body in her previous life.
But that was another life, and Sierra wasn’t about to waste any more thought on it.
Seeing Sharon’s face, Sierra couldn’t help but feel a rush of satisfaction. She muttered under her breath, “So, Mrs. Sterling, were those dreams about the future, or the past?”
Sharon couldn’t take it anymore.
She staggered back a few steps, the world spinning. Right before she passed out, she saw Sierra tell the security guard,” Take her to the hospital,” and didn’t even look back as she left.
Just like in those dreams, when Sharon’d abandoned Sierra without a second thought.
*****
Sierra took Elliot upstairs without a word.
Inside the elevator, Elliot just stared at the back of Sierra’s head, his lips pressed into a thin line, silent the whole way.
Sierra had kept her voice barely above a whisper, but Elliot’s ears had always been sharper than most. He managed to catch almost everything she said.
Elliot had always wondered why Sierra suddenly quit showbiz and why she ended up working at the zoo.
Now he got it.
There was no surprise in Elliot’s eyes; just pure heartache for Sierra.
He thought, ‘Sierra’s had it so rough.’
Elliot quietly used the sleeve of his sharp suit jacket to wipe away his tears.
Sierra turned around and saw Elliot, this grown man crying like a grade-schooler, his suit sleeve stained with a big dark patch from his tears.
“What’s wrong?” Sierra asked, giving him a puzzled look.
Elliot couldn’t admit he’d just uncovered Sierra’s earth-shattering secret, so he fibbed, “I-I’m just feeling a bit sentimental.”
Sierra couldn’t help but laugh at Elliot’s nonsense.
“Hey, Sharon’s not going to come after me anymore. Isn’t that something to celebrate?” Sierra joked, trying to lighten the mood.
But honestly, there was no way Elliot could feel happy about it.
He thought, ‘Sierra is reset. She’d been through hell and back in her previous life; that’s why she left the Sterling family for

good.’
Even if it was all history now, Elliot’s heart still hurt for Sierra.
He couldn’t stop blaming himself: why hadn’t he shown up for Sierra, not even at the very end of her previous life?
Elliot took a deep breath, then said with sudden conviction, “Sierra, from now on, my mom’s your mom, and I’ll have your back for life.”
Elliot’s dramatic, cringey speech made Sierra crack up.
She just went along with it. She said, “Guess I’ll be waiting for you to protect me.”
Clearly, Sierra wasn’t taking Elliot’s words to heart at all.
Just then, the elevator chimed, and the doors slid open. Sierra stepped out first.
She turned back and saw Elliot lingering in the corner, his eyes still red but now carrying a new kind of determination.
“Elliot, we’re here. Come on out,” Sierra called.
Elliot stepped out of the elevator in silence.
But then, he stopped again.
Sierra looked up at him, confused.
Elliot lowered his gaze, his eyes stubborn and unwavering. He said, “Sierra, I mean it.”
He was going to be her family, and he’d stick by her side for the rest of his life
In this life, he wasn’t ever going to break his word.
