Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228 Lucas

Sierra wanted to get a closer look, but every tiger had a keeper standing guard beside it.

Trying to get a word in was like Mission Impossible.

All Sierra could do was act casual and reach out to pet the tiger. She’d always had a way with animals, but this time, the tiger didn’t even bother to look at her.

Sierra stroked the tiger’s chin, and it let out a low, rumbling purr.

Sierra asked, “Why are the tigers here so calm?”

The keeper gave Sierra a strange look.

He replied, “The tigers have been changed by Lucas’s influence. They’ve given up their savage instincts and now actually like being around people.”

The keeper raised his hand and added, “You can even pet its belly. It’ll heal whatever’s wrong with you.”

Lucas was the most revered figure in the haven.

Sierra asked, a bit puzzled, “So the tigers have been enlightened? How exactly did Lucas manage to change them?”

The keeper answered, “Providence sent Lucas to convert these tigers. You must be a tourist from another country, right?”

Sierra nodded, putting on her best respectful and curious face. She said, “Yeah, we’re from Hustralia. We’ve seen lots of people coming to Tiger Haven, but we’re not really sure what brings everyone here.”

As she spoke, Sierra glanced around, playing up her curiosity.

The haven was filled with serene statues, yet hardly any worshippers. Instead, stone tigers stood everywhere, circled by all sorts of offerings.

Sierra asked, “Tiger Haven isn’t as famous as the Royal Palace or any of the other big attractions, but why do so many people come here every day just to pet the tigers? Why not just go to a zoo?”

The keeper chuckled at Sierra’s clueless question.

He said with a hint of pride, “Because the people petting the tigers aren’t tourists.”

Sierra looked at him, her curiosity piqued.

The keeper continued, “Lucas was a doctor who returned after studying overseas. But ten years ago, when he came back to Thalasia, he was diagnosed with cancer.

“He was ready to end it all out in the wild, but then he stumbled upon an injured/tiger.

“Lucas saved it, and the two became inseparable. Maybe Providence was moved by what happened, because Lucas’s cancer just vanished.”

Sierra’s eyes went wide. She asked, “Her cancer just vanished? That’s unreal!”

The keeper nodded. He said, “Absolutely. Lucas had a spiritual awakening and became a monk. Some folks heard about what happened and came here hoping for a miracle, and some actually got better. So the villagers started bringing injured tigers to the haven.

“Every tiger here is as gentle as a kitten and lets visitors pet them as much as they want. And before long, the legend of Lucas and the tigers was everywhere.”

Sierra had heard some of this online, but the stories just kept getting wilder and wilder.

Some people posted videos claiming Lucas was a reincarnated immortal, which was why his cancer vanished. Others said he was the reincarnation of a mountain spirit, and that’s why the tigers obeyed her without question.

The rumors just kept multiplying, but Lucas never bothered to set the record straight.

In just eight years, Tiger Haven became a major tourist attraction, drawing in documentary crews and reporters from all

over.

And that just made everyone believe the stories even more.

The keeper finished his story, hoping to catch a look of surprise on Sierra’s face. But to his disappointment, her expression stayed calm, as if she’d simply heard an ordinary story. His brows furrowed in disappointment.

“You don’t believe what I just told you?” he ask

Sierra gave a small smile and sald honestly, “I’n.

Roial, but ally love tigers.”

Then Sierra stroked the tiger’s belly, cooing at it as one would talk to a child. She asked, “Hey, tiger, is what the keeper said

true? Can you really make people all better?”

The tiger glanced up at her, then lazily shut its eyes again.

Sierra pressed her lips together, thinking, ‘This Tiger Haven is way deeper than I thought.’

Sierra waved goodbye to the keeper, saying she wanted to look around a bit more.

The haven wasn’t all that big, ringed by tropical trees. The paths were lined with patches of grass, locally flavored statues, and some unique buildings.

Sierra took a quick stroll around, barely ten minutes. Everywhere she turned, there were tigers getting petted by tourists. Not a single tiger acted aggressively. They let people fuss over them without a care in the world.

Sierra was strolling along when something suddenly ran right into her leg.

She looked down and saw a tiger cub.

The cub looked a little dazed from the bump. It stood there, wobbling and shaking its head before finally glancing up at her. Realizing it had bumped into someone, the little tiger quickly piped up. “Oops! Sorry, human. I didn’t mean to bump into you.

The cub suddenly froze, cutting itself off mid-sentence.

Its big eyes got even rounder when it spotted Sierra.

“Whoa, you’re gorgeous!” the cub blurted out.

Picking up on Sierra’s gentle aura, the cub started hopping around excitedly.

It ran circles around her, making cute noises, then plopped down, tail swishing, belly up. It was clearly begging Sierra for a good rub.

But Sierra didn’t budge, her eyes locked on the little cub.

The cub couldn’t hold back anymore. It called out, “Hey, human! Aren’t you guys all about petting tigers? Come on, give me a rub! You’re my very first guest, so you get the honor of petting me!”

Usually, it was pretty picky about which humans could touch it.

But with Sierra, there was no way it’d turn up its nose at her.

All it wanted was for her to pet it!

Sierra snapped out of her thoughts and lowered her gaze.

After a few moments sizing up the cub, she finally crouched down and let her hand gently brush over its soft belly.

“Hey there, little tiger, what’s your name?” Sierra asked.

“I’m Kiki!” the cub chirped.

“Can I ask you a few questions?” Sierra asked.

Kiki said, “Ask away! I’ll tell you everything I know!”

Sierra asked right away, “Do you know why all the tigers here look so tired all the time? Has Lucas ever treated you badly?”

The cub tilted its head and said, “Nope, that’s just how tigers are! Lucas’s awesome. He gives us delicious food and tasty cans every day, and lets me play all over the haven. He’s really good to us!”

Sierra couldn’t help but frown at that.

“But when I tried talking to one of the big tigers earlier, it totally ignored me. Any idea why?” she asked.

“I know!” the cub chirped.

With a perfectly serious look, the cub declared, “That’s because I’m the lucky tiger. Only I can hear what you say!” Sierra was speechless.

She thought, ‘Geez, this little guy is such a narcissist.

‘But then again, these cubs have grown up in the haven, always getting socialized and trained to be around people. No wonder they’re so naturally friendly with humans.

‘So trying to get any useful info out of them is basically a lost cause.’

Sierra gave Kiki a gentle pat on the head and started to get up.

Kiki got anxious right away.

It thought, ‘Wait, why’d she stop petting me? Is my belly not as squishy as Mom and Dad’s or something?”

Kiki clung to Sierra’s shoe, gnawing on her shoelace and whining, “Human, pleeease don’t go! Stay here and play with me, okay?”

The cub’s pitiful whining instantly drew a crowd of tourists.

When they saw this, a bunch of tourists couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Just then, a man in red robes stepped out from the main hall of the haven.

He looked to be in his forties, with a shaved head, calm eyes, and a faint smile playing on his lips.

He held one hand upright against his chest, his eyes fixed unblinkingly on Sierra.

“Ms. Sierra Sterling,” he said.

Sierra turned to look at him.

She thought, ‘So this monk is Lucas himself.’
