Chapter 229 Digging Into The Medical Records

Sierra held Kiki in her arms, the little rascal sticking close and making a fuss.

Lucas tried to stop Kiki several times, but Kiki just acted like he couldn’t hear a word. He lay comfortably in Sierra’s arms, his chunky little paws pawing at her hair.

Lucas sighed helplessly and said, “Sorry about this, Ms. Sierra Sterling. The little tigers at Tiger Haven are all a bunch of spoiled brats thanks to me.”

“It’s fine,” Sierra replied.

There was no trace of wariness in Sierra’s eyes, but she kept sneaking glances at Lucas.

Everyone said Lucas had cancer, but the man in front of her looked anything but sick. His exposed arms even had some serious muscle definition.

Sierra thought, ‘Lucas seems to recognize me.

‘Is he just keeping tabs on me, or is this all just a coincidence?’

Sierra set her doubts aside and said, “I didn’t think you’d know me, Lucas

Lucas poured Sierra a cup of coffee, then filled one for himself. The dark roast slipped into the mug with a soft, rich hiss, the scent curling up like warm cedar smoke.

Lucas said, “You’re super popular back in Hustralia, Ms. Sierra Sterling. Even here in Thalasia, tons of young people are hooked on your streams. Plus, I spent a few years in Hustralia as a kid, so I naturally pay attention to Hustralia.”

Sierra put on a surprised look. She said, “Honestly, I thought you were Hustralian when I first saw you.”

Lucas replied calmly, “My dad was Hustralian, and my mom’s local. After my dad died, my mom and I came back to Thalasia. Anyway, Ms. Sierra Sterling…”

Lucas set his cup down, his eyes fixed on Sierra and the others with her.

Lucas asked, “So, what made you suddenly show up at Tiger Haven, Ms. Sierra Sterling?”

Sierra thought, ‘Here it comes.’

From the moment Lucas asked them into the room, Sierra knew Lucas would definitely ask about it.

Before Sierra could get a word in, Kiki suddenly blurted out in his usual cheeky way, “Sierra came here just for me!”

Then Kiki looked up at Sierra with big, serious eyes and said, “Sierra, take me back to Hustralia, okay? I want to live with you

forever!”

Sierra reached out and gently hushed Kiki’s noisy little mouth. She’d been a bit on edge, but with Kiki causing a scene, she actually felt herself relax a little.

Sierra replied, “Tiger Haven is crazy popular back in Hustralia. Every year, tons of people come to visit, and everyone says that if you touch a tiger here, it’ll heal anything that’s wrong with you.

“So while we’re on vacation, my friends and I figured we’d come see if it’s really that magical.

“You know me. I just can’t walk past an animal without stopping, so I had to come check it out for myself.”

Sierra wasn’t being totally honest.

She really was here to dig for answers, but it wasn’t just curiosity driving her. She was sure there was some secret buried in this place.

Sure enough, Lucas’s brow furrowed ever so slightly, barely noticeable.

Then, still wearing that faint, almost invisible smile, Lucas fixed his gaze on Sierra. He asked, “So, Ms. Sierra Sterling, how are you feeling now?”

Sierra rubbed her nose and replied honestly, “There’s a lot about Tiger Haven that science just can’t explain. Are these tigers really tamed by you?”

Lucas laughed and said, “I’m just a regular person. The reason these tigers are so obedient is that they’re incredibly attuned to people. They’ve been touched by the divine.”

Sierra and her crew spat inwardly, ‘Divine Intervention my ass!’

Sierra chuckled and said, “There’s definitely som Successfully unlocked! Haven. The flight from Hustralia to Thalasia was like an icebox, and I ended up catching a colu. but after i petted une un your tigers just now, I suddenly felt so much better.”

With that, Sierra stood up. She said, “My friends and I don’t get to visit Thalasia very often, and we’ve got plans to go see the elephants this afternoon. If I get the chance, I’ll definitely come back again. Lucas, we’ll head out now.”

Lucas stood up as well, watching Sierra leave.

But as soon as Sierra was gone, Lucas’s eyes grew cold.

He looked down at the noisy Kiki by his feet and gave it a kick. He snapped, “So noisy.”

The kick wasn’t too hard, but it wasn’t exactly gentle either.

Kiki tumbled across the floor, then got up and stared at Lucas, eyes full of disbelief, like he couldn’t believe what just happened.

It said, “How could you! I told Sierra you were a good person, but you’re just mean! You actually hit a tiger!

“Do you even know how many fans tigers have? I’m running away for good!”

With that, Kiki chomped down on Lucas and dashed off, ready to snitch to Sierra.

Lucas stared at the wound on his foot, blood bleeding nonstop, his anger growing by the second.

He grabbed Kiki by the scruff of his neck and flung him across the room, then slammed the door shut.

Back at the hotel after their trip to Tiger Haven, everyone piled into Sierra’s room to talk things over.

There weren’t enough chairs, so they just sat on the bed or stood by the window.

Ryan tucked himself into a corner, watching the others with big, hopeful eyes.

As Sierra finished telling them about her conversation with Kiki, Ryan’s eyes went from confused to downright shocked.

But before he could say anything, Ethan cut in. Ethan said, “Maybe it was just a coincidence. Not all wild animals are aggressive, you know.”

Sierra shook her head. She said, “That’s just not how it usually is. You saw the tiger in Darkmoor. It could think for itself, and its feelings were all over the place.

“It could ask Emery for help, but it also came down for payback when the villagers killed its mate.

“But these tigers here… it’s like they’re just empty, like robots or something.

“If it were just one or two, maybe I could buy it, but there are hundreds of tigers at Tiger Haven. That’s just not normal.

“And the baby tigers act totally different from the grown-ups. And Lucas… he’s just weird.”

Sierra tried to make sense of it all, but her mind was a jumble. She felt like something was missing, like she just couldn’t connect the dots.

Sierra suddenly turned to Alex and asked, “Alex, did you find out online what kind of cancer Lucas has?”

Alex nodded. He replied, “Yeah, I checked his social media. Turns out Lucas posted his own medical report. It says he’s got late-stage lung cancer.”

Everyone could sense something was seriously off.

Ryan spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper, “Once lung cancer gets to the late stage, the chances of complications are extremely high. If there wasn’t a misdiagnosis or a transplant, recovery is basically impossible.”

As soon as Ryan finished speaking, Timothy reached over and gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder.

Ryan’s shoulders instantly drooped.

Timothy looked at Ryan, genuinely impressed. He said, “Man, you really know a lot! So Lucas must be making stuff up!”

Ryan thought, ‘Come on, that’s just basic stuff. Anyone would know that.’

But when Sierra gave him some recognition, Ryan’s cheeks turned a little red.

Sierra shot Ryan a look and said, “Ryan, hit up Mr. Monroe right now and get him to find some internet pros back in Hustralia. We need them to check out Lucas’s medical records.”

Ryan didn’t move.

Sierra glanced over at him.

Ryan grinned and asked, “Sierra, did you forget what my major was? “Hacking into networks? That’s my specialty.”
