Chapter 27

The keeper’s name was May, and she had only been out of university for a year.

She loved raccoons deeply, which was how she had landed her job at WonderWild Zoo. Even though Angel had largely ignored her, she never stopped trying to connect.

May never have imagined that a single remark could unleash such a vicious wave of cyberbullying.

Her private information was leaked online, and even her friends and family started getting bombarded with angry messages from strangers.

For the rest of the activity, she remained silent with her eyes red and puffy.

Sierra was still trying to connect with Angel, but it wasn’t working.

She was too focused on Angel to notice how upset May had become.

When the cameraman saw the live chat turning toxic, he urgently waved Sierra over.

Sierra walked over, puzzled, and looked at the stream of comments.

Then, in a voice cold enough to freeze the air, she began reading out a list of usernames.

In the chat, reactions poured in.

[Did she just say my username?]

[What is she doing?]

[Why is she behind the camera during a live stream?]

[Look, Angel just waddled after her!]

[Angel already looks so much better after just thirty minutes!]

[Too bad she always mutes her mic when she talks with the animals. Wonder what we’re missing out on.]

[She’s still calling out those usernames. A lot of them are Natalie’s biggest fans.]

Sierra listed every single harassing account, capturing evidence for her lawyers. Without looking up, she stated, “If I read your name, expect legal consequences. You’ll be hearing from my lawyers within three days.”

Viewers in the chat were stunned. They couldn’t believe she just sued them.

Before the online mob could respond, Sierra’s cool voice filled the livestream. “If you enjoy doxxing people, you should be ready to answer for it in court.”

May, who had been standing there in a daze, looked up at Sierra with confusion in her eyes.

Sierra met her gaze. The law is here to protect you from people like that, May. You don’t need to be afraid

The internet was not a place without laws, and Sierra was making sure they understood that now.

May hadn’t done anything wrong, but her words were twisted and used to turn the whole internet against her.

A sharp word could break people more than any weapon ever could.

May seemed to grasp Sierra’s silent message. She stood up, moved into the frame, and spoke with a voice that shook with quiet strength. “I won’t take the blame for something I didn’t do or say.

“I meant no harm to Natalie. You’re the ones who saw malice where there was none. See you in court.”

The chat went quiet for a moment before a torrent of new messages appeared.

[Exactly. She was just worried about Angel’s health, but you all twisted it into an attack on Natalie and then went after a random person online.]

[Good. I’ve never liked Natalie anyway.]

[Wow, a celebrity actually defending someone normal and threatening to sue the trolls. That’s a first.]

[She seems totally checked out lately. Do you think she’s actually leaving the business?]

[She’s way too into money for that. This industry is a cash cow. She’s just doing this for the hype and the hot searches.]

Sierra did end up trending.

The show had been popping up on the hot lists constantly. That red “trending” tag was enough to make anyone click to see what was going on, fans and casual viewers alike.

At first, Natalie’s supporters flooded the comments, defending her and crying foul. But as more ordinary viewers clicked in and read the full story, the tide began to turn.

The newcomers were left scratching their heads. From their perspective, Sierra was in the right. It didn’t make sense that she was shouldering all the blame.

Just when it seemed Sierra had said her piece, the Sunshine Law Firm made its move.

With five million followers across social media, the firm sent formal legal notices to the online bullies on behalf of both May and Sierra.

The trolls saw the backlash coming and scrambled to delete their accounts and disappear.

They thought they’d gotten away with it, until that night when legal letters arrived at their doors,

The sight of those papers filled them with instant, sinking dread.

On the other side of the zoo, Tris was feeling better, but the room it was in needed a major cleanup.

After a grueling day spent soothing a whining Tris and deep-cleaning the room, Natalie finally got a chance to catch her breath. But the moment she opened her phone and saw the trending topics, her heart sank.

She had never liked May, who was always nitpicking her during the livestreams about how she handled the

raccoons.

When she heard what May had said, Natalie immediately took it as a direct accusation that she had failed Angel.

So she sat back and watched May get torn apart online. When her own fans were openly discussing how to dig up May’s private details, she did nothing to stop them.

In Natalie’s mind, May had brought it on herself by making those subtle, snide remarks during the livestream, and her fans were simply reacting accordingly.

She even imagined that stepping in later to calm things down would make May grateful.

But she never dreamed Sierra would intervene and sue half of her top fans.

Losing fans didn’t frighten her. What truly scared her was the risk of being exposed for her inaction. She knew the public’s rage would quickly turn against her then.

Lost in thought, she walked back to the staff dorm. The moment she saw Sierra heading for the bathroom, she stepped forward, blocking the path.

“Sierra, I saw what happened online. My fans went way too far,” she said, her head bowed in a show of guilt. “It’s my fault for not keeping them in line. That’s why this whole mess started.

“But most of them are still in school. A lawsuit could ruin their future. I’ll make it right with May myself.”

Sierra didn’t say a word, so Natalie kept rambling into the silence.

When she finally stopped, Sierra looked at her with a chillingly steady gaze.

“You’re responsible too,” Sierra said.

Before Natalie could think of a reply, she added, “So you’ll be getting one of those legal letters as well.”

Natalie froze, and the live chat went quiet.

[Okay, I didn’t buy it when people said she was quitting showbiz, but this? She’s not just quitting, she’s burning every bridge she has.]

[The Sterling family has top lawyers. She can’t possibly win against them.]

[But she hired Sunshine Law Firm. They’re global and have never lost a case.]

[Sierra’s completely lost it.]

Natalie stood there stunned, unable to do anything but stare.

“People need to be responsible for what they do,” Sierra went on. “Since they’re minors, their parents will have to deal with the law. Do you think your apology will make them understand what they did?”

She stopped, her eyes cold as she looked at Natalie. “It won’t help. It’ll just make them worse.”
