Chapter 28
Natalic stared back, her lips trembling in shock.
Sierra’s tone made it clear she was done with negotiation.

“But they’re so young,” Natalie pleaded softly, her eyes filling with tears. “Can’t you let it go this once? If their classmates hear about this, they’ll be humiliated for years to come.”
“What of it?” Sierra replied without looking up. “Perhaps they deserve to be.”
Natalie fell silent, words failing her.
“That’s exactly why they do it,” Sierra said. “They’re young, and they have celebrities like you making excuses for them. They know there will never be real consequences. But tell me, who makes it right for the ordinary people they’ve hurt?”
Sierra didn’t raise her voice, but her words carried a quiet, undeniable force.
In the live chat, comments poured in.
[Sierra’s right. If the trolls just get away, what about the person they hurt? You can’t undo that damage.]
[Respect to May. She never backed down from going after them legally.]
[Why is Natalie even apologizing for her fans? She might as well do their time in hell for them too.]
[The drama is real.]
[Sue them all.]
Natalie had no comeback. She just sat on the edge of the bed, eyes red, looking pitiful. Nobody stepped forward to console her.
The next morning, just as Sierra had promised, Natalie received a legal letter. Her face instantly went white with shock.
Her fan base had always been modest, and it had only shrunk since she joined the show.
She blamed it all on Sierra.
Alone in the bathroom, Natalie opened her family group chat and sent a photo of the legal notice.
Then she typed out a message. [Mom, Dad, I need help. My fans really upset Sierra, and she won’t accept my apology. What am I supposed to do?]
At the end of the message, she added a crying emoji.
Her family started replying almost instantly.

Sharon: [Don’t worry, sweetie. We won’t let her touch you or your fans. I’ll talk to Sierra and make her drop this.]
Jonathan: [I’ll handle Sierra. You keep doing a great job on the show. Don’t let this distract you.]
As the supportive messages poured in, Natalie saw she’d gotten exactly the response she wanted.
A cold smile touched her lips, and her eyes flickered with hatred. She vowed that Sierra would live in disgrace forever.

For two days, Natalie pretended nothing was wrong.
The other guests, Vivian, Andy, and Shawn, carried on with their tasks.
Sierra, however, faced her first real problem. Angel followed her everywhere but wouldn’t interact with her.
But she soon noticed something odd. Angel seemed to accept only her, shying away even from May, its usual caretaker.
The records said Angel had been found in the wild as a cub, injured and starving after being chased off a cliff by wolves.
On the surface, the story made sense. Yet Sierra kept feeling that the key was hidden in those lost days.
She asked May, but May didn’t know anything more.
“When Angel was found, it was scared of everyone,” May explained. “It would bite if people came too close, and it wouldn’t let anyone near its space. It took months before it trusted me enough to let me in.”
Whatever had happened to it in the wild was a mystery.
“Where was it found?” Sierra asked.
May thought about it and shook her head. “I’m not sure. I can check the files and tell you later.”
Sierra nodded. There was nothing else she could do anyway.

At lunch with the other guests, Sierra was still distracted, lost in her own thoughts.
Vivian saw that Sierra had barely touched her food and put a generous serving on her plate. “Eat up,” she said. “You’ll think better on a full stomach.”
Sierra snapped out of her thoughts, looking at Vivian with a dazed expression.
Vivian had never seen Sierra so adorably dazed. She bit back a laugh, feeling both amused and a little

“You need to eat more, Sierra. Look at you, you’re all skin and bones. My son is twenty-five and cats like a horse. Maybe I should get him to lend you some of his appetite.”
Sierra caught the playful tone, smiled shyly, and quickly finished her food.
After the meal, Vivian suggested a walk around the zoo.
Sierra agreed with a nod.
Vivian was easy to talk to and could keep up with anyone, so she and Sierra had been getting along well.
After a short walk, they turned to head back as their break was nearly over.
A few steps later, a familiar voice called out to Sierra.
When Sierra turned and saw Sharon, her smile dropped, her face hardening.
Vivian caught the sudden chill in the air. She instinctively moved to stand between Sierra and Sharon, her own expression turning guarded.
On the surface, the woman seemed gentle and refined, but her eyes held nothing but coldness for Sierra.
“Do you know her, Sierra?” Vivian asked quietly.
“No,” Sierra said flatly, looking away. “She’s nobody. The live stream is starting soon. Let’s go.”
She had no desire to speak to Sharon, her birth mother.
But Sharon wasn’t about to let her slip away. Before Vivian could react, Sharon closed the distance and grabbed Sierra’s arm. “I need a word with you, Sierra,” she said firmly. “It won’t take long.”
Sierra stayed silent, her gaze fixed coldly on Sharon’s hand. “Let go,” she said quietly.
“What?” Sharon replied, taken aback.
“Let
“Sierra!” Sharon’s voice rose sharply, stung by the cool distance in Sierra’s eyes. “I am your mother.”
That look cut deep. Sharon couldn’t understand why her daughter had to be so guarded, why she kept shutting her own family out.
After all this time apart, she hadn’t even heard Sierra call her Mom.
Vivian glanced over, surprised by Sharon’s claim.
And when she caught the resemblance between Sierra and Sharon, she paused.
The Sterlings always said Sierra was adopted, but Vivian couldn’t ignore how much the two looked alike.

When Sharon refused to let go, Sierra reached over and firmly removed the hand from her arm. “The Sterlings were never there for me,” she said, her voice low and steady. “I’ve told you we’re not connected. Mrs. Sterling, I must ask you to stop harassing me.”
“Harass you?” Sharon’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She couldn’t understand why her own daughter would see her that way.
“Yes,” Sierra replied with a firm nod. “I want nothing to do with any of the Sterlings. When this show ends, we go our separate ways. Stay away from me. If you don’t, you’ll regret it.”
Sharon’s eyes filled with hurt. “How can you be so cold to your family? We cared about you and wanted what was best for you.”
“If you had cared,” Sierra said, looking directly at her, “I would have known.”
Now her mother stood before her, full of loving words. Yet all Sierra could see was the past, when Sharon desperately shielded Natalie from imagined danger, while Sierra herself faced the real attack from Natalie’s fans.
Sharon had heard Sierra’s cries for help, but instead of intervening, she shielded Natalie from the sight, letting Sierra die before her eyes. That was the deepest wound.

Sierra would have believed Sharon’s loving words once, but not anymore. After everything, she trusted only herself.
That memory rose like ice in Sierra’s chest. When she finally looked at Sharon, her eyes held no warmth, only a deep, silent contempt. “Get lost,” she whispered, the word sharp with hatred.
“Sierra, you’re impossible,” Sharon said sharply.
Sharon had thought Sierra was just being stubborn, that she could talk her way back into her daughter’s good graces.
But that wasn’t it at all.
Sierra was guarded, shaped by a past that Sharon couldn’t fix with just a few kind words.
Thinking of Nina’s predicament, Sharon forced herself to stay composed. Sierra’s behavior could wait, but Natalie’s situation couldn’t.
“Sierra, I’m asking you as a sister to let this go. Don’t take Nat to court. It will ruin her career,” Sharon said.
“And?” Sierra said, unfazed.
Sharon stared at her, shocked into silence. When Sierra had nothing more to say, Sharon felt her own control begin to slip.
“How can you be this cruel?” Sharon finally said, her voice tight. “Nat has been giving in to you all this time. What will it take for you to feel things are fair?”
Anger got the better of her as she snapped, “I’m telling you now, drop the lawsuit, or you’ll regret it.”
The words were out before she could think. Instantly, she was filled with regret. She had let her anger take over and had just lashed out at her own daughter. But there was no taking it back now.
The two of them remained in a cold standoff. Finally, Sierra nodded calmly and said, “Mrs. Sterling, I’ll be waiting to regret it.” Then she turned and walked away.
Sharon tried to follow her, but just then, two well-built security guards in black uniforms approached her.
“Who are you? The zoo hasn’t opened yet. How did you get in here?” one of them asked. “Leave immediately, or we’ll call the police and have you arrested.”
Then the guards grabbed Sharon’s arms and started dragging her out.
Sharon was at a loss for words, and no matter what she said, the guards wouldn’t believe her. In the end, she was forced out.
Meanwhile, Vivian stood there watching Sierra walk away, momentarily stunned. Then she quickly snapped out of it and followed behind Sierra.
