Chapter 276
Chapter 276
“S-Sierra, what do you mean?” Jamie stammered.
‘Am I just too upset to think straight?’ he wondered.
Even though Dopey was still warm in his arms, it wasn’t moving at all. It looked like it was dead.
Sierra sighed helplessly, “Try feeling its belly. See if you can tell it’s still rising and falling.”
Jamie immediately reached out to touch Dopey’s belly.

Dopey’s belly was soft and smooth, almost comforting to touch. But as soon as Sierra said that, he instinctively reached out, only to realize he was too nervous to feel anything at all.
In a panic, he just dropped to his knees and pressed his ear sideways against Dopey’s belly. Listening to Dopey’s belly was his favorite thing to do.
Sure enough, he heard Dopey’s stomach rumbling.
“Sierra, Dopey is really still alive! Please, tell me what I should do next!” Jamie pleaded.
“Dopey got stuck somewhere and couldn’t breathe, but luckily, you found it just in time. Now, just follow my instructions. Start giving it gentle, rhythmic chest compressions,” Sierra said.
Jamie did exactly as Sierra told him.
In no time, he saw Dopey’s breathing get a lot stronger, and then its eyes, which had been tightly shut, slowly opened.
When Dopey saw its owner, it couldn’t believe its eyes.
But after blinking a few times, it realized this was real.
Its eyes sparkled with tears as it gazed up at Jamie with longing, letting out a soft whimper.
The white cat meowed and then smacked Dopey on the head. “You idiot! I warned you to be careful, and you still managed to get bullied by a human!”
While scolding Dopey, Grumpy gave Aron and his parents a deadly glare.
‘Dopey might be an idiot, but that doesn’t mean Aron has the right to hurt it, Grumpy thought. Suddenly, Grumpy hissed at Aron, extending its sharp claws, ready to swipe at him.
Sierra called out just in time to stop it, “Grumpy, don’t waste your energy getting mad over people like that.”
Grumpy gave a grumpy snort, but then remembered that if it did, Jamie might get upset. After all, whenever it snapped at Jamie before, he’d be sad for ages.
So even though Crumpy was still angry and its voice was sharp, its eyes held no blame for Jamie at all.
“I just can’t swallow this!” Grumpy snapped.
‘We’re so gentle, so why can’t some humans just can’t stand to see us happy?’ Grumpy thought.
Instead of replying, Sierra just stayed quiet.
She didn’t stop Grumpy because she wanted to protect Aron. She did it because they were still live on stream, and if Grumpy really went off, it could bring a ton of drama online.

Jamie immediately caught on to what Sierra meant. Not caring whether Grumpy understood or not, he quietly comforted it, and then turned to Aron and his parents, his voice brimming with anger. “I’m not letting you get away with this!”
Aron’s father rolled his eyes. “It is just kids being kids. Do you really have to make such a big deal out of it?”
Jamie let out a sarcastic laugh. “Are you seriously calling me pett right now?”
Aron’s father went pale under that glare and shut his mouth quickly.
Jamie snapped, “I’ve always treated you, your wife, and Aron like my friend. Every Christmas, I give him a gift, right? When you couldn’t make it to his parent-teacher meetings, I was the one who took time off to go instead.
“You’ve seen how much I care about Grumpy and Dopey. And now you have the nerve to call me petty? Well, guess what? Today I am being petty. So, what are you gonna do about it?”
Seeing Jamie wouldn’t let it go, Aron’s father just got defensive and stopped pretending to care. “We didn’t break any laws. Your pets are just a bunch of strays, no papers, no receipts, nothing.
And Aron’s underage, so it’s not like he’ll get arrested or anything Come on, he’s just a little kid. You really expect an elementary schooler to know how to treat animals right?”
That was the last straw. Sierra was absolutely livid. Jamie looked like he might just faint from sheer rage, and the chat was so furious that they were ready to hunt Aron and his parents down through the internet.
[No wonder that little brat dared to pull this. His parents are totally enabling him!]
[Sometimes I really wish we lived in a place where those evil kids are not protected by law, so we could punch this whole family to death!]
[Seconded!]
[Jamie, don’t let them get away with it!]
[Come on, Sierra, say something already!]
Sierra finally spoke up, “Jamie, I’ll take care of calling the cops. Dopey still needs a full check-up, and you’ll probably need to come along with it.”
Only then did Jamie pull himself together. He’d been furious all day, but remembering Dopey was still in danger, he set his anger aside, thanked Sierra, gathered up Dopey and Grumpy, and hurried out the door.
But just as he reached the door, Jamie suddenly stopped, turned around, and fixed them with an icy stare. “Sure, you won’t pay for this in court, and I can’t toss your whole family behind bars.
“But out here in the real world? You’ll be living in your own personal hell. That’s a promise.”
Aron’s father just gave him a blank look, totally lost.
Sierra, still live on stream, gave a “friendly” breakdown, “Nobody cares who you are in prison.
“But tomorrow, when you walk into work, your coworkers will be side-eyeing you, your boss will start wondering if you’re even fit for the job, and as for your kid…”
Her eyes landed on Aron, who was sobbing with snot all over his face. “This elementary school kid who doesn’t even know what empathy means? His classmates will slap him with cruel nicknames, and teachers will single him out.
“Your whole family’s gonna be living under the spotlight, with everyone watching and judging every move you make. Pretty miserable, huh?” Sierra said with a hint of sarcasm, her tone light but her words sharp. “Suck it up. You had it coming.”
