With the wolves holding down the fort, the zoo suddenly felt a whole lot safer, except for Payton, who was convinced it was the only one in real danger.

On the first day, Payton was super friendly with Richie and Penny, but by the second day, it realized all its dog buddies had ditched it to go suck up to the wolves instead. That’s when Payton started to worry about its own status,

Payton looked at itself and fell silent.

So, on the third day, Payton ditched work early and went straight to Sierra, howling at the top of its lungs. “Sierra! Sign me up for a gym, will you? I need to get ripped. There’s no way I’m letting those two show me up!”

Sierra jumped at Payton’s noisy outburst and then didn’t even hesitate to bop it on the head. “Payton, are you losing it again?”

Payton was always coming up with the weirdest ideas.

Sierra wasn’t surprised, but that didn’t mean her cars could handle it.

“Payton, maybe you should just be the city’s air raid siren from now on. Think of all the money we’d save on the electric bill!” Sierra said.

Payton’s eyes practically popped out of its head. “For real, Sierra You mean it?”

Payton whined, “Then at least sign me up for a gym, Sierra!”

Before Sierra could even ask why, Payton started spilling everything like it couldn’t hold it in any longer.

It said, “Richie and Penny are seriously too much! Just because they’re wolves, they steal all my thunder.

“All the dog bros I bribed are now totally obsessed with those two If this keeps up, I’ll be just like a king with no power at all!

“Honestly, I’m just way too weak as a dog right now. Just wait, Richie and Penny, I’m gonna hit the gym for three hours every day until this flabby belly turns into pure muscle. I’ll be the first dog in the world with abs!”

Sierra was speechless as well.

She had to admit that Payton had ambition.

If a dog’s aiming to be top dog, with that kind of determination could do anything.

But whether those paws could actually grip a barbell and pump some iron, that’s another matter entirely.

So, Sierra just pretended she had selective hearing and tuned it out.

Payton tilted its head, and when Sierra still didn’t respond, it couldn’t help but paw at her leg. ‘Sierra, Sierra, say something! Don’t we have that special connection? Why can’t you understand me this time?”

It thought, ‘Just think about all those famous dogs online. Some of them have even more fans than human influencers. And look at Rusty.

‘It just starred in a movie, and in a few short years, it’s become a seasoned actor. Now, Rusty’s a household name across the country. Seriously, what do those other dogs have that I don’t? I’m awesome, okay?”

Sierra couldn’t believe she was actually getting schooled by a dog but when it came to the whole gym thing, she just kept pretending not to hear it.

Honestly, if she really did sign Payton up for a gym, the gym boss would probably kick them both out on the spot.

Honestly, Richie and Penny were way more tactful than Payton. Even though they were younger, Sierra was sure those two never had any intention of stealing Payton’s turf.

After watching them for a few days, Sierra noticed that Richie and Penny were super dedicated to their jobs. Once they realized Payton was the boss, they never overstepped any boundaries.

But Payton was always on edge, constantly worried those two would steal its spot as the head of the security squad and second-guessing everything they did.

After a few days of watching and seeing nothing actually happen. Sierra just couldn’t be bothered to get involved anymore. It really wasn’t a big deal anyway.

Wesley had rented a place near the zoo, but with the rent sky-high, Sierra hooked him up with a temp position at the zoo. So, for the past few days, poor Wesley had been stuck with the worst gig, scooping poop for all the animals.

That day, after the group finished their meal, Sierra suddenly go a call from the cops.

Half an hour later, the whole crew showed up at the police station.

Richie and Penny tagged along, too.

As soon as their car pulled up to the police station, the officer in charge was already waiting out front.

As soon as Sierra and the others got out of the car, the officer hurried over.

Sierra got out and cut straight to the chase. “Anderson, what’s so urgent that you had to call us over like this?”

Anderson looked serious and nodded. “There are some things I can’t really explain over the phone, Ms. Sterling. Could you bring the two wolves along to my office? We’ll talk it through there.”

Sierra had a feeling this was something serious, so she nodded.

Richie and Penny shot each other a glance and then trailed after her.

Once they were in the office, Anderson didn’t hold back and spilled the beans. “Ms. Sterling, do you remember those human traffickers from a few days ago?”

Sierra nodded.

It had only been a few days, so of course she remembered.
