The surgery on Milo was a complete success.

Sierra cleaned out the necrotic flesh and fixed the broken bones with steel plates. Milo is recovering fast; he’ll be ready to head to WonderWild Zoo in just a week, and should be back to full health in less than six months.

But things weren’t looking good for the two injured wolves.

Their wounds kept scabbing and festering, over and over again. And since Milo needed extra food every day, the wolves had been giving up part of their own rations, leaving them seriously malnourished.

If Sierra hadn’t shown up, those two wolves probably wouldn’t have survived another three months.

The wolves needed time to recover, so Milo stayed at the Sunsville rescue station for a week. Sierra arranged with the station head to send Milo to WonderWild Zoo for training once he improved.

Sierra had only been in Sunsville for three days, but the online buzz she hadn’t had time to handle was spiraling out of control.

It wasn’t that Sierra was ignoring things; she just genuinely didn’t have a spare moment.

Sure, she could’ve asked Henry or the others to jump in for her, but when it came to dealing with a shameless company like this, she had to take them down with one decisive blow.

Big shots only made their move when the time was right. But even Sierra had underestimated just how shameless the company and the media could be.

Sierra made her way back from Sunsville to Aville, planning to swing by home for a quick shower before heading over to WonderWild Zoo to talk with Thomas about getting Milo and the two injured wolves settled in.

But as soon as the elevator doors slid open, Sierra was greeted by a hallway packed with reporters. To make matters worse, her front door was splattered with red ink, and filthy stains covered the floor.

Sierra’s brows knitted together, her eyes turning icy cold. The reporters, who had been ready to swarm her with cameras and microphones, were instantly cowed by her glare and took a few steps back, too intimidated to come any closer.

Some of the media outlets, not wanting to miss out on such a viral story, started live-streaming right then and there on their phones.

Sierra scanned the crowd, making a mental note of every news outlet present.

She couldn’t stop every wave of online hate, but that didn’t mean she’d let any group or individual who came after her get away with it.

Sierra pointed at the stains and splatters on the floor and door. She asked, “Own up. Who did this?”

Sierra was slim, her skin almost ghostly pale. Even in a plain black tee and jeans, she looked like she’d just stepped out of a magazine. The moment she spoke, her presence was downright intimidating.

None of the reporters dared to say a word. They knew better than to stick their necks out and be the first target.

Sierra used to have a good temper; no matter what the media threw at her, she’d never lose her cool. But now, she wasn’t bothered about keeping up appearances anymore.

She’d even slapped her own brother Shawn on a livestream before, so these reporters definitely weren’t getting any special treatment either.

Almost on instinct, Sierra stepped toward them, and the crowd immediately shuffled back, intimidated.

Sierra gave a mocking laugh. She said, “So, you’re scared now?”

“We’re just reporters chasing the truth. That mess at your door wasn’t us. You faked quitting and caused the chaos; that’s not our fault,” the intern reporter said, genuinely upset.

“Good news is about fairness,” Sierra said, sweeping her icy gaze over the crowd. “Not about rushing to my door just for hype.”

As she said it, Sierra immediately pulled out her phone.

Some reporters, seeing she meant business, started edging toward the exit, worried they’d get dragged into trouble. But most of them just shrugged it off, totally unfazed.

Sierra was already at odds with the Sterling family, and this drama had dragged on. If they wanted to help, they would have ended the trending topics long ago instead of letting it spiral.

“We’re just here for fairness. You faked quitting for attention, Sierra. You totally brought this on yourself; you’re a nobody now,” one reporter said.

With that, a bunch of cameras were shoved right in Sierra’s face.

Just then, the elevator chimed. Everyone fell silent and instinctively turned around.

A dozen cops stepped out, looking dead serious. One cop said, “What are you doing here? We got a report about you causing a disturbance. All of you, come with us and cooperate in questioning.”

Sierra was momentarily stunned. She hadn’t called the cops.

One of the reporters, looking baffled, asked, “Sierra, did you call the police?”

‘Is Sierra really trying to tank her own career?’ the reporters thought to themselves. ‘Some of us are even live- streaming, blowing things up like this is just going to make things worse for her

Sierra didn’t answer. Just as things were getting tense, the door to Apartment 22-22 clicked open.

A guy stepped out in a dark suit, thick hair over a smooth, broad forehead. He looked like he owned the place, but couldn’t care less; one pale hand on the doorknob, eyes cold and distant.

He glanced over the crowd of reporters, lips pressed into a thin line, jaw set coldly. He said, “I called the police.”

Out of nowhere, a stranger emerged from the crowd, making everyone freeze for a moment as they instinctively turned to look at him.

Sierra turned her gaze to the man as well. She knew who he was; she’d even met him once before.

Now that she thought about it, she actually had some history with the Paterson family.

The guy was Elliot, the so-called useless youngest son Vivian never stopped griping about. But the truth was, Elliot was totally self-made, having built a world-famous jewelry empire from the ground up. His fortune and talent easily matched Leonard’s.

She’d even accepted an offer to be the face of his jewelry brand once, but Natalie had stirred up trouble behind the scenes and wrecked the deal before it could go through.

No one would’ve thought he was actually the one living in Apartment 22-22.

Elliot turned to the cops and said, “These reporters have been camping out here day after day, totally disrupting the lives of everyone who lives here. My lawyers will be at the station soon to handle this. As for these people.

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the crowd of nervous reporters, a cold, amused smile on his face. “If they owe damages, they pay. If they need to be locked up, so be it. I don’t want the police going easy on anyone.”

“And who the hell are you? We’re just here doing interviews; it’s not like we’re breaking any laws!” One of the reporters snapped back, not backing down.

The reporter thought, ‘It’s not like we ever camped out at some celebrity’s front door. When those stars mess up, they’re always super polite to us, just to keep the press from blowing things up.

‘If anyone should be scared right now, it’s Sierra.’

People who knew who Elliot was suddenly went quiet, some even looking for a way to bail.

Elliot didn’t give them a chance. He gave the cops a nod, and the reporters had to kill their streams and were marched straight to the station.

Once everyone was gone, only Elliot and Sierra were left in the hallway.

Sierra looked at him, her gratitude sincere. She said, “Mr. Paterson, thanks for stepping in just now.”

She wasn’t afraid of those reporters, but most of them just loved to make a fuss and never knew when to quit. If Elliot hadn’t shown up, she had no idea how long she’d have been stuck dealing with them.

Elliot kept his cool, his tone casual. He said, “Don’t mention it.”

He glanced at the wall covered in red ink, saying, “Your address is all over the place now. It’s probably not safe for you to stay here anymore.”

Sierra knew that all too well. And there was no way she could ever sell this place now.

Just as Sierra was about to speak, Elliot said, “I know you and my mom get along. If you don’t mind, you can

stay at the Paterson place for a few days, I’ll help you look for a suitable apartment.”

Sierra was genuinely surprised, instinctively looking up at Elliot.

Elliot’s eyes were distant and indifferent, like he was only helping her out because of Vivian.

But why does it feel like Elliot is almost too eager to help?’ Sierra thought.
