Chapter 126
Demetri POV
Scones was a perfect pillion, you could tell she had been on the back of a bike before. In a way, I was jealous that I wasn’t her first; I guess I can’t have all her firsts. We have had a few of those. Lucky for me, Skeleton was a selfish bastard, or I wouldn’t have had so many already, like in the bedroom, bathroom, lounge chair, kitchen, the one in our room that is. Now, on this ride, I hope to give her some more.
This was a first and new experience for me, riding at the back, as the club president would never be seen. Still, as a guest on this ride, I could choose where I rode, and chose to be with Demetri, and glad I did, the four of us had a private chat, and I learned a lot. It made me angry and sad to listen to all those awful things both ladies had gone through. Gunner and I asked questions when we could. Still, for most of the morning ride, it was listen and learn, the ride from lunch to the camping ground, was more fun, the worst was over, and I feel that the girls talking over the intercom gave them a some sort of space, like talking over a telephone, not having to see the other persons face as you spoke, made it less personal, at the same time as very revealing.
This ride was one the clubs did often, the road was perfect, with it’s scenic views, sharp, winding corners, and hills, the ore corners the better, and I couldn’t have asked for a better ride, the group rode well together, the food at lunch was excellent, and according to Gunner, the cafe was forewarned of how many to expect and we ready for us to arrive, they had a lot of food prepared, given they had been the stop over for years, they knew what to expect, and learned over the years, what sort of food and drinks would be asked for, it was good to know the club was that organised, with their organised runs, wonder if they call ahead when it’s an impromptu one.
The road to the campsite was okay; it was a mixture of gravel and dirt road, but hard compacted dirt, so other than the expected dust, for which we spread out a little bit, the road wasn’t too bad, no big dips or potholes in it, well maintained.
The sound of thumping music was the first hint we were close; my chest vibrated along with the beat, Scones giggled with excitement, and squeezed me from behind. I hadn’t been to one of these in years.
“I had forgotten how loud that music can get.” Scones giggled. What could I say? My team and I had been to many of these, and so far, this one sounded the same.
The campsite came into view, and this was the first time I could say that I was impressed. The sleeping area was separated by a small hill, which would reduce noise from the sleepers, and it was not too high to be a problem for walking to the entertainment area. A huge number of bikes were already here, tents were popping up all over the place, but in organised sections, small boulders, marked the area designated for each club to park, generous sizes, this place was huge, the sea of bikes went on for as far as I could see, thousands of people had to be here, further away were the toilets, a block for male and female, and I assume they would have showers too. Large rubbish bins near the toilets. We pulled up in our area, and nodded to our men to surround us. Our girls would be protected at all times, and hopefully it would go unnoticed by them, and they could relax and enjoy the night.
I looked over at Gunner and smiled as he set up his bed for the night, and noticed it was almost identical to what I was going to do. In the past, I wouldn’t use a tarp unless it was stormy weather or expected rain. I like the open sky, but with Scones to think of, I decided to use the tarp covering, which gives us a little more privacy as well.

“Scones, can you show Cora where the bathroom is?” Gunner shouted as I hammered in the peg to secure The tarp.
I looked up to see Scones looping her arm through Cora’s, and the two of them headed to the toilet block, heads together, and giggling as they went, like two school girls on camp night. It was good to see my two girls looking so happy.
Set for the night, I looked around and checked my men before moving to Gunner.
“This place looks well organised,” I said, looking about at the growing sea of bikes and tents, and a few
vans.
“Yes, been coming to this spot for a lot of years. The person who runs the place is more of a caretaker. We own the property, six clubs that is. We pitched in about thirty years ago and bought the place, and have been improving it over time. Perfect riding distance for the six owner clubs, and we talk each time we come as to what we can do to improve it for next time. We had thought of a few shelters for wintertime, but that’s still just a thought, as it might take away the reason we camp out under the stars. Only the toilets and food areas have changed the most over time. The stage is aging; we should upgrade it. But would like your feedback, if you see something you think could improve the place” I smiled at the thought that the bike club’s own shares here, it was a good place, and so far, well maintained and spacious, each club camp spot had a fire pit for when it was winding down time, or just a private time together. It was well thought out, and knowing the bike club owns it helps explain why it was set the way it was.
“Do you have income from this place?‘ I asked as we headed to the toilets.
“We have another entrance for cars and four–wheel drives; only bikes can use the one we used, but some still use the other entrances. That entrance was for the bi–monthly dirt bike rally and tractor pull; that’s where we get the income, not just the entrance fee, but also from the food vans. We need to charge to

our clubs run, each one taking a turn. Our turn is coming up, next run. Scrubs and Bluey organise that. We have a bike parts station too, for those who had a breakdown on the way here, or ordered something they would collect while here, we end up with a nice little profit, that goes into an account, that was run by the six of us, a treasurer sends out quarterly reports.” The clubs sound committed to keeping everything friendly and fun. I like this group even more; they are more my style of fun, and I am glad I hadn’t investigated them, because that would have put a sour note on my enjoyment. Even if I found nothing, it would have still eaten me inside, because I had looked into them. Trust had to start somewhere.
As we arrived at the toilet block, the girls came out.
“Wait for me.” I headed inside and was pleased to see and smell that this place was kept clean, with no old odour. The mirror was stainless steel, and it had not been scratched, with guys‘ or girls‘ names, that’s a first.
“Okay, where first?” I heard Scones ask as I came out and stood beside them.
“Hot dog, and let’s look at the games. The smell of onions has my mouth watering.” Cora giggled, licking her lips in anticipation. I could go for a hot dog. The hot dogs here were a beef sausage in a long bread roll, with onions, a table with sauces and relish to add yourself, a bottle of water, a bain–marie, which was set up, with the sausage in buns in rows already cooked, as fast as they were taken, more were put in.
My men followed my lead, taking a hot dog and water, following us as we headed to the cheers and screams of people having fun. This was my kind of fun. Scones was by my side, eating her sausage. She

events, and uses as many local products as they could, and staff, if not one of the club, was one from the
local area.
