The intercom kept us chatting away for the whole trip. Demetri even apologised for not contacting me to say he would not be home or that he was interested in Scones. I told him he was a grown man and didn’t need me checking up on where he was or whether he was coming home. I understood that changes happen quickly, and I wouldn’t have been his first thought when Scones showed interest, too.

I get it, and I wasn’t upset at all. We had plenty of time to get to know each other better. It was very emotional the first day, and the photos of him and mum together in their youth. I appreciated the break.
My backside was numb by the time we reached the campsite. Gunner warned me, being new to riding, that even veteran riders can get numb bums. Being seated for a long time can cause problems, even at home in the lounge. Often, those on long flights can get the same issue, but not so much, as they can get up and walk around, if they wish. It’s part of why we often stop and grab snacks or give the guys who smoke a smoke break: to give the legs a rest.
The last part of the ride was spectacular, as we wound around the last part of a hill and down the other side. I loved that you could smell so much more, being in a car, you miss so much. We turned onto a dirt track; no road signs signified when to turn. This was like riding into private property or a farm entrance. I was a little surprised, but I guess when you have been coming here long enough, you know what to look for. To me, they all looked the same.
Music was blaring as we neared the end of our ride. It already sounded like people were out there having fun. The smell of onions floated in the air. Yep, already showing good signs of fun: loud music and onions, two of my favourite things. I was so looking forward to this weekend. Scones sounded as excited as I was, and was going to show me around what we girls can get up to. She made it sound like a lot of fun.
I looked around as we slowly rode to where we would camp. Speeding around all these people was not a good idea; it made me laugh how some tried to run between the arriving bikes, not waiting for us to pass by. Being the tail end gave us less area to settle in, but Gunner pulled up at a part that was larger than most, and Demetri’s men pulled up around us. I had expected Gunner to search for Oddball, but he was, content to stop just inside the marked area.
“Off you get, we’ll park here for the night.” Gunner waited for me to climb off before kicking the side stand out and taking off his helmet. He unloaded the back of the bike, checked the ground fqr pebbles and rocks, brushing some aside before unrolling the bedroll, and moved it to where he wanted it, close to the bike. The tarp was made from some oiled canvas. I had thought he would wait for the bike to cool, but he didn’t. With a line from the handlebars and another on the back seat, the other end on the ground, and small stakes, it was all done quickly, efficiently, and impressively. I had never seen this before; others were doing the same, using the bike as a wind shield and protection, some were putting up tents, and a really large tent was near the middle, close to what looked like a fire pit. No fire was burning yet, and men were arriving with sticks and logs so that it wouldn’t be long.
Scones and I headed to the bathroom, Scones talking all the way, about some of the games that would be on this afternoon, while the sun was still up, and later, the floodlights would light the stage area for singing and dancing, and some games would still be played in other lit areas.
This place was unreal, so well thought out. The place was clean, nothing as I had expected. With all these people here, I had expected litter on the ground and dirty toilets, like in many nightclubs, but it was nothing

like that. We waited for the men to come out of the bathroom and, together, headed to the games area. Scones insisted that even if I didn’t join, I should at least watch and learn.
The first stop, after getting a hot dog each, which Scones insisted we all get, was a game that had a belt around your waist, on a very thick elastic rope, anchored to something strong. The idea was to race the person next to you to the beer waiting on a stump at the other end. The closer you get to the beer, the harder it is to run to it, and most get pulled back with the taut elastic rope. It was amusing to see some of the largest, toughest men/not making it to the beer.
Gunner and Demetri were encouraged to have and go. Scones and I are both screaming at our men to go, go, go. It did not surprise me that both made it to the end and scooped up a beer, and Gunner made it a second before Demetri, with his height and long reach used to his advantage. According to the announcer, they were the first to reach the end so far today. Scones and I were jumping up and down, clapping with excitement, and then Scones grabbed my arm.
“Come on, let’s get to our men before some hoe decides they want to latch on to them.” We made it in time to stop a couple of ladies who wanted to celebrate with the winners and soon backed off when we arrived and claimed our men with bruising kisses.
“You won, it was close though.” I cheered, Gunner, and took a sip of the beer he cracked open, after he had sucked up the froth that flowed from the shaken–up drink.
“Demetri was a surprise; I didn’t think he had it in him,” Gunner replied with a grin, pleased that Demetri
made him work for it.
We looked around some more. A game like horseshoe was being played. If you got all three shoes around a stake, you received twenty dollars, but it cost you two dollars for three throws. A lot entered, but few managed to get all three on the metal stake. A chase the Ace was happening too, buy a card, for five dollars, pull, there were a lot of cards in a box, and you chose one and then checked out the board, to see if you won. What prize you may have won, we played that one, I paid my five dollars and so did Scones, and I let her go first, she pulled a nine, a losing card and I pulled a joker, I thought that was a dude too, like since when did jokers win? But it was a winner, and I won the small jackpot. The man handed over one hundred dollars to me, but the major prize was still unclaimed, which was one thousand dollars.
“They make more than the prize money, or the gift costs, because everyone was prepared to pay five dollars for a card, it’s a house win game, it’s rare for the major prize to be won early, and if it is, they just put a second one in, they still make a profit,” Gunner told us, as I walked away happy to pocked my winnings.

The next game was a mud wrestling game, nope, I didn’t even want to watch that one, it looked dirty, and I didn’t want to get mud splashed on me, from getting too close to the action, or more like they fell near us, and mud flew in all directions, Scones got some on her face, and that had us backing out and fast.
Next was like a three–legged race that had us laughing along with the crowd, as some couldn’t manage to run as a couple with three legs; they were tripping over each other, and one guy lifted his woman, so only one leg was moving, she held her other one up, and the crowd called foul. It didn’t look that hard to me, but I wasn’t going to voice that out loud in case we were roped into playing.
More, games were being played like one where you were on the shoulders of your man, and he ran the fifty–yard dash. With Gunner’s long legs and strength, he would win that one easily, but we didn’t join in; it was more fun just watching the others tumble.
