Cora POV

Scones had been miffed all morning over the mess we had to clean up; however, when Oddball agreed that she had every right to be angry and sent the ladies away, you could see the change in her. Scones rarely made a fuss; she was the go-to lady and quietly fixed things, keeping the peace. But now, since meeting Dad, she had begun to change, no longer putting up with other ladies’ crap.

Good for Scones, and getting the president’s approval made it all the sweeter for her.

Dad looked pleased at Oddball’s support.

Lunch started quietly, small talk. We all enjoyed the weekend ride, blew away some cobwebs, and despite how the place was when we returned, the weekend was a positive one. That was till I had almost finished my meal, and then anything I tried to eat afterwards was thick in my mouth and hard to chew.

We talked about the shard of glass I had found and what I thought of it; my gut feeling about what it could be was right, and now I have another job to do that no one else can do for me. I am going to run out of time to do my personal tasks, and it’s becoming frustrating.

I know, I know, club comes first, and this was club safety I was working on, but still I would like some me time too.

They talked some more about the club that the glass shard came from; we need to see if it was planted or part of the glass the people were th

good fight. In the background, men were still throwing out rubbish.

I tuned out the fighting and focused on the area where I found the glass, zooming in close trying to focus in the darkness; this area the floodlight didn’t light up well, it was on the ed of where the light reached, then at last, movement, a man in full black, moved around dropping glass, and something else, what was that? I needed to go back out and look.

“Back in a sec,” I said to Hacker, who was most likely too engrossed in his work to notice

had left.

Slowly, I moved around the area, pushing the small shrubs aside to look beneath them.

I saw the person I had assumed was a man throw something out here.

I was positive.

Then under one of the prickly shrubs, one you wouldn’t like to get too close to, was something that looked to be wrapped in cloth. I reached in.

“OUCH.” I cursed as it stabbed me on my arm, and I reached in to grab the cloth.

It felt heavy, and I think it was a handgun; the shape said it could be.

I put it in a bag and looked around, hunting for anything else before returning to the clubhouse and down the stairs to the cells. This place gave me the creeps; it stunk of urine and blood.

Guards stood outside one and watched me approach.

“Need Oddball, now,” I said, stopping a bit back for the men. The guards looked at each other before one shrugged and opened the door.

A scream came from inside, and the hairs on my arms rose, and I cringed as I imagined what was going on inside.

Oddball came out, closing the door behind him.

“What’s so dam important that you come down here demanding to see me?” He did sound happy, but I didn’t care; I could take this inside and wait for him.

I pulled out the package covered in cloth, and offered it to him.

“What is it?” He asked, on taking it from me, looking at it, like it might bite him.

“The glass was planted, and this was under a bush, close to where the glass was.” I unwrapped the item, and it revealed a handgun.

A few expletives came from his mouth before he took the package, careful not to touch t gun with his hands.

“Guess we are going to have the police visit soon, some anonymous word of gun in bush to pin on us, now we know why they were here, but not why they are targeting us, need to out whose prints are on this gun, and what it was used for, that, might take a bit of investigating,” I suggested, which involved swearing again.

“Who can dig that sort of information out? That’s beyond any of us in the club. We can fin lot of things, but we’ve never had to do prints before.” Oddball asked me, still looking at the

gun.

“Give it to Demetri; they can do that for you. Don’t underestimate him.”

“Demetri, or his men,” Oddball added before giving me the gun back, and I wrapped it back

“Take it, keep it safe. I will send Demetri to collect it later. We are almost finished in this ce I didn’t ask, and I didn’t want to know what that meant. Placing it back in my bag, my gut sa not to place it where it could be found.

I didn’t return to the security room; instead, I had one of the guys take me home.

We had just turned into our drive when police cars started to pass.

Quickly, I pulled out my phone and called Oddball.

“What now!” He shouted over the phone.

“Take the package home with me. Four police cars are arriving at your gate shortly, just past my place in speed.” I hung up, not waiting for a response; hopefully Dad and Gunner will be

safe.

I texted Dad and Gunner, telling them to be safe, that the heat was on its way, to get out of the room, and to clean up.

Dad sent back the thumbs-up emoji.

The driver turned after dropping me off and headed back to the clubhouse; I guess he didn’t want to miss the fun.

“Hello, Cora.” Clara met me as I walked in.

sooner opened the door when Clara knocked and entered with a tray, my coffee and some

cakes on it

“Thankyou, anything I need to know? About to start the wages.” Turning on the computer a looking at Clara as it started up.

“The transportable homes have arrived, the foundations are completed, and they will set to homes tomorrow. The three new ladies are doing well and are fitting in with the others, no injuries to report.”

“Thank you. Anything else?”

“No, that’s all there is to report.” Clara checked her tablet and then looked up at me.

“Give me an hour or two to get the wages done. Then we can talk, maybe work on rosters together, and kitchen meals.” Clara nodded and left, closing the door behind her. I expected more to be said, having been away for a few days; please share anything else when the wages are done.

My phone rang.

“Hello.”

“Police combing the bushes out front, good timing on your behalf, we could have been in ho water if you hadn’t had that gut feeling.” Dad’s voice was soft over the phone.

“Can you do what’s needed with the parcel?”

“Yes, after these men have left, I can’t leave till they are happy.”

As only Dad and Oddball know about the gun, all the other members at the clubhouse honestly answer that they have no clue if questioned. Glad I left and didn’t wait in the security room like Oddball suggested; I had too much to do here, like the wages, to be waiting around for them to be ready for me.

“Stay safe, Dad.”

“Will do.”
