Chapter 144
Gunner POV
My heart broke for Cora. Scrubs looked like he ate lemons as he spoke.
I walked him out.
“Was that the real reason for Cora to be sacked, or was Bluey feeling threatened by someone who could do the job better than she can?” I asked Scrubs as we headed to his car.
“Bluey was on the side of the directors, and I wouldn’t put it past Bluey to have spoken to the directors. I hope this doesn’t spoil it for Cora and the club; she’s a good member.”
“It just might, and if she didn’t want anything to do with the club, it might make it harder for me too.” I spat back, angry at Bluey. I have always been careful about what I talk about around her, because of her loose lips, but this takes the cake.
I watched his bike disappear down the driveway before turning back.
Pulled out my phone and called Marco.
“Machellie,” Marco answered with his singing voice. He sounded in a good mood.
“Hi Marco, Gunner here. Can I have a table for four tonight?”
“Gunner, for you, always, what time?”
“Seven, do?”
“Perfect, want the chef’s special? You bringing that lovely lady with you?”
“Yes, and yes, will have Scones with Cora’s dad and us.”
“Eek, guess you’re out to impress, huh. Will do something extra special for you.” We said our goodbyes and headed in, hoping going out of dinner would make Cora feel better.
They were still in the office; Scones looked better, and her tears had dried up.
Cora looked up at me.
“Dinner booked for seven thirty,” I spoke before Cora could ask.
“Good, not to be honest, it was Bluey, wasn’t it, behind my sacking.” I nodded, but didn’t mention anything else.
“I can do what Hacker needs done from here. I am too angry to want to go to the clubhouse, if I ran into Bluey, I might say something not very nice.”
“Never you are not that sort of person.” Scones laughed at me, causing me to smile
Cora, are you saying you want nothing to do with the club? Or just Bluey?” I asked, shuddering at the thought of having a wife who won’t be part of the club. That would make things very difficult,

don’t know. At the moment, I will help Hacker from here and will stay away till I make up my mind about what I want. This has thrown me harder than I thought it would. If I had known this was going to happen, I would never have purchased a house here.”
“The house is nothing, I can use it for a holiday home, or you can rent it out, plenty of rich people happy to rent out properties like this one. What we can look at is if Gunner is up to it, bring you into my club; that way, Gunner still gets to go on runs and be part of a club and not feel the divided loyalty that this club is about to put him through.” Demetri said, and I looked at him thoughtfully. I thought his club was just the twenty men and him.
“You have a club, Dad, not just a cover?” Cora asked before I could, thinking the same thing.
“Yes, we have two thousand members. I only had the twenty come, so we didn’t scare this club. Plus, they are working; we need these shootings to stop. By the way, they loved the weekend ride and took ideas from some of the games to take back to our club.” Demetri added, which had me smiling. If they have two thousand, imagine the length of the bike line when they go for a ride; my mind boggled at the image it created.
“If things go pear-shaped because of this, then I will take you up on your offer, if Cora wants to join you too, and Scones.”
“I had yet to talk to Scones; I was thinking if we do end up married, then yes, I want you in my club, and I would like to change your road name to something else.” Demetri was staring at Scones, hope in his eyes.
“Yes, even if we just stay together for the sex, I would be happy to join your club.” Scones squealed.
“What, you’ve had enough of the club?” Cora asked, the burning question.
“Yes, you saw those ladies. I have had enough of being seen as a maid, confidant, and complaints department. Time I had more fun like last weekend. I think I deserve it, and so do you.” Now I am churned up. If Cora leaves to be with her dad, can I leave the club, the only family I have ever known?
“Scones, come on, let’s drop all this heavy conversation, and go get changed for our double date.” Cora looped her arm through Scones and dragged her out the door, Demetri hot on their heels. I locked the door behind me and followed them down the hall and up the stairs.
Scones and Demetri entered their room, and Cora waited for me and looped her arm in mine, and headed
to our room.
Cora started when we got in the room, but kicked off her shoes, then stripped on her way to the bathroom leaving a trail of clothes all the way to the bathroom. At the bathroom door, she stopped, twirled her bra and threw it at me, the item hitting me in the face, before I worked out what she was doing. I picked up her clothes and dropped them on the chair, placed her shoes under the chair, stripped off myself, and entered the bathroom.
Cora was there, under the shower, her head tilted back, letting the warm water cascade over her chest and down her body; her face was peaceful.
Gosh, she looked so beautiful; I wish I could capture that moment on film and carry it with me forever because that was perfect. Over time, I know that image may change, but it will always be this perfect
I moved into the shower, standing behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist, and leaning my head on her shoulder and closing my eyes to the water hitting my face.

Chapter 144-
IFL move with Dad, would you come with me?” She asked softly.
That was a huge question.
Would I?
It was the question I had been asking myself since Scrubs informed Cora she was terminated.
“Will you sell this house? You barely started to live here?” Avoiding the question, there were too many factors to answer this one straight away.
“Yes. When I purchased this house, a man contacted me; he was interested in the property. Still, he was too slow in putting in an offer; one of the Cummin’s friends, because of the price, didn’t think anyone would snap it up so fast and thought waiting for the price to come down, they asked if I was to sell, to give them a call, and they would pay full price, or more, if I had made changes. I can contact him and see if he still wants it, and explain the changes and the new price. It won’t be for a few months, because we need to have this shootings problem sorted and the park signed off on. Once that’s over, I can look at moving if we are still interested in getting out of here. This town is full of sad news already, and I haven’t been here long. and I have no reason to have been attached to this house.” I get that: the death of friends, being sacked- that was all sad, and Cora was dealing with it well.
“Give me some time to talk to Demetri, find out more about his club, and what I would be. I don’t expect to be an enforcer, but if I join as a prospect, I don’t want to be that again. It’s not an easy time being the dogs’ body for all the patch members, and not having any recourse to complain about the chores and attitude of members. When I was young, it was bad enough.”
“I understand. For men, it would be more difficult. Dad and his twenty have been around you enough to know your character; being a transfer, you wouldn’t need to do the probation side of it.” Cora is always the optimist. Got to love her for being that way, and not tainted by all her bad times.
“Maybe you are right; perhaps a transfer would cut that side out, and this time together, and being with you as my woman, might give me an easier in. Never thought who I was dating could affect my club status before. Shoes on the other foot, so to speak.”
