Chapter 145
Chapter 145
Cora POV
Gunner sounds a little lost and confused; no way who I am now recognised to be has any bearing on who he is, and his earned status.
“No, you stand on your own merit; who I am doesn’t come into it. No one knows me; I could be a man’s nightmare to strangers. I know that if I do go with Dad, I will not go as I was, but as who I want to be. I won’t be intimidated or bossed around anymore; those days stop today. No more Bluey-type people ruining my life; that woman was too much for me from day one, and all the guys backed her attitude, which to me was all wrong. They have allowed her to evolve into that person. Like a spoilt child who throws tantrums and gets what Preview she wants in the end, that’s not a life for me. I put up with her because I didn’t know any better; no more. Scones warned me, and like her, I put up with it, but I get the feeling that Scones will be a new woman, free of the shackles that club put her in. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great club, and the family vibe is alive and well. You know how to have fun, but they allowed some bad habits to form and might not even see it, but as a newbie, watching from a different point of view, I can see it for what it is.” I was sad for Gunner; he was in a sticky situation.
His answer is important to me.
Will he choose to stay in his club, with the family he knows, or take the risk for me?
It would better define our relationship, for me anyway.
If he chose me, he would be the first man ever to do that, and that in itself for me is huge.
We continued to shower, no hanky panky this time, only some mild groping and heavy pecking, but took it no further.
I changed into a sweet floral sundress, with a light green shawl to go over my shoulders, for the cooler night, the shawl matching the green leaves on the dress; my two-inch heels are bright yellow to match the daffodils on the dress. I am not one to wear stiletto heels; my calves hate them, and I am not into giving myself discomfort just for fashion, although they look good; they are not my style. As a nurse, I never had many chances to wear them and gave up trying after the school prom, where I almost broke my ankle dancing in them: some light makeup, my hair left to hang loosely over my shoulders and down my back. With me no longer working, I might let it grow longer. Still debating about that one.
Gunner looked might fine, he will be beating women off him tonight.
He was premium eye candy.
Black dress pants- I didn’t know he owned a white shirt; he even had a tie on, shiny shoes, not his boots, and his hair was left to hang loose, and I love it like that. He wasn’t wearing his coat, which I thought they never went out without: Guess they can take it off for certain situations; Dad never wears his to meetings or around the house. Didn’t even know it existed until his team arrived, bringing a bike and cut. There are several things I don’t know yet about my father, now I don’t have the pressure of work. I intend to le more about Demetri, first-hand, rather than relying on what I can read online
“You look stunning Gunner extolled, his eyes bright, as they drank me in.
“Not bad yourself, perfect arm candy. Never thought you would dress up so smart, and where’s your cut?!

thought you were not supposed to take it off.”
“Myths, we do not wear them when not representing the club; often, we do not wear the cut in the truck or alone, where we could be targeted, and in this situation, the cut doesn’t suit the look. Can you see the conflict between wearing a suit jacket and the cut? Do I put the cut over the suit or under it? Nope, not a cut situation at all.” I smiled at the joke and the effort Gunner had put in to making this a memorable night.
When we made it downstairs, I told Sonya we were out for dinner, and she didn’t seem surprised. Guess they were used to the previous owners heading out unexpectedly.
A loud whistle came from the side, where Dad and Scones had come down the stairs. Dad was staring at me, and then Gunner. Dad was wearing almost an identical suit to Gunner’s, and Scones was wearing a floral dress, but with blue flowers; she looked stunning. I don’t remember her wearing a dress before, it doesn’t mean that she hadn’t, it just slipped my mind. But Scones definitely didn’t look like this at the club.
“Wow, Scones, you look beautiful,” Gunner said once he lifted his jaw from the floor. Scones blushed and lowered her eyes, and then must have thought better of it and raised them back up. They sparkled from unshed tears, and that made her look even lovelier.
“Ready?” I asked, looking at Scones, for an answer. This was a big step for her, stepping out with Dad, her first time on a date in years.
“Yes, but call me Ruby; that was my birth name. Since things have changed now.” I wonder what Dad and Scones- no, it’s Ruby- talked about for her to drop her club name; it doesn’t shock me, after the way the two of them have hit it off, if Dad offered her a place in his club, as his woman. I bet she would take it nothing was holding her to the club.
These next few weeks, while they work on the shootings, will be telling. Dad and Ruby are already close, though thinking my dad going at it wasn’t high on my list of things I wanted to hear, even though I have already heard them, but I won’t think about that, and now I am rambling on.
We climbed into Gunner’s truck, and he drove us to the restaurant, since he knew where it was. Dad was not yet up to speed on where all the restaurants were, especially those just out of town, and I think he preferred to sit in the back and hold Ruby. Ruby was snuggled up against Dad; he looked happy and content, his arm over her shoulder, and his other hand holding hers in his. I hope that Ruby can give bin what he has missed out on all these years. He can’t make up for the years he has lost out on love, but maybe together they both can have what they both deserve.
Am I jumping the gun a little?
The radio was playing low, a rock station; we didn’t talk, but I didn’t feel any of us needed to fill the gap the restaurant came into view. Gunner found a parking spot near the entrance, and under a light, I noticed that he often chooses to park under a light when he has me with him. Guess it makes it easier for me to lind him, and fewer steal from a vehicle under lights
Gunner killed the motor.
Gunner put his hand on my arm
“Wait for me? Gunner climbed out, quickly moved to my door, and opened it, helping me out of the vehicle I noticed that Dad did the same with Ruby, it was odd calling her that after getting used to Scones
If I get a road name, will it feel this odd?

That’s assuming the Gunner comes with me, that’s a big ask, and I am still up in the air with that myself. At Fleast if I do go, Twill know Ruby, and we could stick together; it sounded like Ruby was going with Dad,
although they have not confirmed it yet.
“Marco, this is Demetri, and his woman Ruby.” Marco had come out from the back to greet us, someone must have told him we had arrived. I think he must have met Ruby before, as he raised an eyebrow when looking at Ruby, but greeted her with the usual air kisses, cheek to cheek, and shook Dad’s hand.
“You look like Cora,” Marco said, as he shook Dad’s hand.
“More like she looks like me.” Dad laughed, slapping me on my back.
“You’re right, Marco chuckled as he turned to lead us to the private room.
“Come this way, I have a room ready for you. It’s good to see you again, Gunner. How have you been?”
“Very busy, you heard about the tyre blowouts.”
“Yes, yes, bad business; hope your team is doing the police’s work for them, better for us if you are.” “Yes, we are; we will get to the bottom of it.”
“Good, good, sleep better knowing you are looking into it, bad for all of us, and for business, people scared to come out.”
