Biker's Claim The Broken Angel is Mine (Cora and Jake) novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54

Gunner POV

Dropping off Cora and leaving her to be with Bluey and Scrubs for the day was hard. I worried about how

she would be if Bluey decided to make things harder for Cora. I was confident she would control herself

and work professionally, but it would make the tension harder. Let’s hope whatever bee was in Bluey’s bonnet would soon fly away.

It’s not like Bluey to be like this.

Something has triggered it. But what?

The morning had hardly started, or that’s how it felt. I had signed off on the payroll and had just finished my first coffee, thinking about what to start next, when at the top of a pile of paperwork were some invoices glaring at me, waiting for me to enter them into the system, when my personal phone rang.

Hello.” I didn’t look at the caller ID; I just picked up my mobile and answered it. I only had club calls on my personal mobile; I had a separate mobile phone for work. I like to keep personal and work separate, which saves me from having customers ask questions about a job outside of hours or when I am not at the

workshop.

Get here, Cora needs you.Scrub’s voice boomed over the phone; as tempting as it was to ask questions, the tone of his voice held my tongue, and I reacted to his request. I called out to my secondincharge for the workshop and told him I was leaving for the hospital. Something urgent had come up, and to take over what jobs I wanted them to complete before tomorrow, the list wasn’t long; the random customer might come in, and what space we had for new bookings.

I climbed on my bike and rode carefully to the hospital, mindful that shooters could be close by. I stuck to the speed limit. We weren’t supposed to ride singly, but being in a group hadn’t helped Skink, and that’s what gave me the balls to break the president’s orders. Plus, travelling alone, I wouldn’t take anyone else out with me, and I am no chicken sheit, I don’t let some guys with guns make me hide away.

I arrived at the hospital and noticed two police cars were parked out front; something had gone down.

My stomach dropped. Was my girl hurt? I know the Emergency department can be dangerous with drunks and high emotions running riot.

No, don’t jump to conclusions, police come all the time, accidents, injured prisoners, complaints, lots of reasons. As much as I gave myself reasons not to panic, it didn’t calm my racing, worried heart. I rushed inside and found Scrubs talking to a family in the waiting room. I looked around and couldn’t see Cora anywhere. When Scrubs had finished talking to the family, he came to me.

Follow me.I didn’t ask any questions, not out there, but not knowing what was going on made me even

more anxious.

Two police officers were in front of a bed. The person in it looked dead. By the way, the man was holding

the sheet up. I couldn’t see who was in bed from there, and that was when I spotted her. Cora. Looking down at the person in the bed.

She’s had a shock, take her home. I will sign her out and sort something out.” I nodded and moved closer to hear them talking about Paul, her stepbrother. When I looked more closely at the man in the bed, the sheet was still not covering his face, and an orderly was holding it up, looking between Cora and the

police.

I knew immediately it was Paul in that bed; his head was bloody, with lots of small cuts, and one very large, gaping wound from his right eye that disappeared into his hairline and down his face, part of the right side of his face was missing.

Where are the other two?

Why are they here?

They should have been home by now, or close to it.

Cora.Cora turned at the sound of my voice, her blotchy, red, wet face to look at me, and the tears flowed harder as she ran to me and wrapped her arms around me, placed her head on my chest, my arms automatically wrapped around her, pulling her in close. I looked over her shoulder at the police as they

watched us.

The others?I asked the police, not needing to say much more, so they would know who I meant.

Alive but critical. You know them?the olderlooking officer asked.

I met them a couple of days ago. I was under the impression they were headed home and should have been close to it by now.”

Why did you meet them?

They came to see how Cora was doing, having recently moved here, to become a nurse at our hospital. I met Cora two months ago, and she’s my girlfriend. Why wouldn’t I meet them?I threw back at them, didn’t need to go any deeper than that, let them go investigate. I had nothing to do with their deaths.

It was the shooter.Cora sobbed softly, but her words hit a chord.

Shooters?I glared at the police. This was all their fault, not believing everyone. When complaints of shooters first started, I wanted to scream and shout at them, but it would do no good, and only upset

Cora.

This is getting out of control. That’s the third death we know of, and who knows how many are injured? When are you going to catch these men or women?I growled out at them. It was getting too dangerous to drive out of town, and we believe our other member, who was walking the footpath, was a result of the shooter hitting a tyre, and the driver losing control, hitting him from behind.

Are you done with Cora? I want to take her home. She just had a bad shock?I asked as I gave them a glare.

Chapter 54-

Yes, we are done. Would you like us to contact your father, or would you like to tell him?

Can you inform him? And the other parents, I don’t think I could talk to them right now.Cora’s tears still hadn’t stopped flowing

We will send some officers to talk to them, and go get some rest. I don’t think we need to ask questions anymore.” The police left. The orderly covered Paul’s face with the white sheet, blocking out his mangled face, and I directed Cora out of the area.
