Chapter 69
Cora POV
Sleep was perfect. Waking up in Gunner’s arms was nice, too, and breakfast was tasty; the service was excellent.
What more could a girl want while finding herself?
The ride home was better than the ride out; the sunrise was gorgeous. I enjoyed feeding Gunner and sharing the water; it was another new experience that added to the enjoyment. Floved that I could talk to him. Gunner said he would need to change stations to talk to his men if a red light appeared on his intercom. I wasn’t concerned‘ if he had to leave me outside the channel; he still had to work while I sat and enjoyed the view, the wind, and the nature that ran through the shrubs.
We made it back quickly; it felt quicker than when we went. Mind you, I wasn’t looking around for a drone that might be in the sky.
The clubhouse arrived, and as expected, my legs were jelly, but I quickly regained my balance, with Gunner
holding me till I nodded that I was fine. It really is an experience we should all have at one stage or another. Even if you are not a bike rider, you should get on the back of one and experience it. It will change you forever, and you will understand being ‘born to ride‘, ‘live to ride‘ and all those other clichés you hear about riders, and the freedom they feel when out on their bikes.
A quick shower and change of clothes, and I headed back down for the meeting. The hall was full of men and women, waiting for whatever was going to be announced. I stood at the back, an outsider watching. Sticks walked by, handed me a coffee, and continued to go to the front to sit at the table at the front, where Oddball and Dozer were waiting, Hacker and Gunner behind them.
Gunner was searching the room. He had a beer in hand, but it didn’t look like he had drunk any yet. His eyes found mine, and a smile formed on his face. He indicated for me to come join in with his head, but I shook my head no. He did it again, and I still said no.
He left the table and went to me.
r
“It wasn’t an invitation you could refuse. Oddball and Hacker want you up there, so you can answer any questions that may be asked, since you know of this, and might be able to explain it better, and not full of the jargon that Hacker tends to waffle on with.” Gunner took my hand and started to walk towards the table. I got the impression that if I resisted, he would pick me up and carry me there, and that would embarrass not just me but him, too. So I let him lead me to the front and stand between him and Hacker “Welcome, good to have a large turnout on such short notice. As you all know, we have shooters about, with the combined efforts of Hacker and Cora, Gunner and a small team took the road where the shootings had occurred, and found that it was possibly a driver. Why was he targeting vehicles of all sizes? We do not know. However, we now have a starting point. Next week, that van will be on the road again, so we will have to stay away from the north road, between our town and Tucks service station. The

need to be in teams has been cancelled. Go about your day as normal. Hacker, can you explain what we have discovered so far?”
“Using drones, we have found some locations where we believe the shooter hides and sleeps overnight. We intend to send teams out next week before the van arrives and set up a welcome party. We need to catch him in the act. I have two possible vans that I will track when they leave their work depot, so next week, be ready to be called in for action if needed.”
“That’s right, I have made a list of names that will be on duty that day. It will take two or three days out in hiding. We want to catch this person and bring them back for questioning. Any questions?” Oddball opened the meeting. Mummers were heard, but no actual questions were spoken out loud,
“No questions?” Oddball called out again.
“Why Cora?” a woman at last asked. Nods of agreement at the question went around the room, and I felt my cheeks heat.
“That’s an easy question to answer. If it weren’t for Cora, we would not know it was a van driver or where to look. It was Cora who had the idea to put all the reports of tyre blowouts into a spreadsheet and refine it until we had areas to look into. We have sent reports to other clubs so they can look into it like we have. So yeah, Cora’s very much part of this.” Hacker jumped in to protect my back, but I didn’t feel the need for protection. I was grateful for it. It was rare for someone to have my back like that. Outside of work, that was, but even then, if a nurse could shift the blame to me, they would try.
“Wow,” was the response. I wasn’t sure what to expect. took a sip of my coffee. It was too strong for my
liking, but I was appreciative that someone thought to make me one. Beggars can’t be choosers.
The talks continued more freely now that that part had been aired, and the questions were easy to answer.
Mind
you, I didn’t have to say a word; between Gunner, Hacker and Oddball, all was sorted quickly. The crowd were no longer giving me the stink eye, and when the meeting was over, many came to shake my
hand and talk to me.
Gunner was stuck at the other end of the room, talking with members, along with Hacker, Oddbail, and was over by the bar, talking to Taser. The music was getting louder, and the bar opened. It wasn’t long
r before it turned into a loud party of celebration, which to me was premature. We haven’t caught the guy yet, and don’t know if it’s just one. I don’t think it is. I think there was more than one, because of the large area that had been covered, but a delivery driver over two weeks could cover a large area, just in my mind, not that big. But no one was listening to me; only Hacker had agreed. Mind you, I hadn’t talked to Gunner about this, but Oddball knew and deliberately didn’t mention it today.
Finger food was brought out. I was starved; we hadn’t had lunch yet, and I headed to the table and picked up a plate, putting chicken nuggets in my mouth as I filled the plate with assortments, and turned to look for Gunner to share the plate with.
I found him where I had last seen him and headed towards him, dodging people who were talking animatedly and nearly knocked the plate out of my hands. As I neared, a woman, girl, whatever, dressed in an outfit that looked three sizes too small, making her assets look like one wrong move, and they would
spill out of the top, and if she bent over, I would see if she was wearing panties Moved to Gunner, grabbed his arm possessively, and it looked like she was rubbing her cleavage on his arm. I stopped in my tracks, my mouth dropping open, and he lowered his head to listen to what she was saying.
I waited for him to push her, away, but he didn’t, he listened to her, nodding his head in agreement to whatever she was saying, giving her his attention. I couldn’t go forward. I was frozen where i stood.
