Chapter 83-
Chapter 83
Gunner POV

The house was just how I remembered it, suited her needs, and I could tell Cora would love it here. If she brought it, it would mean she was making this place her permanent home, and, hopefully, would eventually be wearing my name on a woman’s cut.
Overjoyed that Cora put in an offer straight away, and left to do the paperwork. It didn’t shock me as much as it should that she could pay five million in cash; we had talked about her mother’s death one night, and Cora had mentioned that her mother had provided for her. That told me a lot, but learning about her dad, after all these years, that he had still been sending money to an account she never touched, just thought it was another business deal paying off. That surprised her; the account and money were from her real dad. Cora would have known if she had bothered to dig into her mother’s affairs, instead of putting it all in a
too-hard box.
Yes, Cora continued to look after the business and handle it through online chats and face-to-face video call’s, making decisions. Still, she left the bank accounts, other than the one she used day-to-day, with the accountant to manage and handle the taxes for everything. Hiding away from any truth it might have
revealed.
I hope she doesn’t regret not looking more deeply into this box earlier, which still hasn’t been fully investigated, or into the accounts. Cora could have found her father seven years ago and not gone through all that pain alone. Her uncle would have had less power over her, and less fighting over the
money he lost anyway.
Her uncle had to have known who her father was, and must have been laughing to himself all those years,
being called father, and bringing his real wife in as a newly married man.
I bet he renewed his vows and made it look like he had just married his wife, replacing her mother.
Decieving Cora even more.
I partly blame her mother for not informing her of her real Dad, and for letting the situation grow as it had, for not being honest and sharing what love she had before things went bad. I feel that her mother lived with regret that grew to hate, and steered Cora away from learning anything about her father, while she was still alive. I doubt that her mother had expected to die so soon, or she would have destroyed the
letters.
The stepbrother must have been part of it, playing along and allowing Cora to be misled. Wonder if the best friend and boyfriend were too? Paul could have filled them in, and the trio had a great laugh behind
her back.
That sick, sick family.
All of them. Except for Cora, how she came to be so caring was beyond me, with all the hardship she had gone through; no wonder trust was hard to get. Makes my job of gaining it that much harder when all

those she loved have betrayed her one way or another. Scones will heal her, I know she will, that woman has a heart of gold, and love to share in abundance.
Driving back to the clubhouse, I was joking with Cora about giving Scones the scones. It made me laugh, and it was good to hear Cora giggling too, even though she was trying hard not to. The clubhouse came
into view, and I felt a sense of sadness and nostalgia. If Cora lets me move in with her, this will no longer
be home; it will be a place to come to be with my club friends and work when not at the bike shop in town.
I am having mixed feelings. I want to be with Cora; at the same time, leaving the only home I have truly
called home was pulling at me, too.
We made it back and headed to the kitchen together first, and found Scones doing the prep work for
dinner.
“Hey, Scones! I got you some homemade scones.” I chuckled as Gora rolled her eyes again.
Scones squealed in delight.
“Scones for me? No one had brought me scones before.” Scones’ reaction was so good, her eyes lit up,
and she dried her hands on her apron, moving to open the container and check the,
“These are good.” Scones complimented Gunner as she pulled one apart, inspecting how soft and fluffy it
was. Scones grabbed some cream and topping and soon was eating scones with strawberry and cream.
“Have one.”
“He has already eaten half a dozen; it was hard to keep his hands off them, he would have eaten the lot,”
Cora said as she pushed my hand away from taking one.
“Thank you, Cora, for saving some for me.” Scones smiled and winked at Cora.
“Hey, what about me? Don’t I get a compliment too? I didn’t eat them all.” Not that I could, but Scones
doesn’t need to know that.
“Of course, my boy, you too, thankyou for not eating them all, these are good, taste like Mrs Cummins scones, I have brought her a few times, at the cake stalls, we have to raise money, she make better once than me, not sure what her secret is, but they are the best in town, wins awards at the fair often.”
“You’re right, they are Mrs Cummins’s scones. I was there today, looking at her home.”
“Oh! You buying it? I heard they were looking to move to a small place in town, but they would be buying more about looking around the house, than actually being able to afford it. Broke Mr Cummins’ heart each time, he got a silly offer, or just sightseers. They love that property.”
“Cora, put a deposit down today, we move in on Friday, or Saturday, the Cummins will move out over the
next two days?” I jumped in, most likely spoiling Cora’s surprise.
“That’s excellent news, you will love it there, a peaceful place, the stream that runs into the main river runs through the back of the property, plenty of room to grow and entertain if you are into that type of thing, although you would have more than enough here at the club, with you coming on club days.” Scones

looked so happy that Cora was buying the house, almost as if Scones knew Cora wouldn’t like living here permanently. It’s a great place, and Cora loves the people, but she’s too shy in a lot of ways, naive, I guess; she loves her freedom too much. Although we don’t have many here, being around people all the time, as a job, you want to come home to peace, to unwind. I have seen it in Scrubs and Bluey, both of which need downtime, and you don’t get much of that here.
“Have you told Oddball?” Scones asked as she polished off the last of the scone she had added cream
and strawberry to.
“Not yet, you are the first to know.” Scones face brightened even more with that piece of news.
“Ooo, I know someone who is going to be soooo jealous, thank you for giving me that. Go tell Oddball.” Scones dismissed us from her kitchen, scooping up the container and hiding it away in the cupboard.
Oddball was not back yet, for his court case, so we headed upstairs to start packing, we can put away most of it, and keep what we need for the next few days, the settlement won’t be a week or so, but the Cummins can move into theirs straight away, and had offered Cora the keys to move in before settlement,
as they don’t need it, and the day Cora moves in, a staff meeting has been organised, so they can meet
Cora, their new boss, and sign new work place agreements, it will be virtually the same as before or so I believe, who knows Cora might add a few changes, but I will have to wait and see, it’s her home and hers
to do as she pleased, I will be her bed warmer, I don’t want my name on the deed, it’s hers, she paid for it,
Cora needs something to fall back on, to feel secure and safe, and not worry someone will come and take
it from her. I understand she had money, but that doesn’t make a house a home, and I want that for her, to
feel she has a home, full of love and laughter, but first, I still need her to trust me.
We had most of it packed and set aside, ready to go to her new home. It was time to see if Oddball was
back and, hopefully, in a good mood. If he lost our happiness, it might be the last thing he would want to
see.

Chapter 84
Cora POV
It’s done, can’t wait to tell Oddball.
Claim
I feel better about Dad having his own room in my home than about him having one here. Once he walks
through that door, all those who idolise him will swamp him and want his attention. Call me selfish, but I
would like to get to know my dad without the pressure of the club wanting his attention too. I don’t want
that competition, and I hope he feels the same way. We will come here and let him meet the club
members, Oddball, and Dozer. I think he would love Scones; she’s around his age, in her forties, and has
been alone since her man died in an accident ten years ago. I was told he was a good mari, a club man,
who treated everyone as his mate. It’s hard to find people who have someone’s back and give the support needed, as this club does. I don’t know if other clubs run like this one, but it does my jaded heart good to
know there are poeple out there who care.
Oddball was in his office, and most of the files that were on his desk earlier were gone.
“Cora, Gunner, how did it go? Cora, do you like the house? It’s amazing, isn’t it?” Oddball rambled on as he
finished putting away some files and paperwork.
“Okay, let’s start with, Hello, very well, love it, and yes, it’s amazing,” I answered with a cheeky grin.
“Huh? Oh, sorry, was rabbiting on, mind still on the case.”
“Did you win?”
“Yes, need some follow-up work later, but the ruling handed down was a win.”
“Congratulations,” Gunner said, moving forward to shake his hand.
“Did you buy the house?” Oddball asked as he leaned back on his desk.
“Yes, how could I not? It’s perfect, plenty of space to grow, and some peace and quiet to relax after a hard
day.” I said, knowing that what I would need most would be a double shift, that coming back, tired, to a
୮ raging party would not be to my liking, even with soundproof rooms.
“Congratulations, and I might put my hand up for one of those rooms, not to stay permanently, but for
when I have a court case coming up, I need the quiet to concentrate. What about it, would you let me rent
a room?”
“What? No Way? I won’t take money from you. You can come anytime. Call it payback for putting up with
me all this time, I know I can be cranky at times.”
“What cranky woman, I’ve never seen you cranky yet, emotional? Yeah, but you had every right to be, you have all the club members eating out of your hand in less than a day.” We laughed as we talked about us moving, and him taking a room when he needed space.
“Will Strike be coming with you on those days, you want to say here?” Gunner asked, I had completely

forgotten about whether she would come, when he said he needed quiet, I just assumed.

“Try and keep her away, she has me on a short leash. When Sticks finds out you have that house, and I can
have sleepovers, she will be on my case till I cave and agree for her to come, so it’s best we include her
now, save us all that hassle,” All three of us bust out laughing. We could picture Sticks pouting till Oddball caved in. He has that soft spot for her, and she knows how to play it. Don’t get me wrong, Oddball can
have you quaking in your shoes if he says no to a club member, but then Sticks knows what battles were worth fighting over and which ones he will give in to, and who knows what she does behind closed doors
to make him change his mind.
I like all the club members; they keep me smiling and laughing as I watch them. Most of the patch
members are great to be around, treating me like I’m seen. That’s important to me. Never making me feel
unworthy or small. After dinner, and the news was shared, dibs for Gunners’ room went around, making
Oddball rub his temples as if he was gaining a headache. It was funny, they all assumed that Gunner was
moving in with me, even though we never said, given that he was my boyfriend, it was a given that he would move in with me. I didn’t mind, not really.
We sat out on the balcony, for maybe the last time here, and called my father on FaceTime. It was picked
up on the first ring.
“Cora, my baby, how are you?”
