Joshua’s eyes zeroed in on the little boy trailing behind Xylia, the one calling her “Mommy.”
Joshua narrowed his eyes slightly.
Joshua couldn’t help but think, ‘Why does this kid look so familiar?‘

‘Wait a second, isn’t this kid basically a tiny clone of that guy from the hospital–the one who said he was Xylia’s ex?‘ he thought.
‘Wait, did that kid just call Xylia “Mommy“?‘ Joshua thought, totally thrown off.
When Xylia heard Sonny’s voice, she pressed her fingers to her forehead, her head starting to throb.
Jupiton’s such a big city, so why do I keep bumping into the Ford father and son all the time?‘ she thought, feeling annoyed.
She really didn’t want to talk to Sonny right now.
But of course, Sonny walked right up to her, looking super excited as he called out, “Mommy!” again.
Then Sonny turned to Joshua and, unexpectedly well–behaved, called out, “Uncle Aaron.”
Xylia was taken aback.
‘It’s been ages–when did Sonny get so polite with Joshua?‘ she wondered.
Joshua, meanwhile, wasn’t impressed in the slightest. He didn’t even bother to reply, just shot Sonny a cold, indifferent glance.
Sonny, for his part, didn’t think anything of it.
Joshua was always cold to him before, anyway.
Sonny turned back to Xylia, his eyes shining with excitement.
“Mommy, I’m out with my new teacher today, just hanging out. Can we join you for dinner?” he asked eagerly.
Xylia followed Sonny’s gaze and spotted a girl in a floral dress heading their way.
The girl flashed Xylia a bright smile.
“Hi! You must be Sonny’s mom, right? I thought so–he looks just like you, and you’re both so pretty, she said.
The girl was super sweet, and she couldn’t be more than twenty–two or twenty–three.
Her skin was fair and flawless, her features delicate, and her brows and eyes had this cute, playful vibe that made her look both charming and a bit naive.
Sonny took the girl’s hand and introduced her to Xylia.
“Mommy, this is my new art teacher, Ms. Chloe Campbell,” he said,

Sonny had been much better lately, not lashing out like he used to.
Even though he kept calling her “Mommy,” Xylia didn’t bother correcting him anymore.
Xylia smiled and greeted Ms. Campbell.
“Hi, you don’t have to stand on ceremony with me. Just call me Xylia,” Xylia said.
Chloe caught Joshua out of the corner of her eye, then smiled at Xylia as she spoke.

“Sonny’s mom, what are you saying? You’re Sonny’s mother–how could I just call you by your name?” she replied.
Her voice was gentle and delicate, but her words carried a definite sting.
Xylia studied her for a moment, but didn’t say anything.
Joshua, however, caught every word. His face grew even colder, his gaze turning icy.
Xylia let Chloe’s words hang in the air, not responding at all.
Sonny shot them a look, then turned to Xylia, eyes full of hope.
“Mommy, can we?” he asked.
Xylia knew exactly what he meant–he wanted to share a table with them.
She didn’t answer Sonny’s question right away. Instead, she asked, “Why are you guys here?”
Sonny rubbed the back of his head, looking a little sheepish.
He decided to come clean.
“Dad’s got my schedule packed with classes–I can barely breathe. So I begged Ms. Campbell to take me out for some fun,” he admitted.
“We were just hanging out and somehow ended up at this food street.”
Sonny wasn’t really interested in the snacks here and was ready to leave, but since Chloe was into it, he went along with her.
He never expected to run into Xylia here.
He was so excited that he didn’t even think twice before rushing over to say hi.
Xylia nodded, letting him know she understood.
But she turned Sonny down when he asked if they could join for dinner.
“Why don’t you two go enjoy yourselves? We’ve got plans, so we can’t join you for dinner,” Xylia said.
Sonny’s disappointment was plain to see–his head drooped, and he looked genuinely heartbroken.
Chloe gently took his hand when she saw him like that.
She smiled at Xylia.
“Sonny’s mom, even if you and Mr. Ford are divorced, Sonny’s still your own child. Isn’t it a bit harsh to treat him like this?”

she said.
Xylia locked eyes with Chloe, and those clear eyes were loaded with blame.
Xylia just smiled.
Who I’m cold to isn’t your problem,” she said, her tone sharp.
Chloe had wanted to talk things out with Xylia, but she hadn’t expected her to be so ruthless.
Her face went cold in a flash, and she shot Xylia a look full of obvious disdain.
Chloe acted like Xylia was the worst mom ever.
‘Sonny’s my student now, and as his teacher, I have to make sure he’s okay in every way,” Chloe said.
Xylia wasn’t even fazed by Chloe’s attitude. She just said flatly, “If you care so much, then take him and go.”
Chloe hadn’t expected Xylia to be so cold.

Come on, that’s her own kid–he’s so little and so sweet, and he just came up to say hi. She didn’t even spare him a kind ook, Chloe thought, feeling a wave of annoyance.
Not even a hint of warmth, Chloe thought, shaking her head in disbelief.
What a cold–hearted mother,‘ Chloe thought, her eyes full of judgment.
She turned to Sonny, her gaze instantly filled with pity and concern.
Sonny, if your mom’s going to be so ruthless, then come with me. I’ll take you out for some good food and fun times. Whatever your mom can do for you, I can do for you too,” Chloe said, her voice gentle and comforting.
she couldn’t help but throw shade at Xylia with every word.
Sonny frowned, his little face scrunching up.
Something dark flickered in Sonny’s eyes, and his voice went icy.
Sonny snapped, “Who said you could be my mom? I only have one mom! If she doesn’t want to eat with me, she must have her reasons. You have no right to judge her!”
Chloe flinched, clearly stung by Sonny’s words.
Chloe was stunned–the kid was always so sweet, but now he was talking back like that.
But I was just trying to help him, Chloe thought, feeling a bit betrayed.
“Sonny, you…” Chloe tried to say, wanting to explain herself.
But Sonny just ignored her, not even sparing her a glance.
