Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 111

Raelynn finally glanced over at her seat. It was true. From Seraphina's angle, the splashing water would have easily caught her. So, Sebastian pulling Raelynn out of the way wasn't so much about saving her; it was about using her as a human shield to prevent Seraphina from getting burned.

"So that means Mr. Croix pulling Ms. Ortiz over was basically using her to block the boiling water for Ms. Vance..." the faint whispers echoed around the room.

It was like a needle, piercing right through the facade of their so-called decency.

Seraphina's expression softened instantly. Sitting beside Sebastian, she gazed at his strikingly handsome profile with a sweet, helpless smile. "Sebastian, you just panicked because you care. I'm completely fine."

Sebastian wiped the water from his elegant, long fingers. He offered her a faint, reassuring smile. "As long as you're okay."

Raelynn turned away. She figured there was no need to stand there and watch their sickeningly sweet display of affection. There was no apology, nor was there a thank you. She walked back to her seat and stared at the cup of fruit tea resting in front of her. Throughout the entire two-hour discussion, she hadn't taken a single sip.

After all, this was her husband's tender affection meant for another woman. She hadn't earned it, so she wouldn't accept it.

Once the meeting wrapped up, Raelynn just wanted to go back and rest. She said a quick goodbye to Preston and left first. She didn't bother pretending to care about Sebastian's burn either. He had gotten hurt for Seraphina's sake. What was the point of flattering herself?

As soon as she got upstairs, she collapsed onto the bed. Thank God Alistair didn't know her cramps were this severe, otherwise, he would have forced her to choke down a regimen of bitter herbal medicine. She absolutely couldn't stomach that.

She buried herself under the covers and slept late into the afternoon, waking up absolutely ravenous. The room had already grown dark. Inside the sprawling, two-thousand-square-foot suite, it was dead silent. A suffocating wave of loneliness washed over her, leaving her mind blank for a long while.

Sebastian hadn't come back. He was probably busy keeping Seraphina company.

Then, she saw a missed call from Matilda Croix. Raelynn pulled herself together and dialed back.

"Lynnie, we're having our New Year's Eve Dinner at eight. Sebastian said he'll bring you down. You two have been together all day, right?"

Raelynn stared around the empty room. She didn't bother exposing Sebastian's lie. "Yes, he told me."

"Good. Freshen up and come down. Your mother-in-law and Aunt Brenda are both here."

Raelynn rolled her eyes internally. "Doctors also say having a baby fixes it, but that hasn't..."

Her voice caught in her throat. The cramped entryway suddenly felt thick with tension, leaving only the sound of their quiet breathing. A jolt of panic shot through her, and her first instinct was to backtrack and explain.

When she looked up, the overhead light flickered. Sebastian stood there, the sharp lines of his jaw illuminated in the dimness. He looked down at her, his dark eyes unreadable. After a long silence, he let out a short, sharp scoff.

"You don't need to drop hints. There are a million ways to treat it. But as for having a child, don't bring it up again."

Raelynn felt a massive lump form in her throat. Her heart, which had been racing out of fear that he might suspect her past pregnancy, was completely crushed into an icy abyss by his cold rejection.

Sebastian turned and walked toward the door. As his hand grasped the handle, Raelynn's eyes immediately locked onto the back of his burned hand. It had clearly been treated and covered with a clean white medical dressing.

But right there on the pristine white fabric—was a vibrant smudge of lipstick.
