"Raelynn, this is assault! I could even press attempted murder charges against you!"
Raelynn slowly peeled her hand out of Sebastian's grasp, recoiling from his touch as if he were venomous. "Go ahead. Get a medical evaluation. I'll wait for the lawsuit."
Annoyance and mockery flared in Seraphina's chest.
Was Raelynn calling her bluff because she knew a public figure like her couldn't afford a scandal?
Sebastian watched Raelynn pull away in silence.
Even with his expression completely guarded, Raelynn knew exactly what that dark look meant—he was mentally reprimanding her for being unreasonable and disrespecting his precious soulmate.
After soothing Shane, Seraphina strode over and planted herself firmly by Sebastian's side. She didn't offer Raelynn an apology. Instead, she looked only at him. "I'm sorry. Shane is just young and impulsive, but he has a good heart. I know you understand that."
She had no desire to speak to Raelynn.
It was entirely beneath her.
Sebastian slowly shifted his gaze from Raelynn's face. "Yeah. They're just photos."
Raelynn's heart skipped a painful beat.
He turned to look at the blazing metal drum, the warmth of the fire completely failing to reach his eyes. "If they're burned, they're burned."
That careless, dismissive phrase hit Raelynn harder than the freezing night air. She stared at his sharply sculpted profile, the sheer apathy radiating from him piercing her skin like a thousand icy needles.
Seven years. A seven-year marriage that now felt like a long, hollow dream.
If you fed a stray dog for seven years, it would show you fierce loyalty.
But when a man didn't love a woman, seven years—or even a lifetime—of pouring her heart out meant nothing. To him, she was just a burden. A stone that could never be warmed.
"My brother-in-law said it doesn't matter! The photos don't matter, and you don't matter!" Shane gloated, pointing a triumphant finger at Raelynn.
That phrase: *You don't matter.*
A faint, satisfied smirk touched Seraphina's lips.
Her brother was just speaking the truth, after all.
Raelynn needed to hear it.
Taking advantage of the moment, Shane lunged for the remaining frames on the ground, ready to toss them into the flames.
Seraphina didn't stop him.
But Raelynn moved. She turned and walked toward the burning drum.
Seraphina instantly yanked Shane back to her side, suddenly on high alert.
In her eyes, Raelynn was a bitter, rejected woman on the brink of snapping.
