Raelynn understood instantly.
So this was the endgame.
Pretending not to call the police was just giving her enough rope to hang herself. In reality, Seraphina wanted her kicked out of NexusMind Technologies.
"What she means is, if NexusMind doesn't fire you, she won't return to Kingsford University to finish the final phase. And the blame for the delayed progress will fall squarely on your shoulders."
Seraphina's exact words were: "Firing a low-level researcher is a small price to pay to save Mr. Moreno from a massive headache. Raelynn's departure won't affect our joint project in the slightest."
A low-level researcher?
Raelynn was Faye, the mastermind behind Digi-Medica's ultimate database. She was the one controlling the entire pharmaceutical process for this cardiovascular joint project.
A mere team member wanted to kick out the core leader?
Had Sebastian's endless pampering really made Seraphina this arrogant?
Raelynn wasn't even surprised anymore.
In a twisted way, she and Seraphina were actually on the same page.
She looked at Preston. "She's been dragging her feet for a while now. According to the original contract, she's already committed a severe breach. We can communicate with Kingsford University and have her removed."
If Seraphina wanted to throw her weight around, Raelynn would gladly grant her wish.
Preston immediately caught on.
After a moment of thought, he chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "Professor Finch carries a lot of weight at Kingsford. I'll just mention this to him. He's already furious that Seraphina's brother injured Lily. Having the Professor make the call will save us a lot of trouble."
It would prevent Kingsford from dragging their heels just because Sebastian was their investor.
Raelynn agreed.
Every action had consequences.
She just hoped her rival was ready to face them.
-
Seraphina was in no rush to be discharged from the hospital.
She wasn't even badly injured.
She was simply waiting for NexusMind's response.
"It doesn't matter. Once she's fired, she'll be out of my sight," Seraphina said, slowly curling her lips into a smile as she flipped through a medical textbook.
Blanche finally smiled with satisfaction. "True. She could live another lifetime and still never compare to you."
Seraphina's phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the screen.
It was the director from Kingsford University.
She assumed he was calling with the good news of Raelynn's termination, begging her to return to finish the project.
She answered the call gracefully.
"Ms. Vance, I'm very sorry, but our collaboration must be terminated," the man said regretfully. "The principal personally intervened. You are no longer required to participate in the final clinical trials."
Seraphina's expression froze.
"What do you mean?"
"You've been kicked off the project team. This isn't a discussion; it's a notification."
