The lobby of the inpatient ward was bustling with people. The crisp spring air wasn't as biting as it had been, and Raelynn walked with her eyes downcast, deep in thought.

Chloe chattered furiously the entire way. "Seraphina is only pinning this on you because she knows the cameras are down! You think she doesn't know it was Brenda who pushed her? The second Brenda shifted the blame, Seraphina aimed right for you. That woman is a manipulative, toxic snake!"

Raelynn knew that.

"At the end of the day, from an outsider's perspective, you have way more reason to hate her than I do. Seraphina was only engaged to my Cameron; they never actually tied the knot. But you? Seven years of marriage, only to have her steal your husband. That's a massive humiliation. People are far more likely to believe you snapped out of pure jealousy than believe I tried to kill her."

Brenda had sobered up immediately after the incident. Injuring Seraphina meant touching Sebastian's precious treasure. She couldn't afford to gamble on whether Sebastian would show mercy to his aunt.
