On the drive back, Raelynn and Preston reviewed the situation.
Hospitals strictly adhered to privacy protocols, meaning patient wards didn't have security cameras.
What made things tricky was that the traditional medicine ward was only separated from the clinical trial center by a single hallway.
The trial center's cameras were placed cautiously as well, effectively turning the area outside Shane's room into a blind spot.
This accusation of attempted murder was going to be incredibly difficult to wash off.
"Every single dose of our experimental drug is strictly logged. You have to file a request to get it; not just anyone can sneak it out of the lab," Preston noted. "Yet Shane ended up ingesting it. This was entirely targeted at you and NexusMind. I doubt it was a simple 'accident'."
Raelynn nodded. "It's way too precise. And since I actually have a history of conflict with Seraphina and Shane, everyone will naturally assume I'm the one who did it."
The entire setup was designed to ruin her life.
Leaving zero room for outsiders to question its legitimacy.
"If this gets out, the fallout will be massive. Covenant will be thrust into the center of a medical malpractice scandal, and NexusMind's drug might get suspended," Preston frowned. "Especially now, during our financing stage. We can't afford any negative PR, or the financial losses will be catastrophic."
Raelynn knew this was a calculated ambush meant to choke her out.
When there were too many coincidences...
Could they still be called coincidences?
Though she wasn't panicking, she did feel apologetic. "Preston, at the end of the day, this is my fault. Covenant and NexusMind are catching stray bullets because of me."
Even if Seraphina didn't dare openly offend Covenant Medical, they would still suffer collateral damage.
Preston flicked her forehead. "You're not the one at fault here, so drop the guilt trip."
Raelynn finally managed a faint smile.
"But Seraphina didn't account for the fact that you're not just some junior researcher. You're the lead director. With your seniority, you'd get the credit even if you never set foot in the clinical center. You only go there out of pure dedication."
Preston scoffed.
The fact that they hadn't publicly revealed her true title had completely thrown a wrench into the enemy's plans.
Right now, Seraphina was probably celebrating, thinking Raelynn had finally been "kicked out" and stripped of her accreditation.
"We need to control the PR and keep things quiet for now. The hospital might not have security cameras, but..." Raelynn remained completely composed. "Chloe's documentary crew has their cameras set up. Since Seraphina stepped away from the project early on, she has no idea where those cameras are positioned. The footage will give us a very clear answer on who did this."
Preston looked surprised.
