Julian was speaking from a position of absolute privilege, conveniently forgetting that she was a human being.
A person with dignity and principles.
Beg Sebastian?
Not a chance in hell.
She locked her phone, completely ignoring the message.
The next day.
Raelynn went back to the Covenant clinical center.
She had been running research here for so long that she still had plenty of data to export.
She needed to get it sorted.
Through Preston, she got the internal scoop on Shane's condition.
He had indeed suffered acute anaphylaxis.
His airways had constricted, and a slightly higher dose would have been fatal.
Fortunately, Shane was much heavier than the average kid his age, so his resistance was stronger. The damage wasn't critical.
By the time she returned to NexusMind.
And reached the lobby.
She spotted a familiar Maybach parked outside the adjacent office building.
Sebastian stepped out of the car, greeted by a group of executives from the neighboring company, all wearing respectful, fawning smiles.
By sheer coincidence.
Sebastian glanced up and locked eyes with Raelynn standing outside the NexusMind building.
The two of them stared at each other from a short distance away.
The man's features were cold and aristocratic, making him stand out brilliantly in the crowd.
Raelynn suddenly remembered Julian's "advice" from the previous night.
Telling her to beg Sebastian.
And here they were, running into each other today.
She withdrew her gaze and walked straight into the NexusMind building, treating him like a complete stranger.
Beg him?
He wished.
If she could solve a problem on her own, she wasn't going to grovel to her soon-to-be ex-husband.
And even if she couldn't solve it, she still wouldn't bow her head to him.
Raelynn's retreating figure was sharp and indifferent.
Sebastian watched her for a brief two seconds before turning and entering the building next door.
-
The moment Raelynn stepped off the elevator.
And headed for the lab.
Preston intercepted her.
A car pulled up, completely blocking her path.
The door swung open.
Luke Sterling stepped out on his long legs.
He leaned against the car door, looking at Raelynn. "I heard NexusMind's new project hit a roadblock. Having major financing issues?"
Raelynn just stared at him in silence.
Because he looked entirely like he was here to enjoy the show.
Luke wasn't oblivious to her icy reception.
A flicker of irritation went through him, but he quickly told himself not to sweat the details.
Striding over to her, he leaned in slightly. "I can inject millions of dollars into NexusMind, but on one condition."
Raelynn gave him a surprised look.
She never expected that the one person bold enough to invest during this massive PR crisis would be Luke.
And dropping millions right off the bat?
Taking in her stunned expression, Luke stared at her face. His gaze lingered on her vibrant red lips for two seconds. "Raelynn, I want you to go on a date with me."
Raelynn blinked.
Footsteps echoed from a short distance away.
She glanced over.
Once again, she made eye contact with Sebastian, who was just walking out of the neighboring company's building.
