Seraphina pressed her lips together. "Mr. Moreno, it's my brother who is in danger. I hope you can understand my anxiety. I don't want to demand an explanation from Covenant Medical Center or the Vasquez family, but the nature of this incident is abhorrent. If this blows up, the negative PR will be disastrous for Covenant, and it will be a fatal scandal for NexusMind's current clinical trials. Once a company is labeled as having no respect for human life, even if the drug hits the market, who would buy it?"
Hearing this, clarity finally broke through the fog in Raelynn's mind.
So, Seraphina's real angle was...
"I will give you and Covenant Medical face and keep my mouth shut to minimize the damage," Seraphina said, turning a mocking gaze toward Raelynn. "But..."
"NexusMind's surgical robot project is currently seeking investors. This kind of scandal would deal a massive blow to the new project and cause huge financial losses if the financing falls through. I want you to kick Raelynn off the project team, forbid her from participating in the rest of the clinical trials, and strip her name from the drug's credits. If possible, I'm willing to step in at NexusMind and help finish the final stages of the work."
Raelynn let out an unsurprised scoff.
So this was the trap.
She wanted to use this opportunity to steal the credit for the drug.
What a calculated scheme.
Preston's expression was grim.
Even a man as famously even-tempered as him felt a lump of anger in his throat.
This move left him with absolutely no other options.
It was a precision strike!
"Fine. I can step down."
Raelynn didn't even attempt to argue.
Her response was so blunt and immediate that the entire hallway fell into a dead silence.
Sebastian's thumb paused over his lighter, his gaze locking onto Raelynn's face.
Julian's expression shifted. "Are you sure you've thought this through, Raelynn? You're just a junior researcher. To get your name on the credits, you have to follow the project all the way to the end. Are you really throwing that away?"
If she were an executive with decision-making power like Preston, it would be a different story.
But at NexusMind, she had no leverage.
They were right on the verge of a breakthrough—was she really going to just give it up?
Raelynn ignored Julian entirely and stared straight at Seraphina. "Me stepping down isn't an admission of guilt. I'm doing it to ensure the drug project can wrap up without delays. If you want to pin Shane's incident on me, you'd better slap some hard evidence on my face. Otherwise, stop spewing garbage in front of me."
