Raelynn was completely caught off guard by the disaster.
Her original plan was to finish the virtual meeting with NexusMind Technologies alongside Preston, and then head straight to her date.
Who could have predicted a kid would tackle her into the pool?
It triggered a massive fever, and the cold medicine knocked her out like a tranquilizer.
Raelynn tried to gather her chaotic thoughts. She glanced at the clock and threw off the covers. "Can I borrow your phone?"
She needed to let Luke know what happened. Even if she showed up late, she still had to go.
Hundreds of millions of dollars were on the line. This wasn't a game.
"No," Sebastian replied smoothly, his rejection swift and uncompromising.
It took her exactly one second to figure out why.
Even when they were married, she had never been allowed to look at his phone.
Now that things were so serious between him and Seraphina, his phone was undoubtedly filled with intimate messages.
Of course he wouldn't hand it over to her.
Raelynn glanced at the hotel landline on the nightstand, accepting his refusal easily. "Fine. You have Luke's number. Please read it to me."
This time, Sebastian didn't refuse. He pulled out his phone.
Before he even unlocked it, it started ringing.
He looked at the caller ID, then looked directly at Raelynn.
He answered it right in front of her.
"Sebastian? Are you with Raelynn?" Matilda Croix's voice echoed through the room.
Sebastian put it on speaker. "Yes. I am."
His dark, piercing eyes stayed fixed on Raelynn.
It was a silent warning: *Don't forget we're pretending the divorce never happened.*
Left with no choice, Raelynn spoke up. "Grandma."
Matilda's tone instantly brightened. "See? I knew you two would be together! Today is a special day, Raelynn. It's your birthday! I'm glad Sebastian had the sense to drop his work and keep you company. Are you two at home? Or out for dinner?"
Raelynn suddenly remembered.
It *was* her birthday.
But Matilda was completely misguided.
Sebastian hadn't remembered her birthday at all. They were only in the same room because of a near-drowning incident.
"Fine," Sebastian agreed without hesitation.
He clearly wanted to be done with this charade just as badly as she did.
He filmed Raelynn sitting on the bed for two seconds to prove they were together, then panned to the gorgeous view outside the window.
He hit send.
Matilda replied almost instantly: *"You're at our hotel? Perfect. I'll take care of the rest."*
Satisfied he had handled the old woman, Raelynn grabbed fresh clothes and headed for the shower.
She still had to meet Luke.
She got ready in record time.
But when she stepped out of the bedroom, the suite door was wide open. A line of hotel staff was rolling carts straight toward The Sky Garden on the terrace.
She followed them outside.
The rooftop had been transformed. A breathtaking dining table was set up, surrounded by lavish arrangements of Blue Tulips, making the whole scene impossibly romantic.
Sebastian sat at the table, his fingers moving rapidly as he texted someone.
Hearing her approach, he glanced up. "Check the menu. See if you want to add anything else."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
