Those words hit Seraphina right where it hurt the most.
All the color drained from her lips in an instant.
Raelynn turned and walked away.
If she had harbored any doubts about Seraphina's capability for such ruthlessness before, she was certain now.
Seraphina was far more cold-blooded than she had imagined.
She was willing to sacrifice everything for her own ambition.
The upcoming audits of the clinical drug inventory, the theft of NexusMind's classified formulas, the medical incident at Covenant, and the subsequent defamation of the hospital's reputation...
When added up, the charges against Seraphina were severe.
It would be a lengthy legal battle.
But her fate was sealed.
The next morning, Raelynn woke up and texted a quick 'good morning' to Lily.
Then, Preston called.
"Come to the office. Sebastian Croix is here."
Raelynn's heart tightened suddenly.
It wasn't exactly a surprise, but it still...
Left a bitter taste in her mouth.
She got ready quickly.
When she arrived at Preston's office, she saw Sebastian sitting elegantly on the sofa.
His suit jacket was unbuttoned, the dark vest clinging to his lean torso. At the sound of her footsteps, he slowly lifted his gaze and met her eyes.
Preston spoke up. "Raelynn is the victim here. Mr. Croix, if you're here to plead for Ms. Vance, you should talk to her."
Raelynn knew exactly what Preston was doing.
He was intentionally forcing Sebastian to lower his head to her.
Sebastian didn't seem fazed. He simply adjusted his posture. "Name your terms for NexusMind to drop the lawsuit."
Raelynn scoffed.
He really didn't waste any time on pleasantries.
"You're very generous, Mr. Croix. Defending a woman who would stab her own flesh and blood in the back. You hold her so tight," she retorted sarcastically.
Was this true love?
Even knowing she was toxic, he was perfectly happy to clean up her mess.
Loving every part of her, even the absolute worst parts.
What a profound, ocean-deep devotion.
Sebastian tilted his chin up, completely ignoring her blatant sarcasm. "If you drop the case and let this go, I'll invest a billion dollars into NexusMind's financing round."
