The implications were staggering.
Raelynn frowned. "Are you saying she orchestrated the whole thing herself?"
"Think about it. Why was the dosage so precise? It didn't endanger the kid's life, but it looked severe enough to halt our drug launch, sabotage NexusMind's financing, and drag Covenant into the mess. She just couldn't handle being kicked off the team and missing out on the project. So she pulled this stunt to force her way back in and steal the credit."
And she played the gracious victim, not calling the cops, not suing, and not making a public scene.
She made Covenant Medical feel indebted to her.
It was hitting several birds with one stone.
A high-stakes gamble with a massive payout!
"Whether that grad student is innocent or not, one thing is certain: Seraphina used her personal connections to steal classified experimental drugs from the lab. If she really orchestrated this..." Raelynn scoffed. "Then both of them just threw their careers down the drain."
For the sake of her future, her resume, and her own glory, Seraphina had weaponized her own flesh and blood.
"She probably didn't account for Chloe filming a documentary," Preston guessed.
Chloe had explained it all.
The filming was designed not to interfere with the researchers.
Hidden cameras were set up remotely before anyone started their shifts to capture the most authentic working environment.
They were so unobtrusive that everyone had let their guard down.
Raelynn glanced at the flawless clinical trial data reports and shrugged. "Now, I just hope she can handle the consequences."
She was bold enough to use a top-tier hospital like Covenant Medical as a stepping stone.
Preston chuckled.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Throughout the afternoon, Preston's phone didn't stop ringing.
Without exception, every call was from Seraphina.
Preston ignored them all.
By evening, Raelynn submitted Covenant's first-phase trial data for review.
Seraphina's gaze turned dark.
She knew Raelynn was unforgiving and possessed a vicious tongue.
"You need to remember that you're also part of my father's family. We're step-sisters. Letting this escalate until it's out of control won't do you any good either."
Raelynn was just a low-level outcast at NexusMind. Coming to her for help was already giving her face.
Listening to her shameless entitlement, Raelynn's lips curled into a smirk.
"I share your last name? The worst that happens if this blows up is that everyone finds out exactly how you and your mother homewrecked your way into my life. What do I have to be afraid of?"
Seraphina's face twisted in rage.
Without thinking, she raised her hand to slap Raelynn across the face.
Raelynn blocked it effortlessly and shoved her away hard.
"Congratulations. Once the investigation concludes and we win the case, you're going to prison, Ms. Vance."
