Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 227

After thinking it over.

Raelynn got out of the car anyway. When she and Sebastian filed for divorce, they used a fast-track VIP channel. Even if he wasn't here, she should still be able to get the certificate.

Approaching the window, she slid all her documents across the counter. "I'm here to finalize my divorce certificate."

The clerk glanced at her. "Why didn't the husband come?"

How the hell should I know where he died?

She thought bitterly to herself.

Despite her internal annoyance, Raelynn kept her expression composed. "Please check the system. It should be processed through the VIP channel."

The clerk typed on the keyboard to check.

A moment later, they replied, "Ma'am, your divorce certificate has already been picked up."

Raelynn froze. "By whom?"

"I'm not sure. The system just shows it was processed and collected through the VIP procedure."

Raelynn's stomach dropped violently.

A sudden, terrifying sense of crisis washed over her.

In order to process the transfer of Lily's residency, the relevant departments required absolute proof of her divorce. Without that certificate, she could never become Lily's legal guardian.

Raelynn rushed out of the lobby in a panic.

She needed to go straight to Croix Holdings and demand answers from Sebastian.

But just as she got into her car, her phone rang.

Seeing the familiar landline number flashing on the screen.

A chill shot down her spine, and sudden clarity hit her like a bucket of ice water.

-

After a long absence.

Raelynn drove back to The Croix Ancestral Estate.

Matilda Croix's residence was quite secluded.

She usually didn't like her two daughters-in-law, Jeanette and Brenda Polk, bothering her.

By the time Raelynn arrived.

Raelynn naturally couldn't confess that she was hiding a child.

She gripped the fabric on her thighs tightly. "Enduring it for seven years doesn't mean I have to endure it for a lifetime. There's nothing left between us, so there's no pity in throwing it away. Grandma, you can't force two people together."

"If that selfish, short-sighted answer is all you have to give me," Matilda stared intensely at her, "then I absolutely will not return that certificate to you."

Raelynn had anticipated this exact scenario on her drive over.

Matilda's opposition to their divorce bordered on pathological tyranny.

She just couldn't understand why.

"What will it take for you to give it to me?" Whatever lingering gratitude Raelynn once held for the Matriarch rapidly dissipated.

Her tone grew remarkably frigid.

"Within three months." Matilda leaned back against her pillows. "Conceive an heir for the Croix family, and I will let you go. Otherwise..."

She slowly patted Raelynn's ice-cold hand, her expression entirely benevolent while her words dripped with ruthless venom. "You two used the VIP channel to sneak around my back and get this divorce. So now, I can use that same VIP procedure to have this divorce annulled."

Raelynn's head snapped up.

Her lips pressed into a tight, hard line.
