Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 23

By the time Raelynn arrived at the Croix family estate, a biting December snowstorm had rolled in.

She stepped into Matilda's private courtyard, bringing a rush of freezing wind with her.

The moment she walked into the main hall, she saw Jeanette and Brenda Polk waiting for her.

Jeanette shot Raelynn a cold glare, clearly still holding a grudge for Raelynn's sheer disrespect the other day.

Telling them to 'drop dead' to their faces.

"Raelynn! Let's see how you talk your way out of this! You just had to be a petty, jealous little witch and smear Sebastian's name online, didn't you? Well, Grandma saw the article and it literally made her sick!" Brenda sneered, her face twisted in disgust.

She dumped the entire blame squarely onto Raelynn's shoulders.

Raelynn couldn't help but furrow her brow.

She looked squarely at Brenda, who was practically foaming at the mouth. "You want to find fault with the victim instead of the instigators who were actually out there making a scene? Do you even have a brain, Aunt Brenda?"

Besides, if they knew they needed to keep it from Grandma, why didn't they scrub the article from the internet? Who exactly was letting this scandal blow up on purpose?

"How dare you speak to me like that?" Brenda slammed her hand on the table and stood up. "Disrespecting your elders? Are you eager to burn in hell?!"

"If you hate looking at me so much, you're welcome to drop dead first."

Raelynn's patience was completely tapped out. She didn't have the energy to listen to Brenda's screeching. Face totally blank, she walked right past her to check on Matilda in the bedroom.

Brenda was so stunned by Raelynn telling her to 'drop dead first' that she literally couldn't process it.

When did the old Raelynn ever dare to speak to a Croix family elder like that?

Wasn't she always just a meek little mouse doing whatever she was told?

Brenda's chest heaved with rage. Losing completely control, she pointed at Raelynn's back and screamed, "Aren't you afraid of karma?! You're a useless, classless tramp! And that Seraphina is nothing but a cheap thrill too! Neither of you are worth a damn!"

Raelynn was sick of it.

She stopped in her tracks and turned around.

Only to abruptly lock eyes with the man standing right in the doorway.

She hadn't even heard Sebastian arrive.

He had his black overcoat draped casually over his arm. Half-hidden in the dim light of the entryway, his eyes were dangerously dark.

Brenda finally noticed Sebastian too, and her voice instantly died in her throat.

Her furious screaming immediately shifted into sheer panic.

She would prepare a holistic tonic later; a few doses and she’d be perfectly fine.

Once the family doctor stepped out.

Matilda Croix reached out and grabbed Raelynn's hand. "Lynnie, I am so sorry for what they've put you through."

Raelynn knew she was talking about the gossip article.

"I'm fine."

It was just disgusting, that was all.

Matilda sighed. "I never imagined things would get this messy. I know how much you're hurting, and this is unacceptable for the Croix family's reputation too. I'm going to make sure you're properly compensated. Houses, cars, cash—whatever you need."

Raelynn had a massive secret to protect.

She didn't want any further ties to the Croix family.

"You don't need to do that. I'm honestly fine."

Matilda looked at her, slowly shifting gears. "You and Sebastian have been married for seven years. You've been together since you were young. Lynnie, you grew up without a mother or father, and the Croix family has always been your real home. Can I ask one favor of you?"

Hearing that comment about not having parents, Raelynn unconsciously rubbed her thumb against her fingers. "Go ahead."
