Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 278

Raelynn shook her head.

"I don't know. He flew all the way out here to celebrate her birthday. I assume they have it all planned out."

After all, Sebastian had successfully secured their divorce certificate.

It made perfect sense that he would be eager to give the woman he truly loved the title she deserved.

Preston searched Raelynn's face for any signs of heartbreak but found none.

He wanted to comfort her, but the words felt hollow.

Seven years.

A marriage ending in such spectacular humiliation. Even if the love had burned out, the scars had to ache.

Raelynn flashed a dismissive smile, patted Preston on the shoulder, and headed back to her room.

She refused to waste a single second imagining what Sebastian and Seraphina were doing tonight.

She sent Lily a few of the photos she had taken earlier.

As she finished washing up and prepared for bed.

Something clattered onto the floor from her coat pocket.

Raelynn picked it up. She scratched her head, unsure of what to do with the ring.

Should she return it to Ian? That didn't feel right. He hadn't bought it himself, and going out of her way to hand it back felt overly dramatic.

While she was contemplating her next move.

The doorbell rang.

Assuming it was Preston, she shoved the ring back into her pocket and opened the door.

Sebastian was standing in the hallway. He was still wearing the same suit from dinner. His handsome face was grim and unreadable.

Raelynn froze. "Shouldn't you be with—"

"We're flying back to Kingsford right now. Your grandfather is in surgery."

His deep voice cut her off.

All the color drained from Raelynn's face.

Sebastian remained incredibly level-headed. He walked right past her into the room, grabbed her coat, tossed her phone charger into her suitcase, and zipped it shut.

He checked his luxury watch, his tone brisk and entirely business-like. "There are no commercial flights out tonight. I arranged a private jet on the way over here. By the time we reach the tarmac, the flight path should be cleared."

Raelynn's mind went completely blank.

Her grandfather was ninety years old. She couldn't bear to think about what would happen if things went wrong.

By the time she snapped out of her daze, they were already in the back of a speeding car.

They raced back to Kingsford through the night, making record time.

When Raelynn arrived at the hospital, Arthur Ortiz was still in the operating room.

"The patient suffered a bad fall resulting in a fractured tibia," the surgeon explained. "His life isn't currently in danger."

Raelynn couldn't let herself be optimistic.

With her medical background.

She knew exactly how dangerous a severe bone fracture could be for a man of his age, often triggering a cascade of fatal complications.

She sat rigidly in the sterile hallway, mindlessly picking at her cuticles.

The physical pain was the only thing grounding her.

Sebastian walked over. He glanced down at her hands, noting the anxious, self-destructive habit she fell into whenever she was terrified. The skin around her nails was practically raw.

He stepped in front of her, unclasped the priceless silver watch from his wrist, bent down, and shoved it directly into her trembling hands. "Keep track of the time. You need to know how long he's been in there."

Satisfied with Arthur's condition.

Raelynn sat down and texted Preston to update him.

After a moment of hesitation.

She opened Ian's chat.

*Mr. Hudson, I had a family emergency and had to fly back to Kingsford. I—*

Before she could finish typing, she noticed Sebastian standing right next to the bed.

She immediately locked her phone and shoved it away.

She had zero intention of letting him pry into her private life.

She had no idea if he had seen the message.

Sebastian glanced down at her. "He's waking up."

Raelynn immediately leaned over the bed.

Arthur was groggy, still heavily under the influence of the anesthesia. He was mumbling incoherently.

Raelynn leaned in close. "Grandpa?"

Arthur's glazed eyes seemed to focus on her face, though he was clearly not fully lucid. "Sunny... Grandpa is getting old. I don't think I have much time left."

Tears instantly welled in Raelynn's eyes.

Arthur weakly squeezed her hand. "Sunny... Our family has kept a secret. I have to tell you..."

"You... you're not your mother's biological child..."

Raelynn froze, the air leaving her lungs.

Behind her, Sebastian's eyes snapped into a dangerous, calculating squint.
