Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 279

Due to the lingering effects of the anesthesia, Arthur's words were fragmented and slurred. After dropping the bombshell, his mind drifted again, his muttering becoming incoherent.

Raelynn sat perfectly still, completely paralyzed.

She wasn't an Ortiz?

She wasn't her mother's biological daughter?

The revelation was earth-shattering. It violently ripped apart twenty-seven years of her identity, erasing everything she believed to be true about her past.

Sebastian had clearly heard it too.

He had just stumbled onto a massive Ortiz family secret.

He stood quietly, his dark eyes locked on Raelynn as a complex, calculating gleam flashed in his gaze.

He watched as her posture grew rigid, her shoulders hunching as if she couldn't physically process the weight of the words. Stepping forward, he firmly grabbed her arm, pulling her upright and guiding her into a chair.

"Wait until he's fully lucid before you interrogate him."

Raelynn's head was spinning.

She desperately wanted answers, yet a primal part of her was terrified to accept that the grandfather who had loved her unconditionally shared no blood with her.

But the pieces were suddenly falling into place.

No wonder Silas Vance had so easily tossed her aside, completely indifferent to whether she lived or died.

How could a father be so utterly ruthless to his own flesh and blood?

Because... she meant absolutely nothing to him.

Sebastian watched as Raelynn's fingers anxiously found his luxury watch again.

She was gripping it so hard the diamonds encrusted in the bezel looked like they were going to pop out.

Unbothered by the destruction of his property, he quietly sat back down.

A few minutes later, Raelynn pulled herself together and looked at him. "I can take it from here. You can go back to whatever you were doing."

Arranging a private jet to get her home was more than generous.

But she stopped mid-sentence.

Because Sebastian had leaned back against the sofa, his eyes closed. He was fast asleep.

She checked the time. It was nearly 2:00 AM.

She decided to just let him rest.

That night.

Raelynn curled up on the neighboring sofa, barely getting a wink of sleep.

Her nightmares were plagued by Arthur's words. The revelation stripped away her sense of security, leaving her feeling like she was drowning, desperate to cling to anything that would keep her afloat.

She hugged a throw pillow tightly to her chest and didn't let go until morning.

The next day.

When she woke up, the doctors and nurses were already doing their morning rounds.

Sebastian was gone.

But his silver watch was still clutched in her hand.

She stared at it in horror.

She really had dug two of the diamonds out of the bezel.

"Ms. Ortiz, your grandfather is stable. You don't need to worry," the attending doctor said gently.

Raelynn rubbed her temples. "Thank you. I'll stay here and look after him."

The doctor smiled. "There's no need to exhaust yourself. The hospital has already assigned a 24-hour private nurse. He'll be in excellent hands."

Raelynn was surprised. "The hospital provides that?"

For free?

Raelynn immediately began negotiations to bring them in.

The stress of Arthur's hospitalization, combined with severe sleep deprivation, triggered her period early. Raelynn popped several painkillers and forced herself to keep working.

The next day, she arrived at the lab.

Preston walked in, looking serious. "How's your grandfather doing?"

Raelynn nodded. "He's stable. I have a 24-hour nurse on him."

Preston exhaled. "Seraphina is back. She's demanding to see Faye. She's completely obsessed with getting access to the Digi-Medica database so she can integrate it into her new project."

Raelynn's body ached. She had absolutely no patience for Seraphina's entitlement.

"You handle it. I don't care what you tell her."

Preston poured her a cup of hot water and left the office.

By the time work ended.

Raelynn felt like her bones were being crushed. Her health had been fine growing up, but she had suffered massive complications while having Lily. The trauma left her with agonizing cramps.

Looking deathly pale, she took the elevator down to the lobby.

It was pouring rain outside.

And standing right by the doors...

Was Seraphina.

Spotting Raelynn, Seraphina let out a cold scoff. "Looks like Mr. Hudson didn't promise you a future after all. Otherwise, why would you still be dragging yourself to this pathetic job? Why don't you do us all a favor, drop the Croix name, and go enjoy your new sugar daddy?"

Raelynn easily deduced that Preston had slammed the door in Seraphina's face.

Now she was waiting here to exact her petty revenge.

"If the job of a sugar baby is so glamorous, why haven't you secured the position yet? Too desperate to get married, but nobody's buying?" Raelynn shot back without missing a beat.

Seraphina's face darkened, but she quickly recovered, looking Raelynn up and down with utter contempt. "Do you even know the truth? Ian Hudson is engaged. You're stringing him along as your backup plan while actively destroying another woman's relationship. You're a disgusting homewrecker, and everyone knows it."
