Despite the agonizing pain radiating through her abdomen, Raelynn actually laughed.
A literal mistress was standing in front of her, pointing a finger and lecturing her on morals and destroying relationships?
"When it comes to destroying relationships, I bow to your unmatched expertise, Ms. Vance. Please, don't project your talents onto me." The cramps were tearing through her, draining the energy from her voice.
But she absolutely refused to let Seraphina have the last word.
Seraphina let out a light, condescending laugh. She wasn't angry in the slightest. "I think you're confused. You and I are fundamentally different. Ian is just playing with you because you're a novelty. What Sebastian and I share is completely different. I suggest you learn your place, Raelynn. In any relationship, the woman who isn't loved is the real third wheel."
Raelynn's lips curled into a glacial smile.
How utterly self-righteous.
The woman who isn't loved is the real third wheel.
And of course, she had to throw in a jab to invalidate Ian's actions toward her.
"Then you should go lobby Congress. Have them officially change the dictionary definition of 'true love' to 'shameless mistress.' It fits your brand perfectly."
Raelynn's tone was deadpan.
Seraphina hadn't expected Raelynn's words to be so vicious.
She opened her mouth to fire back.
But suddenly bit her lip, her expression shifting to one of frail vulnerability. "Sebastian..."
Raelynn looked up.
Oh, of course. The shameless mistress's ultimate protector had arrived.
Sebastian was walking toward them, his eyes locked on Raelynn from a distance.
Raelynn stood her ground.
She knew exactly what was about to happen.
Sebastian would shield Seraphina. He would accuse Raelynn of being out of line and insulting his precious, untouchable true love.
"Did Mr. Moreno refuse to see you?" Sebastian asked, stopping beside Seraphina.
Seraphina shook her head, looking utterly defeated. "He refused to negotiate. I've been standing out here in the freezing wind all afternoon. I honestly don't know why Mr. Moreno holds such a massive grudge against me. Maybe... someone told him to."
Raelynn wanted to laugh out loud.
Seraphina might as well have tattooed 'Raelynn is sabotaging me behind my back' on her forehead.
Seraphina rubbed her arms, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I think I'm catching a cold. Or maybe it's just low blood sugar from not eating all day. Sebastian, could I borrow your coat?"
Sebastian didn't hesitate. He pulled off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
As she pulled the jacket tight, Seraphina shot Raelynn a covert look.
She was beaming.
It was the arrogant, untouchable smirk of a woman who knew she held all the power.
Raelynn's expression remained entirely blank. She turned to walk away.
"The database access," Sebastian's voice stopped her.
Raelynn froze. She hadn't expected Sebastian to corner her directly.
After all, on paper, she held no official executive power at NexusMind.
She turned slowly, her eyes freezing over. "You think I'm the one pulling the strings to block her?"
