Luke felt a subtle, distinctly male hostility radiating from Ian.
He narrowed his eyes. "What's that supposed to mean, Mr. Hudson?"
Ian enunciated every word clearly. "Ms. Ortiz does not appreciate your unsolicited advances. Please respect her boundaries."
Luke's jaw tightened. "Are you just playing the hero, Mr. Hudson, or is there something else going on?"
Ian met his gaze head-on. "I have feelings for Raelynn."
A simple, blunt declaration.
It ruthlessly sliced through the ridiculous tension, dropping a massive bombshell on the room.
The bewildered crowd stared at Ian in absolute shock.
The future head of The Hudson Family, the legendary CEO, actually had feelings for a woman embroiled in so much controversy?
The cocky smile on Luke's face instantly shattered.
Even Raelynn was stunned.
Sebastian's cold eyes slowly narrowed, a faint, almost imperceptible scoff pulling at his lips.
But his gaze was fixed on the most important person in the room: Dr. Hayes.
It took a long moment for the reality of the situation to hit the crowd, prompting everyone to nervously check the matriarch's reaction.
After all, plenty of people knew that Ian was engaged to The Yves Family...
To declare his feelings for someone else right in front of Dr. Hayes was akin to ripping up the harmonious facade between the two powerful families. He was laying all his cards on the table.

Julian flared with sudden anger. He had only intended to force Ian to back off from Raelynn. He never expected Ian to double down and publicly confess his feelings in front of him, his grandmother, and the entire elite circle.
The situation had escalated past the point of no return!
"Mr. Stevens, please escort our guests to the front hall for refreshments," Dr. Hayes ordered, her voice sharp as glass.
Raelynn's scalp prickled.
She was clearing out the irrelevant spectators so the core group could handle this face-to-face.
In the end, she had been dragged right into the center of the mess.
His expression was equally ugly. Looking at Raelynn's remarkably calm face, a surge of irrational anger flared in his chest.
He knew she had previously been interested in Sebastian and had even tried to compete with Seraphina. But he never imagined she was secretly stringing Ian along too. What did that make him? A backup?
Now, she had blatantly offended the Yves family!
"How could you..." he started to snap.
Raelynn shoved his hand away, reminding him coldly, "This is none of your business."
Luke choked on his words, his face darkening even further.
The core group moved into a private adjoining room.
Luke didn't follow.
Dr. Hayes was too preoccupied to care that Seraphina, Leo, and the rest were still trailing behind Sebastian.
Given that they were Julian's friends, they likely already knew the secret anyway.
Ian looked directly at the elderly woman, his tone calm and respectful, devoid of any dictatorial edge. "Dr. Hayes, I need to make it clear that Ms. Ortiz and I are not together. My feelings for her are entirely one-sided. She is completely innocent in this matter."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
